Gilchrist quoted an interesting stat a few minutes ago. Apparently Sheffield Shield batting averages have dropped by 16 runs in the last 10 years.

Their conclusions were that it was all about the pitches and changes to the Kookaburra balls, moving the game more in favour of the bowlers.

What they neglected to mention was the detrimental impact that T20 cricket has had on batting techniques. Players just don't have the sound defences and shot selection that they had in the past, when they were primarily brought up to play the longer form of the game.

Don't get me wrong, their comments about pitches and balls are valid - but they don't tell the whole story.

This spell, just before lunch, was the first time he's bowled well all series. Most of his wickets have been the result of Australian batsmen pissing themselves with laughter at the shite he was throwing down, and getting themselves out due to a loss of concentration.

Full credit to him though for turning it around. That spell he bowled just before lunch was bang on the money.

Yep... he bowls unmitigated garbage for the first 12 days of the Test Series, and I call him out on it. Then he decides to bowl line & length for the first time, making me look like a mug in the process.

Even his first spell in this innings was crap. Not sure where his last 2 spells have come from - there was nothing in his history this series to suggest that he'd be any threat to anyone.

This could be seriously expensive for CA. It's looking highly likely that they'll have to refund 90,000+ tickets for Day 3, plus any that have been sold for Day 4.

CA bank on The Ashes and the Border-Gavaskar series to keep them afloat. Having 2 day tests in Perth & Melbourne is a financial disaster for them.

There's quite a bit of talent in this English team. Probably should be glad they stuffed up their planning and waited until they had almost lost the Ashes before coming good.
Reckon more than half their side are ordinary.

This innings suits them as they can win in 30 overs...

It's a bit depressing reading - that post (from a very smart poster) is more than four years ago. But they're all the players still in the mix at the top.

Look, we've won everything under the sun, so you can't complain - but we need the next generation to put their hand up.

Which has now cost him the last 2 Tests.
And? Wasn’t the point that the team thinks they’ve done the job?
To me what Cummins did is different to the team resting on their laurels.

None of those Australian A batsmen are in consideration.

Interesting that Carey & 3 of the bowlers are playing today.

Yes thats the point, and youve pretty much confirmed it.

Cummins brought himself in knowing he had one test in him, won the game and said "job is done, 3-nil then brings back the B/C grade bowling attack for the remainder of the series.

I dont think this side has the killer instinct of the previous generations, but its hard to tell because it hasnt got the talent either.

A rubbish English side are about to walk in their first Test win in this country in 15 years

They're Port Adelaide.

Top end talent very good, but they dont win when it gets hard because the rest of the side aren't good at all.

Guys like Tongue, Bethell and Smith probably will end up good Test cricketers but they arent yet.
