I guess he has to start somewhere, and I would like to see how he goes against Tarrant but I am not very confident with this match up. Tarrant has been playing consistently great footy this year and as such will require a high quality defender which is why I think Hart will get the job. Hart has played well on Tarant in the past.
I believe we should not upset our team balance with Smart being out. If Hart played on Tarrant, then we would probably need to play Biglands on Fraser when he is a forward, then come off when he isn't. It would be rather messy & take an edge of our likely ruck dominance (which is not a good idea given the midfield could be the key). Granted Tarrant is in good form, but IMO give Massie 1st crack & just make sure we have a backup plan if it doesn't work!

After listening Goody on 5AA today I am 99.9% certain that Hart will get Tarrant. Carey and Burns will definetly play even after missing today's main training session. Goody said he is 95% sure he will play.:D

I think the height difference is a concern there. Bassett must give away at least 10cm?

I agree Bassett often struggles against players where he is giving away a fair bit of height. Last week against Kangaroos he was beaten in the first half by Petrie. Last years prelim final, he was beaten by Fraser.

Hart will almost certainly get Tarrant

McGregor will almost certainly get Rocca

These are two match-ups that have worked for us in the past

Bassett would then get either one of Molloy or Fraser who plays in the forward pocket - most likely Molloy.

Begley would then take Smarty's role and get either of these, most likely Fraser, if the Pies go for 4 talls on the ground at once, with one on a HFF. While he is tall, Fraser is a soft footballer.

Goody said it all tonight on 5AA when he said that the best way to deal with the Collingwood forwards is to deprive them of opportunities by winning the mid-field.

I think Collingwood's current problems relate mostly to their mid-field not performing which in turn has put great pressure on their back lines.

Goody's right. Win the mid-field - win the game.

hey!! i can relate to a match-up like that. :)

I turned green with envy until I realized that Dave had said cms not inches Noddy!! :D

News broadcasts tonight suggest that carey, Burns and Goodwin did not complete training today, but Carey and Burns should be Ok to play.

Carey seems to struggle after playing at Telstra Dome. Thankfully we only have one more game there, hopefully this will mean he will have less niggles during the year and recover from matches faster during the week.

I am worried...with Smart out our defensive match ups are crucial. They beat us in the prelim last year due to the fact they had more height and strength in their key positions across the ground. I'm not too confident with Biglands in defence, he seems to get beaten there at times. Massie and Begley in defence would be very interesting.

Jerome

Looks like you guys will be right with the Tarrant - Hart matchup. I just hope now that we play a mid size player on the 4th Collingwood tall, as I don't believe it is in our best interests to have Biglands in defence - robbing our rucks ... particularly given than winning the midfield will be the key.

According to WW-Torrens line up for this week Crowell will line up for the Crows against Collingwood.

Does that mean that Begley will spend another week in SANFL??????

An injustice for Begley if that is the case.

Crowell may come in for Gallagehr who didn't get much of a run

Ruccis said yesterday it would be Crowell or Doughty in for GAllageher

unless Goodwin has not been named

I'm hoping Crowell is only an emergency.

Begley and especially Doughty deserve a run. We need to find out what Begley can and cannot do.

South has a bye this week so I think Doughty will come in for Gallagher.

Given the injury clouds over a few players, might they not actually need an emergency who can come in at the last minute?

WWT play on Saturday day right?

Could it be that Crowell is injured Stiffy? Admittedly there has been no mention of this anywhere, so probably not.

Crowell would be very lucky to be chosen, be cause if my memory is correct, he was only named as an emergency for the Eagles last week, wasn't he??? I know he played but somebody must have pulled out if my memory is correct.

Must be the old team balance thing again with the 4 Collingwood forward talls we keep talking about, although the weather forecast is making that look a less threatening option.

I definitely would make the change of Doughty for Gags.

Crowell is listed as out on WWT site with (Crows) next to his name.

As for team balance, Begley and Crowell are the same height so...

Can you tell I don't want Crowell to play? :(

Believe me I am as surprised as you are and believe that Crowell hasn't earned his spot. Usually if a player is listed as an emergency he is also listed in the line up with his SANFL side. If Crowell can get back into form of the 2nd half of last year he would be more than handy contributor. I would have prefered him to show some good form for the Eagles before getting the promotion.

Nah mate, Crowell is being listed as out (Crows) which suggests that he is a definite starter against Collingwood.

I agree Doughty should come in for Gallagher. The official sites of Sturt, South and Norwood lack information on their line ups. One would suggest that Crowell is a replacement for Smart and it would be out of Begley, Doughty and Gallagher for the remaining spot. Gallagher needs a full game in SANFL IMHO and Daoughty's form has been more consistent than Begley's. If we are selecting on form then Doughty should be in.;)

Don't know about Begley deserving it

Only played two games for sturt since his injury.

Plenty to prove yet.

Fair point. Crowell has not been making the earth move either though.

Perhaps it was a case of better the devil ya know for the selectors? I said before in relation to Parker that you take the risks against the Dogs or Cats not last years grand finalists. I guess the same applies here.

All will be revealed tonight I spose.

I've been visiting a little since the Showdown, but I've realised that if Crows talk doesn't involve Port, it's about as interesting as slicing off a finger.
