My favorite memory of Daicos is the night he kicked 13 lazy ones against Brisbane. Showed all his tricks that night. The bloke was an absolute wiz! The best exponent of the banana bender (check side) i've seen and some of the torps he got onto where pure gold. It's just a shame i only got to really watch his last 5 years, would've loved to see his career from the start!

So i thought i'd ask what your favorite memories of the Macedonian Marvel are? And maybe a few people could post their favorite clips for us all to enjoy again.

Got that Game on DVD at home and He was kicking them from everywhere but was against not much

13.1 that night and the one he missed was from a set shot about 30 metres out. He also dished off 2 or 3 gimme goals that he could have easily snaffled himself. That night Collingwood didn't use their bench until the last quarter. How times have changed.

A moment that sticks in my memory was Daicos taking a mark about 60 metres or so from goal on a very wet day. He frantically called the forwards to provide him with a lead. They duly obliged, and when the coast was clear, Daics bombed the ball over all the defenders heads and it bounced through in the goalsquare for a goal.

.

I think the Bench was Monckhurst and Tuddenman and The best thing was the the Bears coach was Robert Walls:thumbsu:

the one where he bends it back from beside the point post with Gastev pressuring was Daicos at his best.

Daicos is the best player I have seen in Black and White. Unparalleled. Sorry Bucks, but Daicos was better.

my exact thoughts... brilliant brilliant brilliant player!

im still to see a reason why daics isnt a specialist coach at collingwood... ver few had the class and skill that this true great of the game displayed

We dumped him very badly, he may still love the pies but im sure there is some hurt there

I was about 8 or 9 when they dumped Daicos. I was literally heart broken, remember asking my dad repeatedly "will he come back, will he come back?".

He was my childhood hero, it was pretty rough to see him go the way he did.

90 QF, the goal he kicked in the last 1/4, best goal I've seen live, best reaction I've heard at a Collingwood game (I was there when Rocca kicked that goal too). Have met him numerous times, you won't get a more humble person.

I watched his first game and loved him from day 1.
No one comes close in entertainment value.
Neon Leon does a good job these days. :D
I was overseas when his career ended, but saw the best of him. I was at the game when he done his knee. Absolute shocking day.
Everyone loved him. :thumbsu:
I did not see the 13 goal effort, but I remember in 80's one day against Richmond when he booted 8 or 9 at Victoria park. It was not the amount of goals, it was how they were kicked. Pure class. No easy gimmes. All out of the pack, contested possessions, dodging and weaving opponents and bagging them from everywhere.
I heard he got a rough deal and was forced to retire at the end of his career.
However, he loves Collingwood and can be seen at all our Games.
He sits in the AFL Members section all the time.

I forgot to add my best memory (which stems from a shortlist compared to many as I was only a kid), but I remember in 1992 he kicked a miraculous soccer goal from the boundary against Carlton at Waverley. The crowd went nuts! It was great to see Silvagni get frustrated too.

As for the 13-goal haul against Brisbane, that was the day I got my permanent scar on my forehead. When people ask me about it, how I got it and when, I respond "it was the day Daicos kicked 13 goals against Brisbane at Carrara".

Daicos was a freak. What more can be said?
Does anyone have a compilation of Daicos goals?
I have frequently checked youtube but there are not many great compilations and they are terrible picture quality.

probably the highlight of my going to the footy was a game in 1993, when daicos was up one end and G Ablett down the other at Vic park and they basically had a shoot out. Daics won the day by kicking one or two more and we won the match.

But in terms of class it was a sight to behold. One full of power, the other full of finesse. Totally diferent types of players, both in the twilight of their careers, both untouchable in terms of class. You cherish those days.

edit: daics 8 goals 1,
Ablett 7 goals 2

My favourite was his 7 goals against Carlton in a game at Princess Park in 1981 or 1982, I believe. We won the match by about 10 goals.

Carlton great Wayne Johnston wrote about the match in his autobiography, "Nobody, but nobody kicks 7 goals on Bruce Doull, but Daicos did".

Second best memory was his 6 or 7 goals in the second half against Carlton,Round 2, 1990. We had just come off a miserable first round loss to WCE in Perth, a subsequent 6 week suspensionfor Tony Francis and a miserable first half against Carlton, when Daicos produced the first sparks that led to the Premiership.

Final great memory was when he shouted me a beer at the pub he owned with Gavin Crossica in Carlton in 1990. Cheers again Daics!!!!

Totally agree Fu.

I was there that day too at Vic Park - remarkable that it ended up being one of the last games Daics played - think he hurt his knee in the next week or so after against Essendon and only made a brief appearance later in the season to play his 250th.

Daics is easily the most skilful & gifted player I've seen in the black & white... the hum of anticipation that came over the crowd whenever he got near the ball was amazing, as everyone knew something special was about to happen.

That hum when he went near the ball is still one of my most favourite memories of football. Daics was 100% freak.

I remember the day he was sacked, it killed me that we could do that to the most skilled player to take to the footy field. The only time i've shed a tear for footy was when i heard Millane had died, but this brought me close.

I am a doggies man but my favourite memory of Daics was when he kicked that goal in a final against the eagles...on the boundary...dribbled it in and his reaction was all class.

Daics and Dougie Hawkins were my favourite players from that era, but very talented although i think Daics probably drank less than Dougie!!

Probably true, But Daics had Dougie covered when it came to high stakes poker games!

I remember watching that game against Brisbane on tv. I felt for poor Gastev, but he was unstoppable that evening.

He played so many great games for us over the years, and it was a shame he went out that way. He'll always be remembered as helping us get that elusive flag. Kicking 97 goals from a FP is sensational.

I went to the same Primary school as Doug Hawkins although he was 1 or 2 years older than me. Brian Wilson (Melbourne Brownlow Medalist) went to the same school. He was a great player and a top bloke also.
I remember Collingwood played the Dogs at Victoria Park sometime in the 80's. For some reason Dougie got dropped to the reserves. Not many people would have seen it, but Hawkins took the best mark I have ever seen live. He was miles in the air. Too bad it was a reserves game and there were no cameras, otherwise it would have been one of the greatest marks of all time.

I remember standing next to Dougie and a few other doggies players at Millane's funeral service at Dandenong town hall. He only had good words for a lot of the collingwood players. He went up in my estimations after that, and it was a good effort to make it all the way out there and stand in the crowd not wanting any special attention or place:thumbsu:
