Crows to feature in SANFL trials
www.afc.com.au

Adelaide has the option of playing 10 senior-listed players in SANFL trials this weekend.

Ian Perrie, Jason Porplyzia, Bernie Vince, Luke Jericho and Kris Massie are among the Crows cleared by the AFL to play because they have had injury-restricted pre-season campaigns.

Kurt Tippett, who played in the last three Crows NAB Challenge matches, also was given the go-ahead to play his first game for West Adelaide because he had limited game time.

The list also includes youngsters James Sellar, Darren Pfeiffer and David Mackay – and the four rookies Andrew McIntyre, Greg Gallman, Rhys Archard and James Turner.

Injured defender John Hinge, who has not played since dislocating a thumb four weeks ago, is eligible to play for Glenelg if cleared by Crows medical staff.

West Adelaide have a bye this weekend, so who will Kurt Tippett line up for?

The Glenelg v North trial has been moved to 2pm Saturday at Prospect due to cricket finals being played at Glenelg.

I was at the Norwood v Woodville West Torrens game. The Eagles got off to a good start and looked well on their to winning, but Norwood performed much better in the second half and eneded up taking the game by 40 points.

Final Score:
Norwood 3.2, 4.5, 9.8, 17.9 111
WWT 5.5, 8.9, 10.9, 10.11 71

I kept a close eye on Bernie Vince and Darren Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer played on the wing for the entire game. His first half wasn't that great, but he found more of the ball in the second half. Vince rotated between the centre and and HF. He seemed to be going everywhere for most of the game. He started the fourth quarter on the bench and made his way on about half way through. I noticed he's a bit of a conservative player; kind of just floats around. Pfeiffer was the only one to score between the two. He kicked a goal and a behind in the 2nd quarter. Their stats were:

Bernie Vince: 22 possessions (15 kicks, 7 handballs), 6 marks, 5 tackles
Darren Pfeiffer: 21 possessions (14 kicks, 7 handballs), 8 marks

Bernie Vince (#17)

I actually thought Vince was quiet; I didn’t notice him much at all. And then I see his stats and I’m pretty much in disbelief. He didn’t have much of an impact in my opinion regardless of his possession count. He had a few disappointing clangers by foot, including kicking it straight to Pfeiffer, and the Eagles supporters near me also pointed out how quiet he was when he finally touched the ball. A very minimal impact for the amount of possessions he had.

I thought Pfeiffer was great, and I thought his second quarter was quite impressive Crow*Girl. He had about 6 possessions in the second term and kicked a very nice goal from about 40 out. His third quarter was probably a little quiet however he finished strong and from memory would’ve had 7 or 8 possessions in the last quarter. What impressed me most was his elusiveness; he managed to break tackles with ease and some of his work in close was great. He definitely showed a touch of class on a few occasions.

Out of the two I thought Pfeiffer was the more impressive. ;) But Norwood played great, a huge improvement on our game against Port two weeks back.

I thought they both had a minimal impact on the outcome of the game, but Pfeiffer probably was the better one, considering he scored. I thought Pfeiffer's best quarter was the third, especially in the first half of the quarter. Does he usually play on the wing?

Hey Drum was the Eagles team full strength? And were we full strength? How did our new boys look?
The Eagles had quite a few players missing, including Lindsay, but Norwood were great. There was a huge improvement from our game against Port. For example we went into attack a lot more direct, our tackling was an improvement, and our skills were sharper. We didn’t put teammates under pressure by handballing to stationary men like we have for a number of years now. That was probably the highlight for me.

Our forward where dangerous and Hill would’ve kicked 5 or 6. Bown was also very impressive, especially after half time. He seemed to mark everything that came his way. Thomas was close to BOG and kept winning the footy all day. If only we had him we would’ve had a great young player as well as Hentschel. :( McGuinness was the best player on the ground from either side though; he had about 30 possessions from defence and he took some courageous marks. He was just cleaning up every time the Eagles went forward. Pretty much everyone contributed though which was pleasing.

Crow*Girl, Pfeiffer plays pretty much everywhere. His best position is probably the wing where he played today. He spent plenty of time up forward last year though, as well as having a few tasks across the backline. A very versatile player.

What is the go with Pfeiff? Didn't get much game time in the trials but looks to be a very lively type...

Will he get a game at all this year? He is built very nicely that is for sure.

I’d like to think Pfeiffer will play a few AFL games this year Gets! He has all the tools required to be a great player at the top level and I guess it’s all about finding consistency with Norwood. If he strings together a handful of solid games with the Legs, and there is a spot available with the Crows, then I would think he’ll get the nod. I expect him to play a couple of games this year, and I think he needs to as he is a relatively high draft pick with exceptional talent.

I feel he is underrated though as all the talk is about Douglas, Knights and now even Griffin, but Pfeiffer sneaks under the radar. ;)

I like Pfeiffe and was surprised that he got such little game time in the trials because he seemed to perform well when on the ground. Would expect a few games this year.
Did anyone go watch Souths Vs. Tiges? Would quite like a Sellar report if possible.

It's funny that Drummond is saying how great Pfeiffer was yet Crow Girl said he was nothing special and then Drummond says Vince was carp... a bit of bias showing there?

McIntyre was alright for North again, he did get bumped off a bit easily in a marking contest but the guy he was on was a fair unit. Disappointing performance by North but the Roosters, Eags and Centrals have all been rubbish so far in trials so it doesn't mean much.

Alleway took the greatest trial mark in history too.

North played Glenelg and I was there but didn't really take much notice of which Glenelg players were playing well as i was sinking piss quite heavily. There was no mention of his performance on SAFooty either so he either didn't do much or didn't play.

Just checked Glenelg's stats too and no Sellar so he must have been out.

Sellar was listed as playing in the ressies for Glenelg but I didn't get to see any of that match.

McIntyre was easily North's best. He beat Willits in the air and on the ground. Held Willits to 4 marks, no goals and is noticeably now running out from defence a lot more than he did last year and setting up a lot of play. Still needs to bulk up and improve disposal but will be a key defender in the AFL.

The less said about Perrie the better, 1 goal about 3 points and 3 marks.

Hinge played okay in the middle. Looks a solid SANFL player but doesn't appear to have anything special about him.

Yeah I forgot about Perrie, he was extremely average.

I didn't see any of the Bs either as I got there just after it finished, no idea how Sellar went in that game then.

I doubt Hinge will play any AFL, he has shown nothing really since the Crows picked him up.

Should Perrie be chosen this week given that we are short of big men BUT he is really struggling for form, or should the Crows wait until he finds some form before he is selected?

He is our decoy, so yes pick him and let him take their # 2 defender.

Yeah i can't argue with that. There are more pack situations in the SANFL i feel and this is where Perrie struggles, he plays a different role in the Crows and he seems to handle that Ok. The Crows have no other options so they will end up picking him and I expect to see a different Sarge next week.

Wondering if anyone knows how West Adelaide went in Tassie and if Tippett played, and if so, did he appear on the results sheet, goals, best players?

Cheers
