WEST COAST ruckman Dean Cox is on the road to a shock comeback in the club's crucial match against St Kilda on Friday night.
Cox, who fractured his left collarbone in a collision with Western Bulldogs player Adam Cooney in Perth late in their round 13 match, was originally ruled out for six to eight weeks.
However, less than five weeks after the break, Cox will today fly to Melbourne with his team-mates and train tomorrow at Punt Road to prove his fitness.
West Coast general manager of football operations Steve Woodhouse said yesterday a decision on whether Cox resumes against the Saints would be made by the club's medical team after he completed tomorrow's training session.
"He's put his hand up to say he's available," Woodhouse said. "The medicos will assess him based on when the injury occurred and the risk factor involved if he was to come back too early."
Cox, with 26 possessions, 24 hit-outs, eight marks and two goals, was best afield in the opening match of the season, against St Kilda at Subiaco Oval, when the Eagles won by 18 points.
"The bottom line with Dean is that he's trained for the last couple of weeks, he's moved freely and this week he's been involved in competitive drills without any discomfort," Woodhouse said.
"He feels good and is raring to go, he's been doing pretty much everything."
Chad Fletcher and Andrew Embley, who missed last Saturday's 82-point win over Adelaide because of hamstring problems, are also under consideration for returns against the Saints.
