...and if Chad Sayers was a New South Welshman he would also be playing this Test. People from interstate think we have a complex but when you look at the selection over the past two or three tests our feelings are justified. It is not as if the Redbacks are not going well, they made the final last year and are near the top of the table this year. That has to be on the back of some solid performances from the likes of Head, Sayers, Mennie and Lehmann. Ferguson got one Test and now Maddison has has had two, if he fails again in the second dig and gets another go we will have even more proof that NSW is the place to play.

That said I would not bank on Travis Head getting the nod because Sean Marsh is back in training.

Time for Handscombe to be given the gloves. He is an infinitely better bat than Nevill and a better gloveman than Matthew Wade.
 
Hazlewood was dismissed bowled from the last ball of the 119th over, Handscomb was then dismissed from the first ball of the next over. Since then Bird has faced every ball taking a single from the last ball to retain the strike. Until the last of the 123rd when he hit a six to allow Lyon to face his first ball in a partnership of 14 runs and 24 balls.

Since then lyon has made up for it Mick.

PS I have been watching the Poms v India and the ball is turning at 90 deg on some absolute dust bowls. I almost feel sorry for the Poms and I have real trepidation about the Aussies in India next year. Some posters are in raptures about Ashwin's figures but he has absolute gift conditions. We need to find a top class spinner quick smart.

Head could score a 200 in the Big Bash, and he still wouldn't play ahead of Maddinson on Boxing Day.
 
Maddinson is a lucky bastard.

Makes his debut in Adelaide a batsman's paradise and makes 0, but team wins after Yahpees take foot off the pedal having already won the series before the Test.

In Brisbane, Smith and Handscomb bat all night session of day 1, means he avoids the worst conditions, bats in middle of the arvo and makes 1 today. We will beat the Pakis and he will get another go, because there is no shield games on for another 6 or 7 weeks and he will probably get to play at MCG Test and if he makes a couple of 20's or 30's he will play at the SCG Test as well.

Those with day 4 tickets would be nervous right now. A collapse like this wouldn't be much of a promotion for Boxing Day either. Pathetic!!!

i love test cricket, but it is in pretty dire straights at the moment and has been for a long time. aside from the ashes, there's bugger all interest.

roll on the big bash, i guess (which i do actually enjoy...)

Pakistan are hardly minnows, in the ICC rankings they are ranked at no4 just behind Australia. They beat us 3-0 in the Emirates two years ago.

The situation is the Pakis are simply not used to playing with a pink ball that behaves differently to the standard red ball. Last year New Zealand and Australia both struggled in the first ever day/night Test before Australia prevailed and this year Australia humbled the all conquering Proteas with the pink ball.
 
Surprise, surprise, Ian Chappell is calling for Matthew Wade to be replaced after Wade's butchering of a regulation stumping off Nathan Lyon last night.

Blind Freddie can see that Wade is not up to test standard as a keeper and as Chappell suggests a decent keeper will be essential in India next year. Hopefully the selectors will not re visit Peter Nevill, who is good enough as a keeper but not up to it as a batsman. Why not hand the gloves to Handscombe and see how he goes? I have always thought his glove work was tidy in the chances he has had for Victoria.

Before the South Africans had started their tour Justin Langer had a real go at Wade and said his keeping had not improved, maybe the selectors should have listened?
 
From all reports it's a stinker in Brisbane and Steve Smith would have plenty of reason not to enforce the follow-on.
1. To ensure the public see Australia bat and the game goes into at least the fourth and maybe the fifth day.
2. To keep his fast bowlers away from the hottest part of the day.
3. So that Australia don't have to chase on a wearing pitch. A captain has to consider all scenarios and it is always a possibility that Pakistan could apply themselves, get to 150 ahead and then Yasir Shah could bowl Australia out on the last day.

So how many is enough? The first innings lead was basically double what Pakistan made, so I'd getting to to 150 ASAP. If they're good enough to make a world record score, then good luck to them.
