I've been disappointed by our home crowds this year
36.7k (WB), 36.4k (StK), 35.3k (Port), 40.3k(Derby), 29.3k!(GWS).
Starting to doubt if upping the stadium capacity to 60k is such a good idea afterall. The empty seats weren't a good look at all last weekend , and in combination with our quiet crowd , is a little embarrassing . Why haven't people (Members, in the wings and the public ) been attending as much as usual this season ?:/

Probably not attending because (a) they aren't that excited by another year of relative mediocrity (b) GWS aren't a big draw and (c) given most of our members are of pension age maybe they just can't be arsed ...

I'd just add, that the full stadiums for 15+ years has bred an entire generation who really don't think about going to the football. They've never been able to.

So they are accustomed to watching at home on a 60 inch TV in comfortable surroundings ... the culture of going to the football might have been killed off in WA even amongst genuine football fans...

The notion of building 80,000+ stadiums advocated by many was always a silly idea ...

Mother's Day is always going to be a low drawing day. The reason the AFL give it to us is because it's already a sell out and it doesn't matter if no one rocks up.

A 60,000 seat stadium should at least revive the notion of attending footy in WA. There will be casual attendees that can just rock up and buy a ticket at the gate and a lot of them will turn into regulars. It will be a good thing!

How big is the new stadium gonna be, 60000? If it is Membership should be capped 50000 to keep new blood coming through which would help create a more vibrant atmosphere which lacks badly.

I'd be ok with capping memberships but 50,000 is too little. 5k-7k is enough for general admission though so I'd support a ~54k cap. But if there's more 5k-7k left to the public after all the current season + in the wings members (who still want one by then of course) , then that's fine . I think there needs to be a balance between providing the option for lazy people to walk in, and rewarding loyal members + others who have been on the waiting list for years. No idea what the renewal /take up rates will be once the new stadium finally comes but am wondering if a solution when it comes to preventing empty member seats is 3 and 6 game memberships like other clubs have (and it boosts membership numbers)

Who wants to go to Subiaco oval to watch the football? You get packed in like sardines and thers no parking and everything costs the earth to buy.

It is a low grade stadium and an elephant of the past.

The crowds will increase at the new stadium AND when/if the Eagles start winning consistently again.

If we had a 60,000 seat stadium id sign up to be a member but most likely wouldn't go to any games

It's interesting that both the Dockers and eagles management have been pushing the gov't to limit seating capacity to 50000. They want to keep demand greater than supply to ensure that their profits remain. The government isn't buying into this luckily and it will still be 60000.

It's true all right... and yes reprehensible. They know that with a 60000 stadium there will be walkups galore and the eagles in the wings memberships wont be required and wont translate into full memberships.

Excluding the GWS game on Mother's Day and the fact we had 2 home games in a row which probably caught a few people by surprise, the rest of the crowds seem fine, with the issue being the 10% of wasted / empty seats.

A large chunk of this wastage I reckon put this down to how stupidly complicated it is to resell your members tickets, and people having busy lives can't be bothered.

I don't think I'm alone having multiple tickets... I'm in charge of 4 tickets... the resale process requires me to log into the ticket site 4 separate times and go through a 10 step process for each ticket. It frustrates me that people get paid to design such a terrible user experience.

I am of the opinion that memberships will drop with the 60k stadium. There will no longer be the need to renew for the half hearted. But corporate revenue will increase significantly.

Sitting on a park bench. So many WC members are fatties as well so you have to stand anytime someone wants to get a drink.

There are only in the wings members now because they can't get full seated memberships. The eagles have 55k odd members, with only 35k odd that are seated due to capacity.

An in the wings membership costs about $60 per year, yet a seated membership is anywhere between $300 and $600 per seat, so surely it would be in the clubs interest to have all their members seated?

Also with walk ups, doesn't the home team get the gate takings anyway (with the AFL getting a cut I'm sure)

Be nice if just about every home game wasn't on a Sunday afternoon. My son plays football at 1pm Sundays, it makes hard to get to the game if you want to be a good parent.

We've had consecutive home games in the past and the crowds weren't this low . The Port game's crowd was low, especially for a saturday evening game against a top side.
Yes the resale system is ridiculous (which is why we often just give them away to friends if we can't attend, rather than resaling) but even the public reserve allocation hasn't sold out

This description fitted Adelaide Crows membership to a tee, people 60 and 70 years old at Crows games at AAMI Stadium, seemed like the majority of the supporter base. Seems like a lot of the older supporters have dropped off due to restricted parking at Adelaide Oval and not being able to fire up their BBQs. Went on Thursday night to the Collingwood game and to see so many younger people was fantastic and they made a hell lot of noise. Hopefully a new stadium will refresh your membership with a younger generation of supporters.

The GWS game is an obvious outlier, other than that the crowds are fairly similar between the clubs but Freo's numbers are trending upwards whilst ours are reversing

They just want the status quo and for the oldies to continue having exclusive access. I can't stand negative people and this board is full of them.
