Probably long overdue on here since we seem to have lots of traffic and discussion of things other than North, the 'Ponting time to go' thread has served it's purpose, still plenty of cricket left this summer too, perhaps the Mods can sticky or paste in it's own fora.

Anyways the topic to kick it off would be 'Siddle how much longer?' really disappointed with his output lately, he's all bluff and bluster, doesn't do enough with the ball either, outswing is the simplest bowling skill and this joker hasn't got the ability, all he does is sledge, plus I preferred his previous front teeth to his new ones.

Cummins, Hazelwood and Pattinson have more potential than Siddle, but their bodies just constantly let them down.

Hilfenhaus needs the conditions to be perfectly suited to his swing bowling, or otherwise he gets smashed.

Lyon is poo. But he is a nicer shade of poo than Doherty, Hauritz, Beer, etc.

I like Starc.

I got wraps for Siddle. Attitude shouldn't be underrated when it comes to fast bowlers and this guy's got it in spades.

Like a true shinboner he puts in every time he steps on the field. I don't think his role is as a wicket taker honestly, he is part of a team of bowlers. Much like we can't expect every player on the field to pick up 30 touches each game...

He is a slightly better Mitchell Johnson.
At Starc's age now, Johnson wasn't even playing first class cricket. Right now there isn't a whole lot between them, but by the time they're done Starc will be streets ahead.

Pretty much how I see it as well.

Siddle is currently our best test bowler simply because he is our most consistent.

It really frustrated me that we do not have a bowler that can tie up an end! Line and length is a thing I the past in Australian cricket.

I personally believe that Shane Watson is actually our best bowler simply because he has true cricket smarts. But he will never lead a bowling attack because of his body.

Siddle and Hilfy frustrate the shit out of me because the don't have enough tricks. When the pressure is really on they very rarely get break throughs. However u cannot fault Siddle's character.

Really would be ideal to have Cummins, Pattinson and Starc all in the one line up. There is a lot to like there! How long till Cummins is back?

What ever happened to Dough Bollinger?

Lyon. Yuck. Why can't we simply find a genuine spinner?? There isn t actually too many left in international cricket these days. Bit sad because at their best they are incredible to watch.

What are people's thoughts on rob Quiney? I wish they would just give games to either Hughes or Khwaja and let them develop in the test side!

You mean they haven't 500 times before and he has failed every single ****ing time!

Cummins, Pattinson, Harris & Starc are our best fast bowlers and all of them do plenty with the ball and if we could get them all on the park at the same time we'd be #1 in the world.

Siddle, Johnson, Hilfenhaus & Lyon aren't dangerous enough and rarely "bowl us to victory" when they should. How many times do they have to fail at their sole objective.

He is first cab off the rank when injury hits, but he isn't and will never be the spearhead. Joker is harsh though joseph, you can't deny his shinboner spirit, he has a heart the size of phar lap.

steve smith showed a bit of potential a while back but seems to have faded into obscurity

Bit like Cameron White in that not quite good enough as a batsmen and his bowling isnt first class level let alone test level

I like Starc..got heaps of talent. Just hasnt got the consistency..yet

Had to throw a bit of controversy into the mix to stir up the natives.

Lyon is poo. But he is a nicer shade of poo than Doherty, Hauritz, Beer, etc.

He is averaging 30, striking at 65 and conceding just 2.84 runs per over. At very least he is adequate and at most is showing plenty of potential and improvement.

Siddle frequently ties up an end and rarely gets carted. He doesn't neet "tricks" and isn't a "tricks" bowler. His ability to take the ball and send down several solid overs at any time of play balances the attack nicely.

WTF do you mean "find a genuine spinner"? 1. In what way isn't Lyon a genuine spinner? and 2. Even if he isn't a "genuine spinner" he is still doing a solid job.

We were denied in Adelaide when the best batting line-up in the world actually dug in. Aside from that they have "bowled us to victory" plenty of times, notwithstanding rain delays e.g. in Sri Lanka 2011.

Siddle probably is Australia's best bowler at the moment...but that probably doesn't say a lot about the rest of them though. Cummins, Pattinson, Hazlewood, McDermott and Starc should all be better than him in time. Gotta love his heart though and should play simply for that.

Siddle's problem seems to be that he either can't or won't pitch the ball up often enough. Watch all his best spells - the hattrick, in Melbourne against SAF a few years back, in Adelaide last year - all involved him putting the ball up there. But too often - on the first day in Brisbane, most of last summer, most of the Ashes two years ago - he bowls a length that is neither full or menacingly short and he looks very pedestrian.

Vs England 1st test in england (09) and at the gabba (10-11)
Vs Sth Africa in adelaide, perth (08,12)

We had these teams on toast and the hilfy, sids, lyon combo just isn't good enough against the very best.

That combo knocked them over for very little at the Adelaide Oval in the first innings, and was a critical to us beating India last year. We just got beaten 1-0 by the best team in the world. It's not a disaster. It was also the batting which let us down against SA in 2008 and 2012. We should have taken a first innings lead easily this year (although Siddle and Hilfenhaus didn't play, so not sure it was their fault anyway).

We had over 15 overs at Panesar and Swann and couldn't get them out with Siddle, Hilfenhaus, Johnson & Hauritz?

If Lyon was any good he would have bowled us to victory in Adelaide. He is pretty good, just not great. Would happily consider Holland or even Danny O'Shea ahead of him.

He is a slightly better Mitchell Johnson.

Gary Putland is better than Mitch Johnson.

The other smokey is Richardson from SA, can bowl that kid and moves it in a mile.

In 2005 Shane Warne and Glen McGrath couldn't break through against South Africa at the WACA. Jacques Rudolf and Justin Kemp held us out for a draw. I guess Warne and McGrath are just pretty good though.

You're basically putting a line through an off spinner who in his 15th match wasn't able to bowl our the best batting side in the world.

Serious question, what are you basing Holland or O'Shea ahead of him on?

Aussie cricket is in a great place in young talent coming through. Most of you have named all the young bowlers but theres some good batsman coming thru to.

You've got Finch who caught My eye last year and he's come on a lot this year, he'll come into the T20 Aussie team and hopefully one dayers.

And the there's Mitch March who's one of if not the brightest all rounder prospect in the land only 21 I think, nice bowler and great batting talent. Tore 90% off his hammy from the bone so this year not looking good!
