I reckon you’d struggle to find a club outside of Richmond with such a significant lack of depth of players in their prime years.

We rely on players entering their twilight to continue to perform or young players to jump out of the box
Majority of our best 22 middle tier was unavailable today. This is everyone 26 and younger.

Midfield were witches hats
I expected a large loss so was pretty calm, but watching that in qtr3 really got my dandruff up. It was the total.lack change up by the mids after the first three. Try something different, Boyd, just smash it forward, they were feeding off his taps, just pilot it to our mids advantage to half the contest.
With 6 6,6 it was a walk into the 50 and a goal every time.

Feels like the season is going to be done before we get players back. Why can't we have one year where we don't get shat on?
Yes, we will be 1-4 or 0-5 before we get a full team.
Once we got the preseason injuries we were done with the appalling draw we always get.

who likes context?

last year, Sandringham missed finals.

Today, we had 6 players plus Boyd who played the majority of the VFL season last year against a side with the smallest injury list in the AFL. We may not like it but it went the way it was expected to go

10 goal losses are unacceptable. Losing is part of footy, capitulating and an inability to stem the flow shows a worrying lack of intensity.

You don’t accept the actions that lead to them and you educate. If there’s a pattern of behavior it’s a real problem.

It is incredibly challenging for young players to shift the momentum when other teams are trouncing them. That only comes with experience and through education. Unfortunately today the demographic of our side was bottom 4 demographic

So what’s worse:

the side we took to Adelaide. Expecting a belting and getting one.

The side Freo have built and being torn apart by the cats.

Port - similar to Freo with top 4 ambitions and being ripped apart.

North playing at home to a side with a mountain of injuries like us and still losing.

West coast - who the media touted as a side that should win 7-8 games and currently looking like a rabble.

In context of round 1. We were bad. But the below all worse than us.

disappointed but not suprised.

Was so disappointed to see jones named, and he did nothing to prove me wrong. He is not part of our future, and he doesn't contribute enough now in the present, so why continue to play him?

Boyd tried hard all day and got better as the game went on, but you can see why he has never been on a list.

I'm worried that Wilkie is going to be to worried about his man now, and will be less effective as an intercept defender, due to having no help down there.

I thought windy tried hard all day, but he looks like his ceiling is just going to be a scrapper.

Byrnes similar, but just not physical and strong enough over the ball. Skills are poor, adds very little.

We can't roll cordy out again, he is getting slower and less mobile by the day, surely keeler could of done a similar job today?

Hill was embarrassing, Clark treacle slow and not fit enough (shock).

Caminiti has gone backwards, and I don't get the hype with schoenmaker. He lacks agility and is slow, doesn't defend well.

We're rebuilding. We don't bat deep. We've got bad injuries and we played a lot of blokes (list cloggers) that won't be part of the next finals push. What did people expect?

Crom are picking up FAs on $650k plus to make a play for top 6 and above having not played finals in 6 years with a coach walking the plank.

It's round 1 FFS

Ours is supported more because we had a stadium deal that crippled the club. The AFL knew this.
We also get supported more because we don't get any marquee games (no - Maddies match and Pride round aren't Marquee games).

We get supported more because we don't play on Prime Time very often, nor do we get many FTA games.

That's what the equalization measures are for, to even up the financials for the teams - because not all teams are treated equally. And that's okay.

It just means people can't turn around and complain that North and St Kilda get more money from the AFL than a Collingwood or a West Coast do. They have significantly more, and better opportunities to make money than St Kilda does.
I think you make some good points but omit some key ones.

The marquee time slots are only one side of the story, and doesn't totally explain our different position to a Collingwood or West Coast. The AFL is a commercial enterprise at its core and is going to schedule games in order to maximise their returns. Being a smaller club, the Saints are disadvantaged when lobbying for marquee games and prime time slots because we won't pull in the same crowd as a bigger club. We have to give the AFL a reason to give us those games with either good on-field results or an attractive style of play. Right now we have neither. Consequently, while we languish in our Sunday twilight time slots, the AFL needs to give us more money than other clubs for us to stay afloat. It's a vicious catch 22 to get stuck in: we aren't playing well enough to get prime time spots and marquee games which pull big crowds, but our lack of those games likely contributes to free agents not wanting to play for us, which contributes to poor on field results.

Followed on from Port with the same lack of effort. Very worrying. Very un Ross Lyon. Boris might need reining in.

Well I'm going glass half full

10 goals loss but they kicked 21.9

We had 8 less scoring shots - 30 to 22

They were FULL STRENGTH in Adelaide

We had a 1/3 of our starting line missing with several underdone and three (3) 1st gamers

Hall & Macrae both positives

PLENTY of improvement to come
Thank you for taking the time to write out what I couldn’t be bothered too after years of persistent optimism.
