Those were two separate points, hence the two different paragraphs. You also missed what I was getting at. But you're naive if you think a player reputation has no negative impact on a club membership base, it's all about image. I'm not saying it may be a big loss, I have no idea, but I can guarantee there would be at least 1 person that stopped supporting Richmond because of Ben Cousins joining, Connors doesn't have the history or media coverage to have an impact like Cousins would. Not only that but look at the impact that off field drama has on a club, take St Kilda after the school girl incident, they were going great until that happened, it rocks a club and clubs try to avoid it.

In my mind, there is no way Richmond would continue with a player that has the potential to ruin their image and the fact that he's actually played for Richmond speaks a lot about how far he has come and what the internals think of him.

Also I know you're not implying that 50k members is because of Ben Cousins but just wanted to confirm.

I got your point. Presumably he doesn't have any right now otherwise he wouldn't be playing.
My point was - yeah maybe one person did stop being a member when Cousins signed up - 10,000 signed on!
The average footy fan, while disappointed and at times disgusted, have become used to players stuffing up.
Do you think there will be a mass-exodus of members and supporters at Whitten Oval after the Minson incident?????? No one condones that, but fans are forgiving and move on.

Personally, I don't think Connors has ruined our image .... people are able to separate the individual from the club as long as the club takes the appropriate action. Not to judge, Fevola at cartlon had a worse track record than Dan Connors, fans didn't exit the ship.

As for our membership, it's the combination of factors that has got us over 50,000 ..... expectation things ahve turned around, the presence in our line-up of some genuine stars in Cotchin, Deeldio, Riewldt etc. and some outstanding marketing and PR work by the club. The club is being ambitious with itsgoal of 75K members, but that's what it needs.

Completely agree with the bolded. Which is why I think that the club wouldn't be risking Dan if there was potential for him to re-offend. They've got him by the balls and he'll be trying his guts out to prove himself on and off the field. If he's anywhere near as good as what people think he is, watch him from now because he'll be a gun.

Disclaimer: I'm not claiming he is anything but I'll always hope for another great Richmond player :)
