Seems untenable to just leave them if they refuse to leave which they have.

I watched the police commissioner and he was making all the right noises about protecting the public but the end game here is they’ve essentially called his bluff. I have no idea how many people are on each ship but it’s going to be a nightmare logistically for NSW.

I think behind the scenes they’ll be trying to figure out how to quarantine and repatriate the healthy and treat the sick without overwhelming their hospitals. Nobody else is going to volunteer to share the load, WA completely melted over
the ruby princess and who can blame them, passengers from that ship have spread the virus all over the country.

I can’t help but think if a ship is in your waters when the gun goes off it’s your problem. I’m a short stroll from where Victoria’s first quarantine was established at point Ormond.

The sooner we can get them of ships and segregate them, the less serious cases of the virus will be in the world.
Shit i'd take a couple not showing symptoms at my place for 3 weeks, i have nothing planned. I won't even charge as much as an Ibis.

EDIT:
Wait ....i've just thought about it some more, and done a backflip.
We should leave them moored in a suitable location and make sure they have good supplies.
We should evacuate anyone in a high risk category ( age /medical conditions ) ,we should ensure there are competent medical people on board.
Most of the ships crew would not be high risk.
They should be left on board and monitored. The could even be used to study the spreading of the virus.

Any cases that become acute enough to require hospitalisation to be airlifted.

I can only imagine the pressure on the ships' captains, every where 2 weeks way, no one wanting them and a ship full of people, disease, panic and anger.
We stopped 175 ships full of our own people in 1919

I hope we don't do that again. There's thousands of aussies stuck overseas, you'd think countries could come to reciprocal arrangements because the longer they stay out there the more will die.

Mind you this problem is being run by Border Force, Peter Dutton has been pretty quiet so far, time for him to stand up and show the country he's not Mr Potatoe Head in jack boots, goose stepping around Parliament House.

Does any one understand why the Gov. is ordering cruise ships out of Australian waters?

Perth didn't want them because their hospital system is set up to save locals. No one wants 40+ sick people landing in hospital and even the non sick ones could be transmitting it around the community because they have shown symptoms. They don't have enough kits to do everyone coming in either. It's basically bringing in someone else's sick so no one wants them. It's pretty cruel though.

We're probably better off than Guam who are already under severe pressure and now have 5,000 crew and sailors sitting on a warship needed to be evacuated.

Didn't they get all but 10 off, popped the foreign nationals on planes (thank God for Aus Post)

Theres still 10 holiday makers on the boat very ill, with something that didn't come off first time around. W.A. Premier resorting to press conferences to try and shame Border Force into action.

These aren't oldies, they are the Ships crews.

What is the point of taking them off a floating Hotel and putting them into a land based Hotel.

No passengers so let them have a room each, even the really good rooms.
Treat them on board.
Evacuate only very serious cases.

It worked in Japan, and that was a full load of passengers.

I have been doing a couple of daily walks along the bike track for exercises. Walking alone of course. I notice a lot more people today exercising, I think people are getting restless staying inside. My mental health Will go off a cliff if I just stayed inside 24/7.

My fear is if the police start hassling people they see walking, asking how far away they have walked from their home etc. I did do a fairly long walk before.

It could eventually happen but I think we need to realise that mental health could be worse than the Coronavirus.

I can easily do 10-15km walks.

Someone might want to tell the Premier and Chief Health Officer that.

We had a Royal Commission last year on the subject:
The first little bit on the Forward:
Victoria’s mental health system has, however, failed to aid those who are most in need of high-quality treatment, care and support. The following experience resonates with us:
An often-repeated explanation is that the system has ‘cracks’ and that people will fall through them. I don’t know if [we were] just unlucky to continually step on those cracks, or if the cracks are so wide that you cannot avoid them.
Once admired as the most progressive in our nation, the state’s mental health system has catastrophically failed to live up to expectations. Past ambitions have not been realised or upheld, and the system is woefully unprepared for current and future mental health challenges. For too long mental health has been relegated to the shadows within the broader health system. Historical underinvestment and increasing demand mean that services can no longer respond adequately to people living with mental illness, their families and carers. People do not receive the support they need when they need it. Many are left to exist on the margins; many feel unbearably alone and defeated when the right services are not available to them; and some take their own lives.

There has been some progress, but stigma, discrimination and prejudice remain pervasive influences on the lives of people living with mental illness. As a community, we have struggled to understand mental illness and the varying ways people experience it. Some might say we have lacked the empathy to support people who are struggling. In part, this would explain why good mental health has remained so low on the agenda for public investment and why complacency and meagre expectations have stifled reform. This Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System was established because there is now widespread acknowledgement that our mental health services have reached crisis point. The Commission has received extensive feedback about the magnitude of existing problems.

If we reached a crisis point well before there was such a thing as a COVID-19 How well do we seriously think it's going to handle it now?

Michael Osterholm on Joe Rogan podcast stated that quarantining people on cruise ships is human torture due to recalculated air flowing through each cabin/room.

He stated the more efficient way is to take the people off the ships and quarantine them on land.

I keep hearing from many on the news from different industries that it mightn’t take long for some things to get up and running. Just then someone from the airlines expects some things to be up and running by May. Maybe I’m missing something but how could things possibly change that quickly. Anyone care to explain because I’m lost.

I bought this bad boy 2nd hand last week. Been doing ten 3 minute rounds with a 1 minute break in between. Bloody exhausted by the end.

I might come out of isolation in better nick than I went in! 🤪

Great set up! Do you box or is this just for fitness?

I’m hoping to come out fitter than I went in between gardening and got this set up:

Also have a rowing machine so between the 2 of them I’m trying to do something every day.

Nah never boxed mate. Purely for fitness. I'd be too scared to box against anything that might hit back! Boxing is in my blood though- both father and grandfather were bare knuckle boxers in the depression and post war years

I sparred with an amateur boxer when I was younger, I felt like I'd been run over the next day. He was little but quick, I don't think I connected a single punch. He was using my head like a speed ball though. I've never been close to a ring since.

I enjoy the training, in my late 30s so maybe I am going through some kind of midlife crisis but really enjoy sparring.

I sparred with my coach a few months ago who is about 10 years younger and 15kg
lighter than me (and an actual amateur boxer).

He caught me with a body shot. Either cracked or bruised a rib and I couldn’t train for about 8 weeks 😂 (or pick up the baby or play with my daughter properly, or sleep on my side - the wife was really unimpressed).

I just stick to letting him train me now and prefer sparring against guys who are worse than me.

You have a right to be confused.

Until there is a vaccine, there is no cure. No cure means social distancing, that means no flights.

There is no other way forward.

A bit like Tyson Fury then.

You could be The Gypsy Keg.

I suspect they're trying to achieve herd immunity, everything we're doing is to slow the spread of the virus to not flood the health system and limiting the death toll.

The more infections they can get at a rate they can control the qicker we get through with the least amount of damage

Like putting the garden hose in the sink( no plug), adjust the pressure so the sink doesn't overflow but try and get as much water through. We limit damage to the economy while limiting the death rate.

Other wise we shut down until a magic bullet in the form of a cure appears or the virus mutates to something less toxic (1919).

Until the government release their modelling, their medical advice, their fiscal advice and diplomatic cables we're all guessing.

Have had similar experience, agree the sparring is great - nothing clearer at that time.

Experienced the body shot that just stopped me 6 months ago.....worst thing is my brother is the trainer and I could not let on.. ..........gawn absolutely gaaaaaawn

As someone who gets anxiety and stress from time to time the training and sparring has helped massively with it.

Not many situations at work that are more stressful or intense than someone trying to punch you in the face.
