Was lucky enough to be joined in my morning commute to the office by the voice of Neil Craig on SEN.

The early questions being asked were in relation to the age coaches should stop coaching and if they had expiery dates etc etc. Quite normal responces by Neil saying experience is invaluable tc etc.

On to the good stuff.

Was asked about Trent Hetschel, Craig said he is now treated as anyone else at the club, no special love for Rowdy anymore, said he continues to improve which each game, the last of which resulting in 4 goals, still fairy standard Craigy. He said his 2 pocket goals were an example of him being able to do things a lot can't, he is just a really telanted player.

He was then asked about our forward line.

He said that it's staring to look very good, mentioned Tippett, Hentschel, Walker, Porplyzia. Was interesting to hear him out Porp as a forward. He only mentioned these 4 names and said they'd look quite good.

Craig then interupted to mindless banter between Tim & Andrew and the hilarious Gazey to say "Then there's Taylor Walker, who is a special talent" and before they could respond Craigy ripped out and enthusiastic "and do you know what I mean by special talent?" Once again not letting them respond (as Craigy most likely has come to the conclusion there a tad slow (Gaze exempt)) "The type of player who can just do things others wont ever be able to to. The type that inspires players and supporters. The type of player, as a coach, you go to bed and dream about. He's just that talented."

Almost rammed my car up someones rear end after hearing Craigy get fired up.

Gazey then came on and asked about our basketball boys.

Craig menioned Henderson and Tippett and how their ability to know what's around them in close quick reactions were "excellent". That they just had to become accostmed to the things "we" learn as 9 year olds playing the game.

Seemed very up beat about Henderson, and of course Tippett.

Hope I didn't leave anything out, but there's some food for thought and some fuel to add to the fire that is Taylor Walker.

Well if Craigy can get excited about Walker, then he MUST be good!!

I get the feeling Craig ahs been holding him back in the NAB/Challenge Cup maybe in an attempt to prevent the inevitable first year burnout.

Wow, didn't mention Gill:rolleyes: Interesting:cool:

Geez, big raps for Walker though, just makes me want the season to start sooner, so I can see him play already.

Does anyone know what exactly got him fired up? Was he offended by the guys on the show or something?

Not at all.

Just made a point about mentioning Walker, and while doing so, got worked up.

As I said before, i've never heard this tone in his voice, wasn't mechanical at all, just seemed genuinly excited about Tex.

Power of BF underway CC!

E-mail sent as well, I would really like to listen to his interview. Craigy always interests me the way he answers questions in interviews.
The thing that has always intrigued me about Craigs interviews is he, without fail, addresses everyone he is talking to by name.

Complete professional. I would like to see his lighter side in interviews a little bit more often though. I just get the feeling sometimes its all work and no play for him.

Yeah, I love that about him :) I really, really like listening to Craig's interviews, even when he is stonefaced and won't arc up, but even more so when he does.

ah look I'm vicarious turned on, reading about about craigy talking about walker.

i'm so confused here, I not sure who I have a man crush on more, right now.

do you think the AFL will retrospectively rescind the NSW scholarship scheme and put Tex in the PSD, on the grounds they didn't realise he would be any good. the gibbs clause I believe its called.

:D:D

i'm only laughing to stop me crying, because I know it could happen.

A guy i know went to the game, he reckons Walker will be a fairly solid player for the crows, but is nothing special

Another point that Craigy mentioned during the interview was that in the 5 years he has been coach, this is the most excited he has been about the player list and the potential talent.

AFL has already made room in collingwoods salary cap to allow him to move there for the 2010 season.

Probably watching the wrong Taylor.

Ahh crow-mo, you are like the heavy black tights that are a staple of most women's wardrobes for winter. Passion killers I believe many refer to them as... ;)

On Saturday night at my dads 60th I was amazed when one Matt Rendell attended. To cut a very very long story short we started drinking at 7.30 and the great man didnt leave til me and three other footy heads were the last ones standing, the sun was almost up. The guy is as honest as they come, answered every question I could think of. I promised him I wouldnt spill my guts on everything, straight away. Seriously for a big footy geek, it was a dream come true, didnt even have a beer with my old man, unless he was near Matt.
He could not speak highly enough of Walker and reckons he is the best he has seen in his whole career of ending up on the end of a poor kick in the forward lines.
He was amazed at how much I knew about all the kids in the last four or five drafts and then he twigged, he said "you arent on that bloody bigfooty are you"? Believe me, they read this and do rate some posters. I urged him to look up VicCrow, as he has only one main scout in Vic, and not sure whether it was just the piss but he seemed semi-keen, so if you are reading VicCrow and are interested send him an email at the club and mention your name VC.
A few points of interest without giving him totally up....
1. Roughhead was offered as a trade in 2007.
2.He would of taken Davis over everyone but the first two.
3.Loves Myke Cook and reckons Collingwood wanted him last trade, even stooped to telling the kid he was on the table when he wasnt.
4. Said Trengove was a great kid. The smashed window incident was him stopping a drunked girl from drink driving home who refused not to drive.
5. The kid who wouldnt come to SA wasnt even drafted in the main draft, he went in rookie, no big name.
6. Danger was driving but it was absoloute rubbish he was punished for it.
7.Robert Harvey was uncoachable. He only knew how to play one way, his way and flat out.
8. Loves Sloane and wouldnt of taken Schoenmaker if he slipped to 3rd round.
9.Rates Mckernan as his best ever pick, was just amazed he was there.
10. Said Lobbe will be a very very good player, in the ruck. This absoloutely gutted me, I wanted him to tell me he was shit.
11. Was never going to get Ebert. Said the obvious that we dont need another six footer who isnt quick.
12. School teachers are interviewed when a kid gets drafted. This was one of the main reasons Cyril was overlooked.
13. The clubs rapt with how Jacky is coming along.
14. Get Andy Otten in your dream team as he will likely be played down back.
15. For a bloked who calls a spade a spade he agreed 100% with me when I said Craig was a great coach who had overachieved and now needs an oppurtunity to rebuild his own list.
16. We didnt draft an extra rookie because its an extra 9k to get an interstater and the club is being tight. That really annoyed me. He did have anyother SA kids in mind. And to be honest the stuff we have all heard him say in the media is exactly what he thinks, its the same stuff that comes out after a heap of Pale Ale's.

Got any other questions, Im happy to reply to messages, cause certain issues Im not going near. The only question I forgot to ask him is why the bloody hell he didnt consider James Boyd from South on the rookie list!
