B&F - Akkadakka

Goal - C. Banno ( Therry )

Cheers, Chump.

I don't have much to say on this forum but here's my 2 bobs worth........

Therry
Williamstown
Banyule
Ivanhoe

Peninsula
Westbourne
Glen Eira
Yarra Valley
OP's
Eltham

Unlike my other 2 colleagues, (Wamba and Chump) I will stick my neck out and say that the Hoes will make the finals for the 3rd year running.....
So where are they usually tipped to finish anyway???

You'll need to leave out Keem Akka as my mail is he's not playing (anyone from Yarra feel free to get on and correct me if that's not the case).

Wamba, as usual your mail is correct, Keam has gone to play on the Mornington Peninsula.

Wandered past Yarra Valley a couple of weeks ago for their practice and one thing that struck me was their amount of numbers. 7 on the bench in the 1's and 8 in the 2's. The Drew brothers didn't play. As it was the first time I had seen them without Keam they looked a little lost going forward. They kept going long but with no Keam they struggled.

Wamba / Chump, will be wandering down to Binnak Park this week to see the arch rivals play. (that is of course after my early morning duties;)) Hope to see you there for a beer.

Doesn't seem to be much happening on here today lads. Usually the forums are buzzing on the days leading up to Rd 1.

Anyway I might as well have a crack at picking the winners this week.

Ivanhoe to beat OP by 6 goals. Big Ange Pace to kick 8.

Banyule to show Yarra Valley what it's like in D2. Banyule by 5 goals.

Eltham to get its first win in D2 over GE. 3 Goals.

Willy v Therry is a very interesting clash. Could go either way, but I will go with Therry in a close one - 5 points. Only because Willy might be suffering from a 'premiership hangover' as we did last year.

Peninsula v OW. We will beat about $5 to win this one. I reckon we have done the work pre-season to get over the line though. OW by 11 points, mainly because I can't bear the thought of a two-hour trip home after a loss.

Good luck to all this weekend.

Akka, As you know im into bold predictions.

I think that Peninsula V OW could be a G/f preview.

I personally am hoping so. OW need to pull themselves into the same division as Werribee, just to keep the local derby alive!

Time to get in some tips for D2:

Ivanhoe to scrape in by 1 point against OP's.
Banyule over yarra by 10 goals
Eltham over Glen eira due to home ground by 3 goals. Hollywood to kick 7.
Willy v Therry. Match of the day. Therry to announe their arrival as a Premiership threat by 6 goals. Bannister to slot through 9 big ones.
Peninsula v OW. Payze to get Peninsula over the line by a goal despite another dominant, starring role from Brett Connors.

Having said that, things could go either way having no real form guide to go by this early.

Best of luck to all!!!

My tips

Ivanhoe over parade 15 points
glen eira should be too tall for eltham and welcome them to d3 by 4 goals
Willy therry match of the round, willy unvailing the flag, should be a good day but therry to much power down forward by 4 goals.
Peninsula should be tooo good at home over ow, big ask to get a win all the way down mornington.
Banyule should win by avbout 8 goals against yarra valley!

OP's V Hoes - a very even contest. OP's to be better than last year and a good game against Mernda last week. Both clubs still missing plenty I feel and as such hard to pick a winner for mind. Both clubs to play a few kids and hoes with a few new faces to replace a few old hacks. Hoes in a cliff hanger at the Watsonia North ground. 2 points .....if they kick straight.

Banyule V Yarra - Bears to kick start a big season for them. Too slick at home with some good young pace into the line up and a few of the old heads playing clubbies and finally investing in the youth;)
The bears look to have lost some goal kicking power if reports are true on Drapac ( gone ) Gafer (gone) and Scotty P having a run with the wheelchair brigade. Time for youth and some new heads to fill the void. I think they can by 23 points

Eltham V Glen E - the 'Tham by 14 points at home - the big boy to do some damage in the front half as GE have not ( in the past ) had a full back who has done consistently well against a strong FF. Matty to chalk up his first victory as coach in D2.
GE get a very good player back this year - N. Astapenko, but I hear on the grape vine have lost a few too. The ruck dual will be worth watching.

Willy V Therry - second best game of the round. Willy's pace and movement against a 'new improved' and bigger Therry. If Madden, Banno, McWhinney and new boy Rees get enough of the ball it could be a big shoot out. I rate Willy though and they really can play their home ground very well. Will run hard from half back and hit up targets very well - closer than a few think, but I have been caught up in the pre-season hype too - so Therry - 13 points.

OW - Penninsular - match of the round for mind. For all the expectation of the pirates ( me too ) and where they will finish - I don't subscribe to teams coming down automatically smashing a previously lower placed club. Now doubt they ' should ' be highly fancied - but i want to have a look and see where they are at. Hutton is a big loss - gun. But, with a fit Connors connection and a better preseason I expect OW to move up a gear or two. They play the ground well - it's a long, long drive and I think it will be close. The only question mark over OW is ......have they got the same goal kicking power that served them so wellin the past? Hutton - Gone, Horsbough (?), Jekka (?), Sammy Collins ( Gun ...?). this puts more pressure on the very good mid-field to score more heavily. Pirates just 10 points ....... Akka BOG ....welcome back.

Good luck to all - hopefully injury free .........and lets get it on !!!!

Cheers, Chump.

Hey Mystery,
Heard Moylan has done his knee.
How is he holding up? Would have been pretty disappointed no doubt.

yes this is true moylan did his knee in the first few minutes of our second praccy. He is holding up as well as can be, feel very sorry for him as he played a great 1st praccy. It would be very painful for anyone coming of a pre season and just wanting to have a kick to do such an injury which puts you out for the year.

Yeah a shame.
Hopefully he can get back to playing good footy. At least he is naturally fit so fitness shouldn't be an issue upon returning.

old paradians a big suprise today!

Yep the Hoes got well and truly pantsed on Saturday!

Was impressed with the amount of run that Parade had (had a vastly different line up to the Mernda praccy match) and was less than impressed with the Hoes who have some hard work to do.

Having said that we did expect to start slowly, just not quite at snail's pace:p

Excellent game of footy @ the Fearon on Saturday. Particularly for a round 1 encounter. There would have been plenty of sore bodies yesterday. Willy held a slight advantage all day, but were severely challenged by a fast-finishing Therry in the last 10 - 15 minutes of the match. Definitely two teams who will be challenging come September. Willy very pleased with what will prove to be a big win in the context of the season; interesting that plenty on this forum were on board the Therry bandwagon....Must also say that the game was played tough but fair, no incidents at all.
Although it no longer suits our style of game, we are always tough to beat at home.
Special mention to the large Therry contingent who stayed for an ale or two after the game...well done, guys.

Ivanhoe notorious for slow starts to the season. But Saturday was definitely a big wake-up call for the boys from the Boulevard.
Parade were very impressive. Sage was unstoppable up forward with 10 majors. (A very good kick for goal.) Mind you the lack of pressure from the Hoes midfield made it tough for the backmen playing on him.

I noticed Dan Madden is playing this year. How is his fitness holding up these days?

Any report from the Peninsula & Old Westbourne game?

Saw the game from a Westbourne perspective, Peninsula will be clearly early favourites. For those that were D2 last year I would rate them close to the level of St Leos emmaus of last year maybe not quite the midfield class but plenty of soldiers who contribute.

Qtr by Qtr scores tells the story West jumped big time 10 to 1 in the first no coming back from there. Scoreline shows next 3 qtrs to be a fairly even contest 14.7 pen to West 12.4.

West got there backline match ups right with O'keefe doing a great job in nullifying Payze (clearly will be in the top 2 or 3 forwards/players) after he kicked 3 in the first 10 minutes.

No 3 for Pen Rees i think quality half forward will cause many headaches.

No 4 in the middle is good in a clearance won many, not overly blessed with natural skill but works extremely hard.

Ensure your wingers and half forwards are very accountable at stoppages as Pen are well drilled in releasing backwards to there wingers/hb.

Domminant ruck may assist in nullifying there middle men as Pens ruck No.12 is a workhorse but by no means a good tap ruckmen.

West have work to do, will be competitive along with the other 8 pushing for the 4. Have written Glen eira off.

Mudflap, was the Westbourne line up much different from last year? Obviously Hutton has gone but any new faces of note?

Very different lineup V&CP. Hutton obviously the glaring omission along with our premiership captain Cade Lever, who is o/s but didnt play much last year anyway. Chalmers, Morrisey are also not playing. Our improvement will come from the guys that played underdone last year, there were quite a few of them.

Dont be too quick on that. The Saints have had a large turnover of players over the summer and will take a few games to gel together. After watching the game on Satuday they had alot more of the ball than Eltham but struggled linking up forward.

They also lost the first game last year by a similer margin then won the next 5 or 6.
