On the BBL, what's happened to Peter Siddle? His last couple of seasons with the Strikers, it felt like he was going for 15 an over and they unsurprisingly cut him loose.

Now at 41 he's going for 6 an over and taking bags of 3 and 4 wickets. It has been some turnaround in form.
Yep 3/23 tonight another good performance in saying that there’s some pretty average sloggers in the BBL now

Some people are getting a little carried away atm. This wicket may settle down and England have to bat last. I heard an interview with Scott Boland on the ABC last night and he said that he expects the wicket to improve for batting. Scott should know as he has played on the MCG often enough.

Australia do not have a huge lead and we have no front line spinner. This game is evenly poised.

So the MCG pitch eh I think there's a few factors tbh curator left too much grass & didn't shave enough off the top as McGrath has said plus they were perhaps thinking about the heat coming day 3 or 4 (quite daft if that's the case).
We need to factor in pretty loose batting from both sides as well to a degree. RussellEbertHandball how do you see it?

I think the Poms are mentally fried - if they have to chase anything over 180-200, I reckon they'll struggle.

Plenty of poor shots and some excellent bowling. I did see one graphic that showed the ball is moving fractionally more than average.

Weather does come into curator's thinking when preparing the pitch.

The Gabba pitch in 2022 against South Africa was a poor one and was very green on day 1 as the curator tried to compensate for the predicted very hot weather and high humidity which didn't eventuate and SAF made 150 or so Oz was 5 for about 130 at stumps - thanks to Head who was 60 or 70 odd at stumps day 1, and all up made another 90, Oz made about 220, SAF replied with 99 and Oz struggled to make 30 odd to win think lost 5 wickets - all over in less than 2 full days.

The MCC/ MCG curator are a bit paranoid about past history of poor slow bounce and "dead" pitches at the MCG.

As I wrote a few weeks ago the MCG drop in pitches are dropped onto a concrete slab and AO and Perth Stadium they have concrete footings with sand in between the footings which helps with the bounce of the ball and life of the pitch. For the last 3 maybe 4 tests now the MCG curator Matt Page, who the MCC recruited from Perth Stadium and WACA, decided to put sand on the concrete slab to help with the low bounce.

But its resulted in what Damien Fleming calls tennis ball bounce, higher but slower bounce. I think the extra grass left on the pitch 10mm instead of about 6-8mm is a combo of compensating for that tennis ball bounce and that hot weather coming for days 3 and 4.

175 will be tough to get, but Harry Brook could play a T20 innings and score 70 in 35 balls and Root Stokes and Crawley make up most of the other 106 runs needed to win.

I don't think I'm being too harsh when I say they should sack the groundsman immediately

I don’t know what’s gotten into them of late.

The SCG pitch they presented Bumrah with last year looked like a loaf of mouldy bread.

We'll be lucky to even get to day 3 at this rate

Cricket Australia really have to have a good hard look at the Melbourne pitch. Bad batting is bad batting but the public deserve better than matches ending inside of three days. All the Victorian inspired hype about how great the Boxing Day Test is and they produce this wicket to play on. The wicket has streaks of green in it and was always going to be a pace bowler's paradise.

It is up to the Aussie pace attack now. Despite the social media hype is a gettable total and the Poms are in with a real chance. If bazball works it could be over inside of two days!!! Disgraceful.
