I would first like to apologise i have been on his back for the past 2 years for him to actually show something as most of you would know.

But tonight you actually showed something, appealed to me, and i actually liked what i saw would of had you in possibly top 5, work rate, skills, team ethics the lot you showed it all. now all you need is consistency and you may of won me over :P

Anyone else like his game tonight? Improvement?

Yup. Loved his game today, he was pretty damn good, it was a consistant FOUR QTR performance, which is what I really liked.

Don't worry guys, he is in for a fairly big year..
The effort and workrate has ALWAYS been there, which is why N.Buckley thinks so highy of him, the rewards for effort/workrate will come soon.

Well done Daisy.

It was much the same as his games last year. Those expecting him to breakout and become a superstar might be left wanting, IMO. He's comfortably in our top 22, hard worker who should be good for 20 disposals and a goal a game. I haven't really seen any evidence of him ever being a full time midfielder, just a flanker who might play on the wing occasionally.

Ideally he would play as he is now, just kicking a few more goals.

Played ok for me not great not bad, i think he will end up having a good career not a great one, players of his ilk struggle to find consistency, he is not a pure mid and is not damaging enough on really good players who are assigned to shut im down, Dale also has nowhere near the dash or evasiveness of Shaw or Harry off HB and if he were to lose a yard of pace well the wolves will be knocking at the door.
I like the Kid but you have to call it as you see it and a decent 200 game career despite where you were drafted is still nothing to be sneezed at.

It's just frustrating though, cause he has the talent the skills everything, to be one of the best players in the league or at least one of the most damaging players.

He could be SO MUCH more than a good 200+ gamer (O'Bree).

Personally I would chuck him in the midfield for 4-5 weeks, chuck him on the HFF for 4-5 weeks, then back to the midfield for 4-5 weeks, etc etc.

It would give him the chance to learn the art of reading the play, because it's not his engine that's the worry, it's his reading of the game, which can be taught, but only to a certain extent I know.

So far in his 85-90 odd games he hasn't really had a decent stint in the midfield, he has had bits and pieces of games here and there, but thats about it.

Exactly what I said probably wouldn't work, but something along those lines.

Unfortunately, with his youthful good looks and hairstyle, his ability to do the spectacular and the fact that he was a number 2 pick in the draft, Dale has become an easy target for many. Particularly after his form was a little below normal last year due to an injury he carried.

The truth is, you earn your stripes in any team by 'going when it is your turn to go' as they are fond of saying. Dale has always done this, always puts his head over the ball and is always ready to take the hits for the team when they come. He also seems, from my limited knowledge, to a fine young man off the field. Never in any trouble.

Maybe he is not the best no 2 draft pick of all time, and maybe he doesn't have the engine to become an elite midfielder, but he is an automatic selection in our best 22 as far as I'm concerned. And probably would be an automatic selection in every other AFL side for that matter.

He was great. I noticed a significant improvement from last year, which he does every year.

He was involved in quite a few passages of play that led to goals and had a couple of goals assists. He also kicked a goal, so his contribution was great.

Watch him run wild on Melbourne next week.:thumbsu:

I think he was pretty ordinary. Some good patches but some moments of stupidity. Some of the fumbles down close to goal were extremely frustrating. Hopefully just a bit of early season rust.

Tend to agree. Far from his best form that he showed in 2/3 of last year's finals.

Daisy was tremendous today, and he was our most dangerous finals player last season. Rapt with the way he's progressing.

As good as he always is.

People link his performances to stats, but he offers so much more with his amazing gut running and underrated hardness at the footy.

It would be nice to see him average 2 goals a game this year. It is what we want, Thomas, Didak, Davis, Medhurst, the Resting ruckman, Travis and Jack all averaging 2 goals a game plus the likes of Swan, Pendles, Sidey, Beams Benny J all averaging a bit more than 1 per game.

Medders was back, Didak is a HFF and Leon spending more time up forward all due to Ball playing midfield with an occasional run in the mid field.

But Daisy needs to kick goals each week but he was ok yesterday

People think if he doesn't get 25 touches, kick 4 goals and get 3 brownlow votes, he has had a bad game.

I bet he is doing the exact job Mick is telling him to do and that's why he is one of the first picked every week

I reckon Ben Johnson is a better field kick than Thomas. My major criticism of Thomas is his kicking, which is not up to the standard expected from a number 2 pick. In hindsight, perhaps we should have looked ar other players in the draft. Thomas is OK and in our best 22, but we need to face the fact that he is not as skilled as he should be. I know for a fact that Essendon did not rate him in the top 10 at draft time because of his inconsistent disposal.

Good but not great.
Those waiting for him to play like the 2nd overall pick in the draft might be disapointed yet, but heres hoping.

Thought he had a great game without racking up disposals.

Thought he AND Leon Davis played great negating games yesterday.

Thomas kept Griffen from exerting his usual influence and Neon kept Harbrow from beign his normal damaging self. Well done to both blokes.

I thought he was decent , definitely blunted griffin , while picking up 21 and a goal.
What was evident to me through out the game is that his left foot is perfectly acceptable , and I don't know why he often gets himself in trouble trying to get on to his right when there is no room to.

I thought it was a solid round one outing not nearly as spectacular as some have made it out to be, not as clean at ground level then he is generally and still the same inconsistancy in his decision making and kicking.

That said I am not knocking him, he certainly played his role.

Hold on a minute he disappeared for vast periods in the match although he got a bit of it. Wait until the going gets tough to judge him.

Irrespective of my username (and for the record he is not my fav pies player), I thought he was pretty good.

Had 21 disposals at 86% efficiency, kicked a goal, set-up 2 scoring opportunities for Leroy and was involved in other chains where he started it and his field kicking for the day was very good despite one or so that went wayward. He also played his "accountable" role too vs Griffen.

IMO, he looks fitter and stronger. His tank has definitely improved and with his work rate, he will start getting more reward.

His flexibility to also mark above his head when needed is also a really good luxury to have.

It's hard to please the Thomas knockers. They saytoo much caviar, not enough meat and veg, not enough disposals etc.

Yesterday's game he was all meat and veg and turned in a good number of stats with the efficiency too.

Has started season 2010 in good fashion.

Picked up 21 possies (6 contested) with very good efficiency (86%), 1 goal, 2 tackles & 2 clearances. Nice allround game.

Was very accountable and kept Ryan Griffen ( a gun) quiet with little to no effect. Griifen 19 possies (53% efficiency) good pressure!!

Would we prefer him to be like Marc Murphy and get 30 possies while his more dangerous opponent gets the same and wins the game for the other team??

Nice start to the year for Daisy.
