That's all we'll be hearing from Brad Symes.

Channel 10 just reported that Symes is suspected of having whooping cough and has been banished from going near his teammates. So he didn't go to Murray Bridge so I won't be able to see him tonight :thumbsd::(.

My mum whooping cough last year - she was coughing for over 3 months, with a horrible cough that sounded like she was going to stop breathing.

Here's hoping he makes a faster recovery!

I got whopping cough in August, they say you cough for 100 days, but I still haven't completely gotten rid of it.

Unusual for someine his age, obviously not vaccinated as a kid, someone my age, our vaccinations are now wearing off and we all need boosters. There was over 300 cases of it in my suburb and the immediate surrounds.

edit: you aren't contagious for 100 days.

He'll be sweet to train again in a week, health permitted.
Will he be able to train if he is coughing that much? I don't know much about the cough other then it is meant to take 100days to recover but If it is like other coughs the more exercise he does the more coughing he will be doing

if its anything like mine, i wasn't even allowed to drive for 3 weeks due to coughing fits that made me turn blue just sort of spontaneously occurring. scary stuff. I imagine running while gagging for breath will be tough. The bloody antibiotics are horrid too.

On the news they said no other players were showing any signs of it. It's contagious until you've been on the antibiotics for 5 days so they would've put him on antibiotics straight away, even before the test results came back, (well that's what happened with my mum anyway). But the cough will take it out of him...it's a horrible cough

WHY SYMES??:mad: Arghh! I swear to God, I jinx my favourite players! Ever since I stopped liking Reilly he hasn't been injured, but when I liked him...injury after injury!

I actually saw Brad Symes and his girlfriend today in the shopping centre. He had his knee strapped but he didnt look like he was crook at all to me. I spoke to him for a couple minutes and he definately didnt look like he had any thing wrong with him at all.

Immunisation is not compulsory - or at least, it certainly wasn't back then. Some parents for reasons known only to them (perhaps cultural/religious) do not immunise their kids. Some are just apathetic, ie. think the disease is no longer an issue so choose not to immunise. It is the reason why we see a recurrence of diseases that were considered to be eradicated.

From Google:

The symptoms of whooping cough commonly develop about 7 to 10 days after exposure to the bacteria, but can occur any time from a few days to a few weeks. Whooping cough symptoms can be divided into 3 stages. The cough commonly persists for up to 3 months.

The main concern, I guess, is that he will have already exposed the whole squad to the disease. Let's hope the rest of them are already immunised!

Hope you held your breath! ;)

Althogh we in our mid 30's for example were vaccinated, you need to get a booster to keep up your immuniasioant.

When my second child was born the whole family were advised to get a booster. The hard thing was finding a chemist that stocked one.

Very glad I got one as three people in my team went down with it. Very nasty for little babies, and my youngest is only 5 months old.

Enjoy your whooping cough :(

I know a girl who had it and cracked a rib from coughing so hard.
