Right - didn't even occur to me that he'd be in the 1st/2nd round conversation. Based on watching him rack up 16 possessions, at 61% effctiveness and kick a goal.
Gus Styles (played two Champs games for Metro) in the same game for Sandy had 18 at 100% effectiveness including half a dozen elite kicks on his non-preferred, also kick one goal and got BOG. Check Matt Balmer's review on AFL Draft Central.
No one has mentioned his name in any of these conversations so I can't see Bonar going ahead of Styles. He was miles ahead of Bonar and has far more runs on the board. If Styles doesn't get picked up until 4th round, Bonar won't either.
Without stepping on anyones toes here and all due respect to your good self. It is not always about the pure stats, it is just about how they will transition to the next level that will see them taken where they are. Think why Caleb Daniel was taken so low when he was a clearly better player taken than half the guys in front of him.
It is al about the body size and shape as it is about the footballing ability.

If I was a recruiter and I had the choice between a ball winner, pure footballer type and an athlete..I take the footballer every time.
Bonar for me is still a capable footballer, he is good at getting his arms up and tackles and feeding off good handballs. Id wait a few more games to properly judge his football smarts but at this stage its not a major issue. His main issue will be finding his AFL position because at this stage he is only a 3rd tall forward. If I was a recruiter and I had the choice between a ball winner, pure footballer type and an athlete..I take the footballer every time.
No luck with champion data rankings? Be great to see the top 100!
Be careful you have watched this kid three times max without reviewing film on him.Bonar for me is still a capable footballer, he is good at getting his arms up and tackles and feeding off good handballs. Never said I did know haha not sure what I said to give you the impression I knew everything about him hahaBe careful you have watched this kid three times max without reviewing film on him.
You don't know how he will test- he could have a midfielders tank.
Love the new avatar P35.Top 30-35 in your updated list look solid....As usual it's all about doing your homework thereafter.

Don't get me wrong, It wasn't my intention to pigeonhole him as a 3rd tall, I think he could do well in other positions mainly the midfield but I need to see more of his work in there to be sure. Atm he looks best as a 3rd tall forward and a dangerous one at that. If clubs believe he can be a midfielder I think he goes in the 1st roundBonar is much more versatile than being a 3rd tall forward.
It would suit him the most in the afl sytsem though due to his defensive pressure abilities.
The game against St Kevins he played wing and on ball for the whole game. Not sure if that was normal as i didnt see enough this year as they all play at the same time.
I think the injuries have hurt him in the way he is playing currently but there is so much upside to him due to how much of a competitor he is, obviously his physique is a big plus and his athleticism pre injury was incredible.
It will be interesting to see where clubs rate him come draft time but everything i have heard is about his upside and potential rather than stats.
Stats can be very misleading when looking into players suitability for the afl system especially if you are looking at the tac comp.
I agree he isnt a certainty to go second round. I was thinking only a few months ago i hope he gets enough games in to be picked up late in the draft or rookie. But i think if clubs are confident in his knees he could go 20-40 now.

I think you will find I have you guys taking him at 24 in my latest mock draftIf the Suns keep their 3 early 2nd round picks (19, 22, 24) just the type of player we should take a long hard look at. Take a couple of solid players and one swing for the fences type pick. Have room for a 3rd tall forward type as well.
WA has traditionally had a younger school entry (and hence leaving) age - has this made an appreciable difference to underage development or draft outcomes? What might hopefully happen now is the TAC gradually returns to an U19 competition where most top agers have already finished their schooling and don't have the double stress of finishing VCE and trying to get drafted at exactly the same time.
A far higher percentage of year 12 boys are turning 18 in the early part of their final year. As opposed to 1992 when the competition commenced and almost no-one turned 18 in year 12 until July.
If AFL clubs keep demanding "developed" players who are AFL ready when drafted, then the AFL should change the rules to keep the elite kids in this age graded competition for an extra year - you'll probably find an even greater translation into AFL games played and less "drop outs".

Speaking with a couple of recruiters who were both against the raising of tac cup age agree that the boys cope better than expected with the increase workload of tac footy and VCE thus preparing them better for the workload and learning schedule at AFL level. Both stated that some of the SA and WA boys they had interviewed had 'gap' years in their 18th year and were clearly less focused and school/ footy 'balanced' than the Vic kids they'd spoken tn iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app
