Nah.
But I’m not informed enough to comment. I was speaking purely on the urban planning, which as you say is likely irrelevant.

Suburban Italians DON'T interact in closer proximity to each other than suburban Australians?!

Seriously?

Population density will be one of the defining factors with this virus. The greater the density, the greater the spread of the virus and the harder it will be to control/contain. Especially if you live in a free and democratic country.

I have no problems with giving the Federal and State Government's credit for the measure they have taken to date, even if I think some of these measures are disproportionate to what is actually happening and contributing to the unnecessary panic we are seeing around the country.

Explain Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea then? Some of the highest population density countries with the best control of the virus. You don't even have correlation, let alone causation for the density argument.

Explain Singapore then?

Greater experience with outbreaks and a first class health care system?

(Not having a go, just thought they were reasons)

Rome has slightly less people than Sydney, but the density is 2236 people per square kilometre compared to 423. European and Asian cities are compact, while Australia cities are spread out, less dense. If Sydney in it's current size had the same density as Rome it would have a population of more than 27 million.
Yup, totally get that. That is a relevant figure. Even in apartmented parts of our cities the setup is different from Europe, partly because of the planning rules supporting our privacy obsession.

They are a highly regulated society, and that is a significant advantage in this instance.

Fair enough, but your answer tells me population density is a pretty lower order issue. I would hypothesise this is because pretty much every medium-size town, let alone city, has enough density for community transmission to take hold.

My point is that there are countries and cites with very high density that have been able to control the spread of the virus. Singapore as one example. There are also areas like Washington State which would have similar density to Australian cities where the outbreak got out of control.

well I guess the evening passeggiata wouldn’t help things.

This is an end of days, apocalyptic, nightmare scenario to you, isn't it? You're in a genuine panic?

You're wasting your time with this fool.

No Snake, we are the fools.

As 7577969919 - unsure on the 19 but ok - says there are differences between countries and cities and densities.

But we are gonna be like Italy coz...

Just thought you were looking for reasons why the Singapore system seems to be more effective compared to some other places with similar density

All good :thumbsu:

Good. I hope a zombie apocalypse happens.

All you people bagging 'The Walking Dead' - "it's boring after season 2 blah blah blah"

Some of us are still watching and taking notes.

GG, are you stockpiling weapons?

Apologies for my last post, couldn't help myself, had to release the tension/boredom.

I stated earlier that population density will be one of the defining factor with the virus, not THE defining factors. Other factors will come into play such as location, climate, education, forms of Government, government responses, public health care and resources. And all may or may nor play a part in how these cities/countries have controlled the spread of the virus.

I enjoyed the Last Ship myself. It's probably more apt here as well as it was about a virus outbreak that killed 90% of the worlds population.

No. I spent a year in a small Japanese village where I was trained by a skilled Samurai known as 'Katsumoto'

We aren't in the US so weapons and bullets will be hard to come by. Plus they make noise and attract other zombies/people. I will only go out at night with my Katana and night vision goggles. The zombies won't be able to see and I'll be able to kill in silence.

It's a moron.

Working from home: day 3.

Listened to Kane Cornes’ entire radio show.

Close to breaking point.

Day 4... using excrement to write on the walls?

or day 4, Kane's constant excrement is causing you to write on the walls?

Not at all. I am very calm but realise the potential seriousness of the issue. I think government response should rightly be based on the potential seriousness of the issue for Australia, not what has happened so far.

I am also of the opinion that there is a cohort of people who are underplaying the seriousness of the issue by citing the relative few number of cases thus far and clinging on to differnces between us and Italy and the US as justifications for claims that it wouldn't be as serious here as it is in those countries.

If you think our Governments have overreacted which specific measures do you beieve go to far?
