I honestly do not know what you are talking about.

If you mean that the basic tenets of democracy have been abandoned, that is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact.

The basic tenets of democracy have always been sketchy here, especially since the GWoT.

Most people are doing this willingly because they have seen this build up over months weeks.

I have some sympathy with your arguments but the the reality is right now people are on board with this to a point. We all have people we know and love who are vulnerable, some of us may be ourselves.

This won't go on forever. There is a time when we will need to reassert the basic principles of our democratic societies.

Frankly I'm more concerned about people like Dutton using this to make huge over reaches in the name of protecting our bog roll than the shutting down of society. We need s bill of rights at this point. While we aren't working for money maybe we should work on that?

Already losing business which will lead to sackings, scalings back, and closures.

I fell for WMDs and argued with people at the time who were skeptical. I bought into the fear and the 'we must act now' narrative.

I'm not making that mistake again. I learned my lesson.

I don't think I have ever called for government lockdowns, rather that I support what they are doing or have done so far.

What I am about, is putting the lives of every human being ahead of any business enterprise. Once you start devaluing the sanctity of human life, in favour of any business enterprise, you are actually on the real road to totalitarianism. Businesses can be rebuilt or restructured, but human life, once lost is gone forever.

And if you stop and have a look, Morrison is actually introducing measures to try to protect businesses. Helping business is at the very core of their stimulus packages. (And I can't believe that I am sitting here defending Morrison and his Government!!!)

And I'll tell you something else. I know what is is like to experience economic hardship. Back in 1976, the beef and dairy industries were receiving the worst returns ever in history, while in the midst of a drought. Our family battled through that and came out the other side. Back then, because of the conditions, the Victorian Government initially paid farmers $5 a head, to have their cattle transported to various locations, where pits were bulldozed, the cattle unloaded and then shot. They later upped it to $10 a head. An Uncle of mine, just prior to that, sent 25 head of cattle to the Camperdown sale yards and ended up getting a bill for having them transported and "sold". Shitful stuff but true.

There is no doubt there will be some real economic pain for many people, but I for one put the sanctity of human life above that.

Also mouncey2franklin there are democtatic principles that still stand. We haven't cancelled elections. The separation of powers hadn't been undermined any more than the national security state has already done. Innocent till proven guilty, the rule of law and transperancy haven't been damaged by this crisis the way they have by stopping the boats and keeping us "safe".

You can’t know that without being there. It looks ridiculous that the journalist is dressed like an astronaut while the doctors and nurses are in scrubs and masks, but they’ve probably been exposed to the virus since the start.


With the death rates out of Italy I don’t think the media need to spruce this up for attention

They basically are now in a position where doctors make decisions on who lives and who dies.

Nothing to do with that. Open roof means its an outdoor venue so the larger number of people allowed inside applies. If they close the roof it is an indoor venue and lower number applies.
