If that's the case, then the price for a tall endurance player such as Walker who can play wing, half back, forward and midfield just went up. I reckon that clubs will select a pure ruckman plus a follower and utility/midfielder as the substitute. Few clubs would pick a tall as the substitute given the restrictions on where talls can play. A club could be caught short if they didn't name a tall as one of their three interchange players. That's how the AFL are planning to reduce the speed of the game and the congestion. Mids could be substituted off for a fresh runner, but talls will be needed to maintain your structure.

Nothing's changed.

The Crows could rotate Tippett or McKernan through the ruck whilst Jacobs/Maric takes a breather.

Tactics will be more important than ever.

Given the rule changes, it'd be preferable to have a more mobile first ruck - we've already got a Jacobs type in Maric.

Anyway, all the mail from trade week says 2nd rounder for Jacobs - just a matter of when Carlton realises that's all they'll get.

I only read the last page, and it appears that I missed quite a thread. As for the Jacobs trade, I agree that we will get more than a 2nd round pick. It's not like the Crows are the only team that has shown interest in him. If the Crows try to low-ball us (yes, a 2nd round pick would be a low-ball offer), I'm sure there will be another team or two willing to better that.

Endurance is something that can be trained into a player. Tap work, skill and determination aren't as easy to learn

The reason Carlton are playing hardball is because he is a quality young ruckman who could play for you for eight or so years.

Endurance is something that can be trained into a player. Tap work, skill and determination aren't as easy to learn

Exactly, just ask Hampson. And anyway his endurance is already pretty good, he's a good contested mark and a decent sports scientist at a club will get a bit more speed from him.
