I know there are much bigger things to worry about, but it is quietly concerning me that the crowd numbers seem to be down, especially nowhere near the old crowds, where there were a minimum of 40,000 people.

Rd 2 - Sydney - 36,041
Rd 4- Carlton - 38,321
Rd 6 - Port - 40,371

Average : 38,244

We just got over 40K to the Showdown, but this was helped by Port supporters. Will we get 40K again this year? I don't think we will. Perhaps for Rd 22 for St Kilda, as (barring some miracle) it will be our last game for 2010 and therefore the last game for some veteran's retire, plus it could also be Maccas' 350th.

We need to get out there and support the boys -you can't just rock up when the team is flying. There are 3-game memberships now and alot of daily general public tickets on sale.

Ps: I am using this website for the crowds reference http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/tg-adelaide-crows

Should crack it for 40k Sat night v Bombers and Friday night v Cats. Apart from that all of our games have shizen times.

Rounds 4 and 6 were live on FTA TV. That fact alone makes it hard to compare to years past, although live coverage has been around a year or two now. We're going to have to get used to regularly having crowds under 40,000 competing against that sort of TV coverage. This week's home game is being shown on half hour delay.

The clubs cant complain against live against the gate. They have all voted on allowing GC and GWS in, who's sole purpose is to push TV rights money up. Also half of most clubs revenue is from TV rights money.

Off the top of my head I reckon our crowds were pretty poor in 2004, our last real bad season. Obviously losing can't be helping....

But its worth keeping in mind we haven't played a night game yet and they usually draw the best crowds.

Do you think this years Mothers Day crowd will be lower than last years? (which I think was our all time lowest attended game) considering how badly we are travelling atm?

I'd imagine so.

We suck, we're playing Richmond, and it's at a stupid time.

I went to that dopey 4:10pm game against the Roos last year - and it was some of the worst football I've ever seen.

Not to mention it was ****ing freezing!

Lucky to be 35K there Sunday, poor form, poor start time (people have work/school Monday) and Mothers Day go against it.

Easter Sunday..Sat afternoon ...Sat afternoon ..Mother's Day...

I go with a group of about ten ...and none of us have been able to get there this year yet.

Winning games = better crowds.

Mixture of all these really, when I saw our fixture list I was spewing, mostly Sunday games and always at shit times. We showed the AFL last year with the Essendon final, give us a decent time slot like you do your precious Victorian teams and we will turn up. And stop always giving us Easter Sunday, Mothers Day etc.

What does the quality of the game have to do with the timeslot? Our other twilight game last year was the Showdown and that was one of our best games of the year.

Personally, Sunday twilight is one of my favourite timeslots.

I still reckon we'll get a crowd of 35-36k (Mother's Day twilight isn't as bad as Mothers Day lunch time).

If we continue to lose and the supporters dont see change then expect the crowds to drop. Supporters are more inclined to go if they get to see a glimpse of the future, not drowning in the past.

As much as winning form likely has something to do with it, my recollection is that we regularly drew sub-40k crowds last year even when we were winning.

I'd love to see some statistics about how many of our members seats sit empty each match. I'll bet it accounts for at least half of the missing people.

We regularly sell out the stadium only to see 10,000 empty seats around the stadium. Ridiculous, really.

What does the quality of the game have to do with the timeslot?

Nothing. You read it wrong.

Merely comparing last year's crap game at that timeslot to this years crap game in the same timeslot.

At least it's not raining this Sunday. That's a plus.

Two reasons.

1. The Crows aren't winning.

2. No-one enjoys making the trek out to the concrete jungle at West Lakes. It is an absolute dive, takes an hour to get there from any respectable suburb and over an hour back. **** it off.

That never stopped people before....

but its always nice for people to jump on the bandwagon for some excuse for not attending

No. You don't understand.

Now that there is a very good chance another stadium will be built or Adelaide Ova re-done, people are letting their actions do the talking by not turning up. Obviously I am passionate about the club and will go watch them wherever but not every crows fan is as passionate as those on this site!!!

What - so people who "support" the Crows and "love" their footy are not going to games because in 4 or 5 years' time there might be a better stadium? Please. Shrug, you may be right, never underestimate the stupidity of the general public - but I doubt that this is a major factor in crowds.

Despite all the complaints about Footy Park, people have been turning up there in their 35-40,000s for years.

Footy Park may not be the most up to date stadium in Australia and a new facility may be needed - but it's not exactly Baghdad on the Lakes either, and using the quality of the stadium as an excuse for not going to the footy and supporting your team is just that - an excuse, and an excuse for being a soft impersonation of a supporter.

I think the major thing here is that the great majority of the seats at Footy Park are taken by season ticket holders, for many of whom going to the footy is just a routine that they will happily skip now and then if it's a but cold / looks like rain / might have to leave early after lunch / the dog needs a wash.

Meanwhile there are people stuck at home, watching on TV, would love to be there shouting for their team.

If the entire stadium was available for daily tickets, I reckon the crowds would be higher. And probably louder.

Just one other comment on the accessibility of Footy Park: Obviously everyone's situation is different, but I live 25 km away to the south, and I can drive there and be in my seat in about 1 1/4 hours. I could not get to a stadium in the city that fast by public transport, and probably even by car it would be no quicker.

Let's not kid ourselves that a city stadium would be somehow magically easier and quicker to get to.

(All that said, I am in favour of a new city stadium - just saying that some of the arguments are more myth than fact.)

Rubbish....
How slowly do you drive?
Or are you talking about Davoren Park or Hackam????

Until we see real changes at the club I really can't justify spending $200 every second week to go watch a club who puts "just competiting" ahead of winning premierships. If I wanted to do that, I could go to Noarlunga and watch South for half the price.

I'm at the game now, and usually arive an hour before the game, and there really isn't many people here.... Hopefully they'll rock up just before the bounce but we're easily in for our lowest home crowd for the year by the looks of things.
