The big news and trend this off season is the consistent resigning of talent who would be desired at other clubs, we havent had anyone stalling or playing the mid season or end of season tactics to hedge and try for a better deal or another club. This yells massive confidence inside the clubs walls with existing players and they are the ones who really know if there is real promise and culture building or just hot air from the PR department
I am sure the footy department is writing strong deals to get the players to commit but its worth the investment to pull the group in tight and give the team surety and longevity. Shaw, Matera, Lemmens etc have a big hill to climb this year and its up to them because there wont be any free rides due to lack of depth in 2017 so their future is in their hands which is how it should be
Gary is the only mercenary now and he doesnt need to have buy in to have a big year form wise he just needs to be healthy and left alone to prepare the way he does best, he will be outside the core group and culture though and cannot see him part of us after this year which is OK
well we have made some very real strides forward and we are becoming a side with an identity at least of young men and some tough mature recruits but believe it or not we do need some good old fashioned luck with close wins and injuries to get some momentum and belief early in 2017 - I am a believer though

Thurls....you know that 'luck' thing you mentioned....so on the money! We've really had none! No close game wins, no come from behind snatches, and we've never really blown a team off the park...ever! If we've won, it's taken every flukking ounce of energy and playing to our limits to get it done...RED LINING....always seems to be such hard work!!! Not suggesting that winning games should be easy....but man, I'd just love us to be in absolute dominating control from the opening bounce one day...you know what I mean???

Only one of what?the only one I can think of is the Richmond win when campaigner kicked the winner

Got yaWe were pretty lucky in our first win. Come back from about 7 goals down and Westhoff missed a shot after the siren
There you go....our FIRST win...such a long time ago
Yes, the Saints match is the ONLY game I can recall where we totally OWNED a team last year (Perhaps FREO in the west also...)

Let's hope so, would be a great boon for the club and supporters. Rocket has been a little hit and miss in this area in the pastMiller, May and Martin all poised to re-sign in the next month according to Rocket on the website.

I was there!and GIVING it to my mates behind the port cheer squad! The lads were estatic in their victory lap around the ground
Watched that game the other day , you forget just how good D.Swallow is , was a star in the 2nd half of that game.
The truth is win a few close games and other clubs start to get nervous. The Hawks do this all the time not because they're superior but because the other clubs start to look in the rearview mirror.Got yaWe were pretty lucky in our first win. As we gain respect the clubs will start worry, at the moment we have no respect because we haven't earnt it. That's all about to change in 2017
I wonder if the prospect of free agency will be a factor in his decision. Jack is entering his fourth season in the AFL and the AFLPA is pushing hard to reduce the number of years required at a club to be eligible for free agency to seven. So if that goes through then Jack might be inclined to sign a three-year extension so he comes out as a free agent in 2020. Nat Fyfe did the same thing three years ago.Dover said another long-term deal would be unlikely and suggested a two- to three-year contract would be more probable.
What kind of salary do you think Alex Rance is on?I'd hope it's not similar to Lynch's for a fullback!!
For you, I am replying to the GA reference, mercenary..? WTF, name any 1 player that has been with Suns from the outset, who has given more in regards to their very limited "shelf life" as an elite athlete. The big news and trend this off season is the consistent resigning of talent who would be desired at other clubs, we havent had anyone stalling or playing the mid season or end of season tactics to hedge and try for a better deal or another club.
