And whose brainwave was it to schedule the Chappell/Hadlee ODI's against NZ between the 3rd Test against South Africa, and the First Test against Pakistan? The last game is just 6 days before the Gabba Test.

I have a 'hit list' and the names of Sutherland, Howard and Marsh top the list. These guys have presided over the greatest fall from grace Australian cricket and possibly Australian sport has seen. Poor administration, poor player management and ridiculous selection have all contributed to the woeful position Australian Test cricket is in.

The scheduling of Australian Test series is atrocious as both Ian Chappell and Kim Hughes have pointed out and James Sutherland has to accept responsibility for this. He should go but of course he won't.

It's easy to forget that, just 6 short months ago, we were the world number 1 Test nation. The way it's looking, I'll make my AFL debut before we return to that lofty mantle.

The Bellerive test was not the test that has been over in the shortest time, but it is probably in the top 30 where a result has been reached. The above list has games where even only a few balls have been bowled. There was even one where only 10 were bowled, from the notes on the game :
  • The match was abandoned after ten balls because the bowlers were unable to get any solid footholds in an overly sandy outfield. Alan Hurst, the ICC match referee, ruled: "The ground conditions, and especially the bowlers' run-ups, were unfit and potentially dangerous and we decided it would not be possible to rectify those fundamental issues over the course of a day or so."
  • The Test was moved to the old Antigua Recreation Ground with play scheduled to start on Sunday, February 15, two days later.
  • The statistics from the abandoned Test count towards career records.
The list from espncricinfo records contains games up to 985 balls long, this one was 1163. Of the games recorded 15 of them had a result.

We were lucky to hold the no1 status as I never felt we were the undisputed best. For starters our batting has been found wanting for the last five years. We have not replaced the likes of Hayden, Hussey or Gilchrist, despite Lyon's 200 test wickets he does not induce fear among opponents and our fast bowlers are an injury prone bunch. Australia needs an injection of youth and administrators who put Test Cricket above money.

Australia's official ranking stands at no 3 atm but as I see it we are probably number 5 behind South Africa, Pakistan, England and India in no particular order.

As we close in on the second anniversary of Phil Hughes' death (Sunday, November 27), I can't help wondering if our blokes are still deeply affected by it. I haven't watched much of the cricket this summer, but to me our fast bowling seems to be a bit too "nice" - there's not enough venom. Compare it to the South Africans, who have been vicious (legally of course). I still reckon Mitchell Johnson retired early because he lost the desire to play after Hughes died, and I wonder if certain others are still feeling the effects.

Yet another unwanted record for our bunch of underperformers: there were 15 single figure scores in Hobart, which hadn't happened since 1912. No wonder Rod Marsh fell on his sword!!!

Its like Marty McFly and Doc have jumped in their DeLorean time machine from 1985/86 and jumped 30 years ahead and Oz cricket is in the same state. Different factors driving the poor results but fundamentally weakness of players with poor technique and ability, poor depth and bad administration like 30 years ago.

The more things change the more they stay the same it seems

We could have a total 360 here like the first test. But somehow I doubt it. At least if the match is a draw then it is Queensland who are under pressure and not us.

EDIT : Just as I submit my post Khawaja is out.

We're not going to end up right on top like we have after the first day before, but it's going to be looking much better than it was at 1/188 with both Khawaja and Renshaw not out.

Bring it on - it'll be a real test of how much our batsmen have inproved.

These household names just roll off the tongue - Haseeb Hameed, Moeen Ali, Zafar Ansari and Adil Rashid. They're all members of the England cricket team :-)

Those names are more english than fish and chips.

Qld about to pass 400. With Floros and Cutting still to come they could be at 500 by tea. Would be a perfect opportunity for Ferg to bunker down and show he can stay at the crease!
Ben Cutting seems to have a thing about SA as well and Chris Hartley has been lying low and should be ready to attack. I certainly can't see us chasing less than 450. Hopefully we can bat for ever and call it a draw.

Hmm you think? :p

Head to Cutting, FOUR
118.5

How come Queensland got Khawaja but we didn't get Mennie? Khawaja has a 97 and a 64 in this series, I'd think he, Warner, Smith and S.Marsh(if his finger's better) are assured of a place in the third test.
