Boris about to close UK schools. Seem like the herd immunity thing isn't working. A text from a UK GP sent to Dr Norman Swan of the ABC, under the promise of anonymity, suggests that their hospital system is heading towards breakdown, with staff succumbing in huge numbers. They do not have the proper protective equipment, apparently using only masks and surgical gloves.

In fairness to Boris, he has received and followed the advice from their Chief Medical Officer, Sir Someone Or Other, who it would seem, perfectly fits the position of a buffoon. Well done Sir.
I'm starting to get a bit worried about our own health system. I work in education and I just went to a meeting where they were talking about using schools as hospitals...

Government is pushing for schools to stay open until Term 1 holidays, then very likely to stay closed after that for "a period of time". Latest predictions are that this virus will peak in Australia in late May/June.

Potential worst case scenario, re schools as emergency hospitals.

They’re putting systems in place that hopefully won’t have to be used.

It’s a good thing.

“In Norway, the schools are closed but there is a skeleton teaching staff left in the schools for health workers, the kids of health workers so they can still go to work.”

I like this idea, or even phased shut downs with only kids of essential workers permitted on campuses, while online learning is used for the rest.

It's not a serious issue unless you are in the vulnerable category.

If you are, then you should be in lockdown.

I myself have undertaken a form of measured lock down, but I do have the good fortune of understanding microbial sterilization due to training I have done.

I go out maybe once a day as required, gather up whatever, then decontaminate myself and items as soon as I get back to my residence.

- Hand sanitiser as I leave the car with items
- Non perishables left in sunlight for a couple of hours (tins & packages)
- Frozen items straight in to the freezer
- Clothes straight in the wash with eucalyptus wash additive, then hang them outside (UV).
- Wash your hands properly with soap and warm water.
- Put on fresh outer clothing for the house and yard

Take away meals.

There's no reason to go without these provided you utilise some simple practices.

You can even get hot food delivered to your house, just have a laid out piece of newspaper/bag ready on your kitchen bench to place the packaging, transfer food from the packaging in to clean bowls/plates, then nuke it in the microwave for 60 seconds. This will destroy any microbes that may have contaminated your food from the food handling practices at the restaurant. Whilst that's heating, bundle up your newspaper/bag with the packaging and place it in your rubbish bin and give that a short burst of Glen 20. Then go wash your hands thoroughly with warm water & soap, and serve up dinner.

This is not laborious or time consuming.

Schools would be a last option. Hospitals would cease all non- elective surgery which take up alot of beds. Only emergency surgery would occur.

Not many people understand that though = empty shelves

We all have to overcome idiots in life mate, and the few dozen folks that assemble here at least know it now if they cannot get the measured doses.

However, I will stress, weigh out a tablet and make sure your broken piece is as close in measured portion as the dosage of panadaol you would allocate to the child pertaining to their age.

PANADOL: Oral administration

1 month to 1 year: 100mg
3-7 years: 120mg
7+ years: 250mg
Adult dose: 500mg (1 x tablet)

Fully dissolve the portion in a small amount of sweetened liquid and give to the child, and check up on the daily dosages.

If in doubt, err on the smaller dosage side.

Gotta respect the grift

0.73% of tested cases. A slight rise.
Still 0.00002% of Australia's Population with 0.009% of those infected dying.
0.0000002% of Australia's population have died from the Corona Virus.

By the way, if anyone is interested in purchasing that, then P.M. me and I will ship you a litre for $50.

Out of interest, given your attacks on supermarkets for price gouging yesterday, what does this normally sell for a litre?

Interesting little tidbit re the ASX.

From end July 2008 to end October 2008 the ASX dropped 10.4%, 12.8% and 6.85% each month. By the time things started levelling out in Feb 2009 and the initial market effects of the GFC had played out, the market had lost 35% of its value.

In Feb this year the market lost 9.5% of its value. So far in March it has lost a further 23%. And we are about to go into a lockdown.
Comparatively the Dow Jones has lost roughly 25% of its value in the last 6 weeks or so. During the GFC it took 7 months from the start to bottom out, losing roughly 40% of value. That index seems hyper inflated though, with twice the value in it before this down turn as opposed to prior to the GFC. I wonder what they will call the movie about the financial implications of this one? The Bigger Short?

Do you know how quickly we could get to roughly 10% of the population infected without effective controls?

It appears you don't understand the concept of exponential growth. Left unchecked the best evidence tells us that Covid 19 infections double every 6 days. Given we are at circa 700 today, here is what that looks like:

How do those increases compare to Italy... Do you know. I heard they were going at close to 33%.

If that difference is real it will be important.
