Remember, it's only based on their output for the AFC. Wellman only played about 34 games. Honestly couldn't think of another Full Back - we really haven't had/needed many (good ones).

Sugar at a dollar is criminal, I agree.

This was fun to do. Here are my initial thoughts - might come back and shuffle it around when I have more time:

- The no-brainers which I built the team around were Hart, McLeod, Ricciuto, and Modra. Four of the most brilliant players to pull on the South Aussie hoops.
- It was challenging to work out where you would have to compromise a little on talent. The cheapies and the expensive players would have to go somewhere. Focus on the midfield, the engine room? Build a great forward line like we have today? But forward potency hasn't won us a flag just yet, and that classy midfield didn't win us a flag in 2005-6 either. We won two flags partly because we had the stingiest defence in the league in those years. But a pure defensive team doesn't win premierships.
- I was considering downgrading on Betts, but I decided that Bernie was good enough on the wing, and when in doubt, put quality up forward.
- Had to settle with good old Perrie at centre half forward because some of my players like Roo, Macca and Mods were simply non-negotiable.

As I said, might revisit this later today or tomorrow.

Premium club legends wherever possible and then the best undervalued players in their positions after that. Bassett at $2 makes me think people forgot how good he was. Betts not at club legend status yet but we really have struggled with small forwards. Goodwin, Rehn, Sloane, Thompson the unlucky ones to miss out.

Simply cannot have a team without Roo or Macca. I wasn't going to spend big on rucks. Call me crazy but I think rucks are overrated in the modern game - Hawthorn just won 3 flags with Hale and McEvoy. I left out the great Anthony Modra from this one because I felt Darren Jarman was more than an adequate substitute and essentially won our two flags off his own boot. I wanted to have as many quality options up forward as possible - not just relying on a couple of stars.

Not sure if you could win a premiership (in a 12-a-side AFL) with this budget though. Maybe with 5 or 10 dollars more.

I'll come up with more alternate teams later. This is bloody fun. Kudos to The Weed.
