Your thoughts?

How do you guys rate Douglas? Do you think he will be a 100% starter in the team and how is his pre season going?

Thanks in advance guys:thumbsu:

Even from Perth I think Douglas will start the year, its then up to him how he performs, but watching via tv he found the confidence/belief to play AFL in his last few games

Your thoughts?

Bloody good effort. But I'd prefer to see Johncock in defence

in a season of football there are a hell of alot of injuries. It is more then likely that 1 of either bock, stevens, mcgregor or perrie will be injured at some stage in the year. Hopefully not a serious injury but a litle niggle or something is certain to happen.
My point being that our depth in the big man department is not strong; personally i cannot see hudson, maric, meeson, or griffin playing in a key forward or defensive role as all of them lack skill and agility. That leaves gill, sellar and tippet as the only big men on our list with the speed and agility to play at a kpp post. Gill has not completed 1 training session since he has been at the crows with numerous hamstring, shoulder and calf strains. While Tippet has been in a neck brace and has not had a full pre-season under his belt. It is my understanding that he was beaten by sellar in the 3km time trial before christmas. It has been well noted how hard sellar has been pushed since that time (which i also think is ridiculous, but that is a different topic). Tippet has been unable to do this extra running because of his injury.
My question is that should sellar be given NAB cup games for him to atleast get a taste becuase at some stage during the year he is going to be called on to play. At this stage he is not even playing in the senoir side on friday night. Now either the kid has gotten worse from last year (which is impossible) or perhaps he is not been given a crack. After all it is hard to impress a coach when all you are doing is 1km runs.
thoughts........................

Weren't there question marks over Sellar's aerobic capacity prior to being drafted? No doubt his illness would have severely effected that, but regardless it needs to be much higher to play genuine KP at AFL level, hence a lot of fitness work. If he's doing a lot of fitness work, I suspect he will get a crack at some stage during the NAB Cup/Challenge series, if for no other reason, than to get his fitness up. But you're right in what you say, Adelaide's KP depth is pretty think atm, someone like Sellar may well be called upon at some stage during the year.

BTW how are Knights, Porplyzia and Pfeiffer going this pre-season, they likely to feature much in the best 22? All very talented IMO.

There is no wasy that Meeson lacks Skill and Agility. This is one of his strengths.

He just needs to improve his ruck work at the stoppages.

In some games that I saw him last year he did things that you would expect
from a ruck rover.

B: Bassett - Rutten - Pfeiffer
HB: Mattner - Stevens - Johncock
C: Reilly - Goodwin - Douglas
HF: Burton - Perrie - Ricciuto
F: McLeod - Welsh - Bock
1R: Hudson - van Berlo - Thompson
Int: Edwards, Maric, Doughty, Porplyzia.

E: from Shirley, Meesen, McGregor, Torney, Bode, Knights.

Apologies to Shirley who is a good 'run-with' player, with good inside strength and quick hands but i feel we can cover his position well. If a midfielder was injured (esp VB, Porp, Doughty) he would be next in.

Bode, as a tough but not quick small forward, did all that could be asked of him in the second half of 07, but again his position can be well covered while allowing for more flexibility and skill elsewhere.

Debates on Kenny will only be decided by his pre-season form. Same goes for the second ruck position.

I wouldn't mind seeing Knights on a wing but without injury he is not quite in the 22.

Torney has been left out in favour of Pfeiffer who can perform the same role while injecting some youth in a defence which will need a young 'tallish' utility to come on when Bassett and Torney retire in the next couple years.

For anyone who puts Douglas as an emergency must have rocks in their head. Anyone care to remember his form last year for Glenelg before getting injured?????

Yeah i would think Douglas will be in the side from the start. Is total class and has definitely bulked up after seeing him at Norwood the other night.

Was a lot harder to pick a side than i would have thought but here goes:

FF:Burton Welsh Bode

HF: Mcleod Perrie Thompson

C: Reilly Ricciuto Mattner

HB: Torney Bock Van Berlo

FB: Johncock Rutten Basset

Ruck: Hudson Edwards Goodwin

Int: Maric Doughty Shirley Douglas

Its probably a fairly conservative side but its what i think they might atleast start with. Really wanted to find spots for Stevens and Porps but im sure injuries will sort that out. Would like to see a bit of Hinge and Pheifer at this level aswell. Was really impressed with Pheifer especially at Norwood the other night. Im sure Knights will get some games aswell but im not convinced he has taken the next step yet.
Im sure Mcgregor will play the bulk of games aswell and as much as i used to love him, i really dont have confidence in him after last season. Keeping his feet in atleast one contest will go a long way to restoring that belief in the once mighty K-mac.
