We have the ability as an Isolated island to eliminate, get back to work and just keep the virus out via 14 day quarantining.

wait it out till theres a vaccine.

9 of our top 10 exports dont require travel....

We can only do that if we are sure that have in fact eliminated it.
There is a big difference between elimination and the very low numbers that we have now.

The next month will be interesting with more widespread testing.

For sure.

thats why isolating is so important - and why they should have closed the schools a lot earlier than they did brcause kids are the ultimate asymptomatic incubators

9 out of our top 10 exports don't require travel? I couldn't find 1 in the top 10 that doesn't require travel

what is your rationale?

The CMO said today that you won't be seeing music festivals and the like for the foreseeable future.

Doesn't sound like herd immunity strategy to me.

have you sold your shares yet?

you're over 100% up on VRL, 90% up on MYR and 75% up on QAN..........in less than a month

far out you are good at spotting opportunities when everyone else was shitting their pants. How do you stay so calm?

Nah I'm saving my money for that ridgy didge multi-million farm scheme you were spruiking.
When does that kick off? Announcement was imminent. It's been like 6 months or more.
What's the hold up?

We could be using the profits to buy cocktails at Byron whilst trading Myer shares making hundreds of thousands of dollars of profits on $100k of 9 cent shares in 10 days.
All legit.

Crude oil
wheat
Beef
Aluminium ore
Gold
Personal travel

Natural gas
Educational travel
Coal
Iron ore

personal travel - aka tourism

obviously you cant have international tourism with a 14 day quarantine

the rest of those industries can work around having no international travel

a month before any sort of travel ban happened in australia the iron ore carriers out of gero had been isolated completely - they werent allowed to do crew changes here - the pilot went out to the incoming and outgoing ships in hazmat suit - the crews were no longer allowed ashore.

educational travel would be under the proviso that the first 14 days you would have to quarantine - that might put some off - id suggest the fact that students can study within a secure virus free country could be an attraction

the rest of those industries can be isolated the same way iron ore exports are - business can be conducted via video conferencing.

You can scratch "Crude oil" and Natural Gas off that list for starters.
Almost all the offshore production fields have their Geologists and Drilling Supervisors coming in from offshore on rotation. Rig crews also. SOME live in oz. We might export a bit of condensate but no oil.
All the hard rock mines eg Gold Iron etc also rely upon machinery and parts imported, and they come with experts flown in. You will need to suddenly be able to build and maintain a 797 mining truck if you think mining in this country is somehow insulated from overseas travel.

Stick to "personal travel"

I think many overlook how much skilled labour is required for so called "simple businesses".

Lol having worked long term in mining and driven haulpacs for barrick Gold thats inaccurate.

Westrac cat have all the capacity to assemble haulpacs the only time they need assistance from overseas is when a new model comes out. They have guys from cat come out and instruct - but they are here for 6 months so a 14 day stay in quarantine would just be a part of business.

Same with offshore labour - they can be housed here if they want to keep their jobs - stay here for the duration - pretty sure anyone who still has a job in oil and gas at the moment isnt giving it up to join a dole queue back home.

Is that it ? You think one company that is as distributor and cat dealer in Aust means there doesnt need to be any overseas travel to mines and the oil/gas fields ?
 Westrac are the equivalent of a volkswagon dealership for cars. They don't make anything. They have troubles just keeping mechanics on staff and flogging tyres.

I dont think u understand. So why attempt to flum your way thru this when you don't need to ?
Just for a start, the platforms and fields are operated by companies from all over the globe. The people come in from all over the globe. Many of the platforms themselves are owned by offshore companies. Exploration wells use an entire rig leased from drilling companies that own the rigs. They have their own workers and mix it with local help wherever they are drilling, according to local requirements for the acreage.
The operator though will always use their own geo's and drilling supervisrs who are at a level beyond what we produce in this country. They get their experience sitting wells everywhere and extremely good coin coz its cheaper to have the best than risk 2nd best. A minor mistake costs 10Mill. These companies rarely even hire in this country anymore due to poor educational backgrounds. We sold out our respected geology and engineering degrees in favour of teaching them all manner of irrelevant social and cultural junk many moons ago. Lots live in Singapore and the States. They'll come out here for a few weeks and then perhaps head to the Mid East for a few weeks, then her Gulf perhaps.
Then of course u have the chem engineers petrophysics guys and umpteen service companies with guys living offshore. Then of course the divers are often from offshore on rotation, etc etc etc.

You cannot effectively imprison them in your country simply because you think it'd be a good comeback on a website. Its actually real life. They arent about to lose their jobs due to just another oil price shock, and they often work for the company that owns it all.

I know you might LIKE it to be different, and would be stoked if u can somehow type something that changes everything, but its an extraordinarily complex and highly specialised field.

You dont gave to “imprison them in the country”

for one - thats a lovely emotive bit of prose there btw.

You give them the option - if they wish to keep working in australia of staying here and working

kinda like my mate - whos an australian geo - works in america

theres people working overseas in countries all over the world that arent “imprisoned”

its just a condition of work that you can accept - or not accept. If you dont accept it you either wont be hired or have to do 14 days quarantined when you return.

and as for westrak cat not making anything

whoopie doo - they can assemble a haulpac - ffs howdo you think haulpacs come to australia - assembled?

uh uh - they are assembled on site by local fitters

Like that.....

That makes no sense whatsoever :drunk:

Just forget it champ. The industry doesn't revolve around some mechanics and truck drivers. That's the local workforce. They don't need to fly in from offshore do they
Just leave it.

Youre talking about an industry i worked a good section of my life in and now work supplying communication solutions to.

so you can blah wank all you like - but strangely the folk who assembled our haulpacs at barrick were australians as were the geos and engineers that designed and supervise the mines we have created.

You shot yourself in the foot straight up bullshitting that they needed overseas help to assemble.

Getting back to the overall picture - im not talking about spending the rest of eternity in some self imposed country wide exile

im talking about getting the country rolling in isolation till we have a vaccine.

given the severity of the virus id suggest thats exactly the discussions that are going around now - how do we make this work - not why we cant make this work. How we can isolate our country from this virus, get the external help we need without letting the virus in.

Is the there ANY reason they just can't cultivate it, chop it up, then inject the stuff in order to facilitate typical CD4+/B cell responses?

Am I missing something about this particular virus?

We're f’ed if this thing has HIV level sophistication.

The logic works if a vaccine becomes available and is effective and is widely distributed in a timeframe where cost doesn’t exceed the benefit

This is simple decision making

That said the shut down has bought time to build inventories, educate the masses and set up processes

wow even the CDC are now comparing the dreaded corona virus with the seasonal flu ....

*wrong mortality rate as in % of community who will die

* outrageously wrong models stating 150,000 will die in Australia

growing debate over whether the lockdown actually achieved much when compared to Sweden, Japan and a few other countries

*lied to about how this would effect children when it was quite clearly known it had less effect that the flu

* in general lied to about how this will effect anyone under the age of 70 odd or in any sort of general health
