i d't understand why you're upset with Leigh over that comment. Isn't that the point that you've been making whith this whole thread?

I think Leigh (...and Tim) were referring to the major corporate sponsors who travelled with the team on the weekend from Brisbane.

I actually think the Victorian Lions Staff did an excellent job with all the problems and really have their work cut out for them as the Chris Johnson lunch is on the same day as the rescheduled Player Sponsor function.

One glimmer of light for me in all this is I sponsored Colm Begley, and hopefully he could be back in the seniors in a fortnight.

I was trying to say, that we need to keep all the members that we have. We do not need to treat them poorly in any way. We have the least number of members and if we are not careful we could lose more. I think that would be tragic.

Right on both counts.

Again, they were looking after the Queenslanders - how about fly the Melbourne sponsors to Brisbane for a change?

The Victorian Lions Staff do an exceptional job. With as little as they've got to work with they bend over backwards for supporters, members and player sponsors like you wouldn't believe. This thread is not about them and I would be happy to start another thread applauding the work done by Tim Livingstone and his team, Zane, Andrew and Adam. They are magnificent and have always been forthcoming with assistance if required, a special favour here and there and basically putting up with ********s like me.

The other night you could see the look of disappointment on the likes of Tim Livingstone as he knew it was going to bite them on the bum and I asked him if his reschduling for a fortnight was thinking on his feet and he agreed it was. If the Lions had more games in Melbourne or the Player Sponsor event was scheduled for earlier in the year we wouldn't be having too many dramas but now they're scheduled for the same night as the Chris Johnson Tribute Lunch. Too much for one day and Lethal is expected to attend both! He'll be as pretty as a hat full of aresholes by the time he gets to the makeup sponsors' event.

Graeme Downie is no longer the Chairman (he's on the GC ticket now).

Chairman is that Fruit & veges guy.

Presenting.... TtT and A Dog with a Bone Adventure.... ;)

... I got my invite to the next one today and I was more disappointed to see it will go for less than 2hrs. I don't know if I'm expecting too much but, seeing that they cancelled the last time, they could hang around for longer - especially considering a lot of people come from outside of Melbourne for the event.

Just a note on the brisbane sponsor function, it went for maybe 1.5 hours. We had Leppa there to give an intro (no Leigh) and only the players with sponsors attending the function were present. And people did come from ouside of Brisbane for the event.

At least after the club petitioned the AFL they have honoured the 6 games in Melbourne.

They'll face a possible law-suit from the Fitzroy Football Club, if they don't. Less than six games breaches the merger agreement. Fitzroy was only mollified last time because the Lions agreed to wear the Fitzroy jumper for an extra AFL match in Melbourne. Fitzroy has made it clear that won't be enough next time.

I know one was in Geelong, but in previous years it has been worse.

Only once, in 2005, has it been worse.

G'day guys,

i have Chris Johnson's Pre Season jumper that he wore in 1996, and was wondering where i could get him to sign it for me, i dont travel to brisbane for the games, just every game in Melbourne, does he come down for them?

thanks guys,

Hey F44, Chris Johnson is having a tribute lunch on Friday 25 July 08 at the MCC Members Dining Room between the hours of 12pm and 2.30pm. The tickets cost $125 per head.

Yes - we froze in the gloom ( free sausages but .. ) but it's pretty typical of the Melbourne functions of late. Has a bit of a feeling like the 2001 debacle at Princess Park with Fitzroy's Team of the Century - when the Brisbane based guys finally felt the embarrassment of having to stay behind after an insipid effort and deal with it. And hey .. look what happenned after that !!!

Every Lions game here seems to be some sort of funky shoot out with no real gritty heroics .. and it's back to Fortress Gabba to circle the wagons. May make for exciting TV but the frustration at the lack of passion is clear. It's seems like Notting has been running into goal and spraying his kick FOREVER, , Selwood turns it over AGAIN, Stiller goes to ground AGAIN and Browny's picking up half-volleys AGAIN.

I don't think I can take another Tigers 2007 game again. Enough is enough.

My point was that people now have to travel twice for the one event. I am fortunate enough to work in Richmond, which, for those who don't know, is maybe a 10-15min drive to the Parkview Hotel in St. Kilda where the function was held so I don't have to take time off work but others might so they can travel down.

oh god, don't remind me! I think that is one of two games I have ever left early - and I left at half time when we were 80pts down or something like that.

Wasn't the tigers 2007 game a draw:p

Yes .. but I do remember the previous one as well ( I'd actually forgotten about that shocker - 2006 ? ) All in all, we have a crapulous record against a team with a crapulous record .. not something to inspire a night out at the Dome with some toothless Tiger fans and listless Lions players.

But I did mean last year's draw - I have NEVER seen so many turnovers. It was .. traumatic.

Yep, realise that. Just letting people know what we got up here and what to expect. Hopefully the club makes it worth everyone's while.

Whatever Roylion, you can check out any of my posts, I am as far away from a Fitzroy basher as you can get. My point was being made to the post I quoted (Lockie I think) saying it was the Lions fault that we wore that full of crap, shit inspired, piss stained, natural disarster of a jumper that we were forced to wear against the Bulldogs and Melbourne.

I know what the agreement said, and I agree that it should never be compromised, under any circumstances, however the Brisbane Lions FOotball Club does not make the draw either, so blaming them is probably pointless. It is yet another example of the AFL believing that they are a law unto themselves.

I think we also lost to them at the Gabba recently too. I remember going to the Turf Bar in the city taking my cousin and auntie - who are Richmond fans so I had an awesome night all round.

History ain't on our side.

Thanks Tim, great posts. It's fantastic to read all the passion from everyone.
Having a young family I missed the local wins of 2001 to 2004. Now my boys are old enough, we've seen a couple of wins (Blues & Roos) and some bad losses. Notably the draw with the Tigers and the loss to the Demons.
Even worse our "home" games against Geelong of recent times have been appalling. (I missed this year as we were flying home from G Coast holiday)
