You could be right; we are in unknown territory now. Hopefully it doesn't all end up in court cases etc and the season can re-commence.
I reckon it may end up in court cases anyway. Just between everyone affected and the Government/Chief Health officers.

I see the AFL are looking to pack the calendar early in the season to get ahead of the curve to allow for a period where games are suspended

Our clean bill of health could be godsend early. You wouldn't want to have to play a couple of games a week with a half fit list. Norph and methendon come to mind as teams that could really struggle

Maybe it's good time to move to a 17 round season when we just play everybody once. Okay there will be five less rounds, but by starting the season in five weeks time we will know a hell of a lot more about CV than we do now. Fill in the time before then with more practice games. Who cares about them being played with no spectators ? Just a thought.

how typical for the Saints , probably our best preseason injury wise for years and now we cop this virus . Do feel for the old players in the AFL who were going to play one last year , and the young under18 kids who were going to put their hand up for drafting , thats if the footy is cancelled.
The experts say it could take a year to get a vaccine but then with the millions of people wanting it , it will take ages to get it to everyone , we might lose two years of footy and other sports and thats if only they can come up with a vaccine .
The fact that it doesn’t really kill anyone below the age of 60 means that if everyone eventually got it they could prioritize the oldies with any vaccine available. After all isn’t that who were all trying to look after in all of this .

Collins dictionary definition of Irony...

”St.Kilda FC cancelling a game in China, only to have it possibly cancelled back home at a time when it would be safer to play it in China.”

😳

Does seem like its panning out that way.

Agree
Not to mention our ability to alternate guys to keep them fresh.

Eg: 1 game we play geary, next game 5 days later we instead play paton.
Then swap back 5 days later.

Same with battle/carlisle at CHB, brown/howard, ryder/abbott, long/any number of decent halfbacks.

Bytel might get an earlier than usual chance to relieve dunstan/steele

You'd assume shortened games in that scenario, so the opportunity to run the opponent ragged in a shorter format, then sub in players to better match up with the next opponent, etc.

Team that stays healthiest would likely have a strong advantage in that sort of attrition war, and having a good stock of interchangeable B-graders could play nicely if teams found their ageing stars struggling to stay healthy or have impacts with the changed conditions.

This is how these viruses start. Animal viruses mixing with other animal viruses then pass onto humans. Been proven time and time again.

At these Chinese wet markets, they literally have chickens packed in cages shitting and drooling on other animals below them that are packed in cages also as an example.

The amount of damage this particular wet market in China has done to the world is staggering already.

There is currently 200 cases in a country of 25 million people. If they are serious about limiting large crowd contact its really pretty reasonable that exposure will be very limited. Particularly to a group of people with much more restricted dealings with the general public in the first place
It will only take one player to catch it and it will cancel the round.

Its amazing the difference in cultures.
My wife is far from a germ Nazi but her one gripe is people behind the counter of a food shop wearing those rubber/plastic food preparation gloves then handing the change back to her in those gloves and then not putting a new pair on .
she always complains saying something like " you do realize its pointless wearing gloves for hygiene if your constantly picking up dirty money with them and then handling food again".
Its just a hunch but I don't think my Mrs would be too keen on a trip to that market.

I blame the footy gods. They are serious Old Testament smoting and smiting type gods. Get Jake Carlisle on a fortune.....they put him out or the year, Hannerbury ....plays 3 games a year on $900000 PA, then finally get Hill and they send the world into some apocalyptic pandemic. Mean mother****ers, we even sacrificed a GOAT for them.
