Cox likely starter for Eagles

WEST COAST ruckman Dean Cox is on the road to a shock comeback in the club's crucial match against St Kilda on Friday night.

Cox, who fractured his left collarbone in a collision with Western Bulldogs player Adam Cooney in Perth late in their round 13 match, was originally ruled out for six to eight weeks.

However, less than five weeks after the break, Cox will today fly to Melbourne with his team-mates and train tomorrow at Punt Road to prove his fitness.

West Coast general manager of football operations Steve Woodhouse said yesterday a decision on whether Cox resumes against the Saints would be made by the club's medical team after he completed tomorrow's training session.

"He's put his hand up to say he's available," Woodhouse said. "The medicos will assess him based on when the injury occurred and the risk factor involved if he was to come back too early."

Cox, with 26 possessions, 24 hit-outs, eight marks and two goals, was best afield in the opening match of the season, against St Kilda at Subiaco Oval, when the Eagles won by 18 points.

"The bottom line with Dean is that he's trained for the last couple of weeks, he's moved freely and this week he's been involved in competitive drills without any discomfort," Woodhouse said.

"He feels good and is raring to go, he's been doing pretty much everything."

Chad Fletcher and Andrew Embley, who missed last Saturday's 82-point win over Adelaide because of hamstring problems, are also under consideration for returns against the Saints.

i'd like him to play, so we could fully kill the saints weak ruck division....but i doubt he will, give him another week, same goes for embers.

i am quite confident we can get the 4 points this week, if we play anywhere near as good as we did last week, victory is assured.

judd to kick to have a blinder and glass to blanket gehrig.

What is with you and some of your supporters this week?

I know it's a big game but I can't think of any other supporters that have been as arrogant leading up to a game involving us this season.

Unfortunately while you and many of your fellow supporters seem to have no respect for us, I fear your coach and players will.

Also he will wont be match fit. he will get run off his feet and smashed in the collarbone.

You can do all the running you want with a collarbone injury so he certainly wont be run off his feet. Maybe it will take him a little while to get back into the pace of the game but he hasn't been out for too long so that shouldn't take more than a quater.

Will be interesting to see if the Saints test the injury out though.

Personally, I think this is a great chance for St.Kilda to make a statement to the rest of the comp. ala, us last week, so I'd expect them to take it and win.

Don't judge a whole by a minority. Most of us consider ourselves underdogs, though Baker's a huge loss for you.

That's why I said "what is with you and some of your supporters this week" when addressing him/her.

I think it will be a great game.

I just can't understand where some of your supporters have been getting their facts from. No-one is denying that you have an excellent midfield and it's your greatest strength but all I've been reading this week is that we have a slow midfield and lack depth.

There was an interesting article in the Herald-Sun today that pointed out that we are second to the Bulldogs in the league for bouncing the football. That suggests that we run the ball more than every other team.

I have to admit if Cox is on the sidelines when the siren sounds on friday night I'll be very relieved. He destroyed us last time and even a half fit version lacking match fitness could do a lot of damage. I do expect he'll get the injury tested out early in the game.

The way I figured it was that Cox must be close to being able to play, and Woosha would love to have that option. I think he was brought along with the belief that he was a possible starter (prob less than 50:50 chance).
It would be a risk - if he is reinjured then your finals campaign could be compromised. If he is played, then I would take it as a compliment to St Kilda - that WC consider this match so important as to risk their finals campaign over it.

You just mentioned in another thread how good your midfield was with handballs, breaking records, as if you were saying "Be careful, here we come and we will destroy you!"... and now you say you're the underdogs?

What an irony.

Totally agree. I though the pies were the most arrogant ones, but there's not doubt after all I have read that the eagle fans have been the most big-ego fans that have come around this saints board.

I still don't understand why they don't go to the main board to post sentences like the ones you've pointed out, sainter. If we lose, I guess they will come back and use their big mouth (well, in this case their big fingers) again. If we win, very very few of them will come back and congratulate us.

About this thread, I think they've just said that about Cox cause they want to play with GT and Saints selectors a bit, but he won't be included in the 22 (at least, I wish so or I really hope so ;) ).

I just read that post, and he said nothing of the sort, just a cut and paste of a media article.
Paranoia strong in the Saints camp this week. :D

Huh? Did uou really read what I wrote?

breaking records, as if you were saying "Be careful, here we come and we will destroy you!"...

Do you know the meaning of the sum of the two words "as" + "if"?

Maybe we're a bit paranoic, who knows, but most of you keep being really arrogant. :thumbsd:

Did you even read what I wrote?

The only reason I posted those records were beacuse the thread was to do with the Saints breaking a goal kicking record so I just thought it was funny that two teams who had both set AFL records the game before were playing the next week.

I don't see any we're going to destroy you comments in there.

Hope he plays.

The Saints will test out to see if his collarbone is truly healed. If it goes again the WCE will be culpable for rushing him back.

Also he will wont be match fit. he will get run off his feet and smashed in the collarbone.

I guess that must mean you weren't one of the people upset and complaining when Michael and Scott charged into Reiwoldt's shoulder?
