Cricket Australia Contracts 2017/8

Sutherland is trying hard to spin it otherwise but the ******s at CA caved, excellent :)

Revenue sharing retained with the changes the ACA wanted and the compromises they were willing to make, including big changes to women's pay and grass roots, and CA got practically nothing of what they were trying to force through.

Sutherland, Roberts, Howard, and Peever all need to go, their positions are completely untenable and their reputations shot.

OK. Whatever.
Let's just play cricket...

I think the talk of bad blood remaining between players and admin and damaging the game is overblown. For the foreseeable future players will play and admin will admin. It won’t really become a major issue again until the next pay negotiation which isn’t for another four years and there’ll be some different players and different admin involved in anycase.

Probably the main issue of frostiness will be when players have to interact with CA board member Mark Taylor on Ch 9 this summer, especially when he came out publicly at one stage heavily criticising the ACA. Also think Michael Clarke’s largely pro-admin public statements wouldn’t have endeared him to the players, although he probably wasn’t massively popular with them already.

CA's brilliant record of incompetence continues!

Howard has to support the board. To be honest the 2 biggest problems in the situation were Roberts and Alistair Nicholson...Sutherland needs to have afoot hard look at himself also for not getting involved earlier

Nicholson played the Cricket Australia Board like a well tuned Stradivarius. The players achieved all the key matters. They are in a stronger position now than they have ever been.

An astute Howard would have remained at arm's length as the coach did. Don't see how he can remain in his present role after dissing the players as he did. Weak as piss.

The union basher Peever has to go. In fact, if the Board as a whole and Sutherland had a shred of integrity, they should all resign after this shambles.

I wish David Warner would shut his gob on this contract stuff. I bet he and the rest of his high rolling mates are shelling out to help their younger state team mates pay their rent and bills while this drags on. He has completely lost me this bloke
In his and the rest of his high rolling mates defence they did knock back a fair whack of cash so state players didn't get stooged. Young Davey has more or less been an industrial superstar as much as it pains me to say it

i think the players are probably sensible enough to understand Howard's position and job. He had to go with the flow. if anyone's under threat, it'd oughta be Kevin Roberts. Went from the board to the executive team and being the lead negotiator and he massively failed.
He should go into the movie business as he was such a natural in front of the camera

Great to see the impasse seems over and a settlement is in sight.

Can't see how Howard can continue in his hands-on role due to his partisan involvement in support of the board. Nor can I see how the union bashing Peever can remain Chairman.

Time for a thorough investigation into the ham-fisted way this shambles played out.
Agree 100% re Peever. As someone earlier on here said...its easy to bully and force individual contracts on FIFO miners with the threat of some 457 flunky walking in and doing their job for third of the price but its a little bit harder with a well organised and unified Australian cricket team.

Well played lads:thumbsu:

From CA's perspective the biggest loser has to be Kevin Roberts. Was heading the negotiations for months with no headway but once Sutherland was brought in they were resolved within weeks.

Plus he did that infamously patronising video about the joys of CA's offer. Don't see how he could be the next CEO after this debacle.

Peever almost as big a loser; clearly unprepared with the fact that in these sorts of areas, pro sport play by different rules (hence his big sook of a column in The Australian). Would be wise to stay out of the public eye this summer.

Is Pat Howard really that much to blame for this? Seems he gets thrown up as a scapegoat because he's a Rugby man and has unappealing roles to play.

I read a lot of online comments about calling for Sutherland's resignation but I think he comes out OK from this. Took too long to get involved but when he did things got moving and had to front up with the humiliation of caving in to ACA.
