What do you think some of the more 'outside the box' changes do you think the coach could look at to improve the side. For me:

Mooney/Hawkins at CHB - I think this could be a good move. IMO both are more talented than Lonergan and I think either could make a positive impact if moved to defense.

Varcoe in a Mcleod role off HB- I know he's been earmarked as our ball carrier but I think he has the potential to do it and do it well. Some of his coast to coast goals that he created last season were sublime.

Taylor Hunt as a tagger- For me the kid has bags of potential and his tackling has a nice hard edge. I want to see him play 15+ games this season and if he develops the aerobic capacity than tagger could be a good role for him.

Not saying these changes are necessarily right but I wouldn't mind seeing them tried maybe in the NAB cup as a plan B perhaps.

Wojo moved from defence permently to the wing to become an attacking player.

His game against Freo in the finals was one of his best

Harry Taylor to go forward.

Joel Corey if fit to go to the half back line pernanantly.

Scarlett to just shut down the oppositions best forward each week and be less creative and attacking.

Mooney to be our second ruck allowing Taylor to be CHF.

Even if Hawkins had the base to play CHB, which he doesn't, he lacks basic agility and pace off the mark to go with any half decent CHF.

Imagine Hawk playing on Riewoldt :thumbsd:

Just play the kids as much as possible.

I want to see plenty of Menzel, Duncan, Christensen and a bit of Vardy and Mitch Brown as well. From a body size perspective Schroder looks the closest but is probably unlikely to see anymore than one or two games. Smedts and Guthrie need to build up but may be capable of a game or two each as well.

Positionally I would like to see J.Hunt moved out of the backline and tried on a forward flank. Kelly needs to go back to playing down back where he was so good in 2009. We can't play 3 talls down forward - only two of Mooney, Hawkins, Pods and Brown get a game - the others can play VFL.

With the inclusion of either Gillies, Drum or T.Hunt down back i'd like to see Mackie play more on a wing or go back to half-forward flank. Opposition sides have become largely successful at shutting down his goal kicking prowess.

Call me crazy but I think I'm onto something - Hawkins to full-forward.

Correct, but i don't think that is to creative. Just have a big hulking Hawkins charging out and demanding the football and jumping on heads and cleaning up anyone in his way, thats what i want to see.

He can't do much of that running himself ragged around the ground, failing to win hit outs and creating hot spots in his foot.

unfortunately, this will only probably happen when mooney/pods are gone by which time he may not be on our list.

look what happened to jack reidwoldt when richo (i know he played wing and all over but he still drifted into the forward line and hence demanded the ball) retired. he became the undisputable go to guy.

Inject Mackie, T Hunt and Gillies into the backline - put J Hunt in the middle or up forward to play the Max Rooke role and use his foot passing skills to hit Hawkins & J-Pod on the lead. Drop Milburn & Mooney to the 2nds and use them to cover injury or poor form.

Play Wojo on the wing.

Put a short leash on Hawkins and tie it to the goal post. J-Pod to CHF.

Replace either Byrnes or Stokes with Duncan, and cycle the remaining player through the season with Menzel & Christensen.

Play Blake in the 2nds, and rotate Simpson, West & Vardy with Ottens in the ruck throughout the year.

............and you wonder why I'm not a coach? :)

Yeah seems simple doesn't it. Hopefully Chris Scott has the same thinking. Hawkins playing out the of the goal square would be awesome. One-on-One he super Strong. Shouldnt venture out of the forward 50 IMO. If he could just add cup of "Mongel" to the way he plays.....

Ok i'll give it a go:
- Mackie to wing / hff
- T Hunt to Hbf
- Ling to hff
- Varcoe to wing / hbf
- Taylor to FB with Scarlo BP
- Drum CHB
- Lonergan/Hawk FF
- Simpson / West 2nd ruck

Would generally like to see a more versatile game style that will allow constant rotation of small to medium players in different spots. For example, Hogan, Menzel,Duncan, Byrnes, Wojo, Kelly, J.Hunt,Corey rotating, especially in the NAB Cup. They probably all wont play at the same time but its good to have flexibility throughout the ground, especially in positions that dont require height or specialisation

Hawkins to the Magoo's till he can take a 1 grab mark and gets some mongrel about him, no more wishy washy 'He's still young' rhetoric, he is either an AFL footballer or not!!

On a positive note I certainly like the idea of wojack on the wing and maybe even Mackie on the other

Josh Hunt is a hard choice for me, he has a scapel for a left boot but gets lost in the agility stakes, I think him and Lonergan are our biggest liabilities down back but I would be happy to see him go forward, half forward for mine.

That leaves a few gaping holes around half back but I'm sure the other lads down there would have enough experience and maturity to help some incumbent youngsters learn their craft down there.

Rival clubs have worked Mackie out. Move him to Wing / HF Flank. He has a pretty decent kick and decent leg speed.

Lingy is getting pretty slow, would like him to play as a defensive forward.

T.Hunt to play HBF

Wojo to play Wing

Hawk in the VFL until he can prove he deserves a spot. (He was awesome this year until his foot injury). also, HE IS NOT A RUCKMAN!!!!

Simpson / Westy as 2nd ruck

Blakey to the 2's

and play the kids..

How about big Cam Mooney into the ruck?

It solves 2 problems:

It opens up a spot for Hawkins (who currently can't seem to settle into a regular position) into the forward 50 with Pods

It solves our backup ruck problem- Mark Blake. The game is heading towards mobile ruckman who are able to contribute around the ground, and go up forward, take a mark and kick a goal. This counts out Blake, Mooney would be perfect for this role Ala Leigh Brown (Collingwood)

I really believe Tom Hawkins needs to be backed in and settled into a position in the forward line. We can't keep shifting him around. The man needs to feel like he belongs. Just my opinion. :D

I agree Hawk needs to be settled into the forward line.
Just wish he had a bit of Moons' agro in him...just a bit, not all of it lol

I completely agree..... Cam would be very helpful around the ground, and I would suspect he would make his opponent feel very uneasy playing next to him as he drifts forward. And hes actually a pretty good kick when its not at goal, lol.

Then settle Hawkins in the FF, with Pods at CHF.

Those suggestions aren't that creative though - but I don't mind the suggestions of J.Hunt to the forward line, maybe as a defensive forward, but we'd obviously miss him down back with his booming kicks, so would depend on his replacement.
