I can design one but I'm not running it, I already run two :p >=)
I could help you designing it but I am not running it. Takes too much time but ant has the right idea in mind IMHO.

PS. the help would have to take a while as I am VERY busy at the moment. I can see you have already made a very good start on it

I've got an idea for a design on paper that I drew this morning while waiting for lunch, and from the look of it I'd say a drop-down menu is probably the kind of navigation I'll use. I'll probably split it into these categories:

MAIN: Home, About, Site Staff, Contact
PLAYERS: Squad, Coaches, Draft, Injuries, Past Players
CLUB: Details, History, Records, Legends, B&F Winners, AAMI Stadium
SEASON: Home & Away, Tables, Finals, Wiz-hard Cup, TV Listings
STATS: Leading scorer and so on
SANFL: AFC players, Home & Away, Tables, Club Links

etc., any more suggestions are more than welcome and as far as the name goes, at this stage "As The Crows Fly" seems like the best one.
I think you got the structure right. I see you are sticking to the "3 clicks rule" :)

Now there's a good idea.

As others have said, it's not entirely the club's fault, it's the stupid approach the AFL have taken with "one size fits all" through Telstra. Typical example of an out of touch organisation that doesn't understand how the internet (should) work.

Unoffical site would be good but why should the supporters have to do this? The club site should be able to cater for all needs - if the club actually had control over it.

Here's an idea (listening, Matty R?) - Maybe the AFC is contractually obliged to run its official site through the Tesltra deal, but does that actually prevent them from providing support, financial or otherwise, to a supporters' group web site? ;) And I don't mean the "AFC Supporters' Group" (cheer squad), I mean supporters in general with some nominated people or volunteers running the show with support from the club.

Domain names themselves are pretty cheap - like $100 to register and $100 or so per year (approx; it's been a while since I looked at this).

The real cost is in the hosting. You have to have a decent server and most importantly internet bandwidth, and that costs $. Skimp on the capacity and your site is too slow, and people don't bother.

Still, it doesn't have to be a massive cost - some individuals or a dedicated group could pay it, but the club could pay it without a second thought and allow the group to focus their energies 100% on running the site instead of raising money to fund it.

Has anyone noticed that the amount of articles (for the off-season) being pumped out by Matty Robran and friends seems greatly improved recently. Certainly the best of all the web sites associated with afl.com.au

We criticise when things are bad but I reckon we also need to give credit when improvement is shown and afc.com.au has been markedly better in recent weeks in terms of news articles

this leads me to another question
what domain name will you use ?

is there a cost associated with say Crowsfans.com.au ??

if so we could do a "fundrasier" for the cost of the site ?

I registered a website addy last year through http://www.netregistry.com.au

Its cost me $33 per year for 2 years to register the name. I don't think you can use a .com.au name for this sort of site. You have to be a business and have an ABN for a .com.au site, maybe try crowsfans.net

As for web space, I took up The Plan from http://addaction.net/specials.html and pointed the webspace to my newly registered domain name

Indeed, updates have been good. Can't be too positive they might get big heads.

About time too.

Now all they have to do is work on getting more 'facts' (ie 'Perrie debuted in 2000' [sic]) correct.
