Here's the modelling that underpinned #shutdownNOW and the reality. Now we have up to $320bn in extra debt, and over a million unemployed. "Proportionate" response?

And of course Sweden, the old Apocalypse in Sweden if they didn't lock down'

The media has really done a snow job on Australia, and the sheeple have sucked it in

The economic cost of isolation is massive but I also believe there is a hidden human cost - mental illness and suicide. The suicide rate is already massive, much bigger than the COVID-19 death rate. In months or years to come we will eventually see data on how isolation affected the suicide rate. It may well be that additional lives lost is greater than the lives saved. Unfortunately we won't know until it's too late

Offset by less road deaths, less flu deaths etc

what!!!!!

you need a source to tell you that after 1,600,000 plus extra people are unemployed, 800,000 businesses on jobkeeper (which is basically the same as the dole) that depression, divorce, bankruptcy, crime, drug use, domestic violence and suicide etc will increase .

What planet you living on!!

Suicide data 2018 – ABS (released 2019)
  • In 2018, preliminary data showed a total of 3,046 deaths by suicide (age-specific suicide rate 12.2 per 100,000).
  • In comparison, a total of 2017 there was a recorded 3,128 deaths (age-specific suicide rate of 12.7 per 100,000).
  • In 2018, preliminary data showed an average of 8.3 deaths by suicide in Australia each day (Mindframe, 2019).
  • Of all causes of death, 1.9% was attributed to suicide in 2018.

Here you go. Not that you care given how blase you are to suicides. Be prepared for it to swell this year.

95 people have died from COVID-19 A vast majority of those that died were elderly citizens with a heavily compromised immune system and that has been played ad nauseam. Meanwhile we have yet to hear a news item of people that have commuted suicide, not in the media zeitgeist ya see.

What nothing.

he specifically stated as a fact this:

“ The suicide rate is already massive, much bigger than the COVID-19 death rate”

He didnt say i think or i believe - he stated it as fact.

im entitled to ask for a source - clearly hes intimating that hes read that stat somewhere - when you claim something like that, you had best have a source to back you up.

You intimated that the suicide rate is much higher due to covid - wheres your source for that?

i know a lot of people commit suicide - im an ex soldier whos part of a support network for suicidal ex soldiers so im about as aware as i can be on suicide. Its a bane 24/7/365

we havnt had any calls for help since this started - whether that means people are distracted by this or they are just not asking for help and are going ahead with it im not sure of.

id wait till the data is out - clearly there will be many people distressed by this - on the other hand there maybe a lot of people on newstart that find getting double the dole is like manna from heaven and has improved their lives.

too many variables.

1)As an ex soldier do you find that members of the armed forces are more mentally sturdy and it takes a lot more to rattle them than us non-soldiers?

2) I think it is probably to do with the fear of their calls not being "important" enough in these times and they err on not calling rather than calling.

3) You could say that money has alleviated their problems. However, for others, you could pay them a million dollars and they still would be miserable and need socialising. Money for some is not enough.

4) Well its a wait and see.

Just to reiterate: be prepared for a spike in suicide rates this year. Especially with the heightened cases of depression and anxiety.

1) day to day yeah - faced with something to do and a clear goal yeah. Facing up to themselves.. notsomuch

2) could well be mate

3) for sure - but when money is a large part of your life being hard its gotta help

4) for sure

I'm one of them. For the first time in 3 years I've been able to pay the rent, the power AND get my licence renewed without having to worry about existing on nothing except what's already in the cupboards.

your denial is like circle work - around and around

the death rates were based on not locking down, they didn't and other countries did not as well, the disease is like any respiratory disease it comes and goes, it reaches its peak which it has done in Sweden ( stockholm) about 2 weeks ago, so where is the huge death rate in Sweden - the infection has peaked?

Its just a seasonal virus, its not the bubonic plague, it has mortality rates similar to the flu and not every flu has the same rate, it has hospital admittance rates similar to the flu, it actually has lower death and hospital rates for young people.

why the fear ?, why do you keep believing the propaganda, are you a public servant ?

quite triggered aren't you, get back to me when Sweden has about 80,000 deaths because using the model we locked down on that's what they should have.

Ray Hadley asked Scomo about maybe using the Swedish model and he replied if we use that we will have ten of thousands of deaths.

Well, where are Sweden's tens of thousands of deaths.

Please send when you have photos of the mass graves in Sweden preferably shots from the air.

thanks

Oh Les, it's like you never did Maths at school, or went to school. Classic RWNJ. Gets shown proof, asks for proof that proves he's right not you. Doesn't provide proof himself.

Perhaps you should be asking Scomo this question. Or get your mate Ray Hadley to ask for you.

1) sweden has less that half our population
2) theres a long way to go for this virus.
3) the largest demographic in sweden is people living in a single person dwelling. Its an unusual statistic and part of the reason sweden went the way they did.
4) The second reason is that sweden has kickarse intenet and a large percentage of swedes can work at home with no congestion issues - another reason they have chosen their path.

swedish people are already largely isolating by their method of living.

despite that they have by far the worst metrics of all the scandinavian countries who also live in a similar manner.
