That may be the case but surely you wouldn't want to be playing 2 "rucks" plus Dixon, Lynch and Thompson, who are all 199cm+, plus Day. That would make you the tallest team of all time.

What you would do if you traded Gorringe is get in a cheaper ruck option to provide that back-up. I don't think there is any need to have someone with as much trade value as Gorringe just as back-up.

I have no trouble with what the club is doing if they keep Gorringe. He's still very much wanted for the future. :D

Here's a suggested three-way trade, assuming the rumours about Gorringe and Jared Polec wanting to come back to SA are true and Port seriously want to chase them both.

Port lose: First rounder
Port gain: Gorringe, Polec, GC's third rounder

GC lose: Gorringe, second rounder (which given their list requirements they wouldn't use anyway if they get our first rounder), third rounder (ditto)
GC gain: Port's first rounder

Brisbane lose: Polec
Brisbane gain: GC's second rounder.

Thoughts from GC fans, or any Brisbane fans reading this?

We'd much much rather keep Polec. If he's wanting to leave (and there's not exactly been anything concrete for people to hang their hats on to) it might be reasonable, but it's a shit time to trade out a player when they're worth their least because of injuries.

Port have done very well in this trade. Think Gold Coast is a bit hard done by.

Wrong. Those were mostly low rated, speculative rucks.

A large number of them were rookies.

If you want to compare rookie projects with top 10 picks go ahead, but your "research" is biased & flawed.

You might also consider the predictive value of a negative sample i.e. those who have done nothing after 3 years and continue to do nothing :)

The following hardly set the world on fire after their first 3 years.

Dean Cox first 36 games averaged 9 possessions & 13 hit outs.
Ben McEvoy 18 games ave. 8 possessions & 12 hitouts.
Todd Goldstein 31 games ave. 9 possessions & 10 hitouts.

In Dan's last 2 games he's finally rucked alone and averaged 15 possessions (8 contested), 4 clearances and 17 hit outs.
He's only played 15 games, I'm not sure what you were expecting...:)
More than happy to keep him.

I like it, maybe the Lions should get GC's third rounder and we get the Lions third rounder?

It's barely here nor there, but they improve their position by 1, or 2, maybe even 3 spots depending on the last 3 minor round set of matches.

No doubt there's plenty of other rucks that didn't set the world on fire after their first 3 years, and then continued to spud it up.

What would Hawthorn need to give up for Gorringe? Bearing in mind that we'll likely want to use a relatively early pick on obtaining a good, young mid. So if Gold Coast has a midfielder that is wanting to move back to Victoria then feel free to suggest them in some sort of package deal.

Pretty much. He had high hopes to have been traded back to the Crows in a deal for Tippett which obviously didnt happen. He wants home from what I understand. That doesnt mean he will get there.

Dan is a quality young guy with great personal discipline, work ethic and leaping ability, unfortunately injuries have robbed him of the last 2.5 years.

I hope he stays as he deserves a couple more years to prove himself. I think when he does he will be a highly sort after Ruckman / Key forward.

During the radio coverage of the game today on 5AA Nathan Bassett was asked what his opinion of Dan was as he was his coach at Norwood. He said that he was one hell of a cone to cone to player (good skills at training) had a great kicking skillset and was great below his knees. On the negative side he said he was a ball watcher, who was soft at the ball and contest. If he got a bit of rough treatment in a game he would tend tomfall behind the opposition player. Needed to learn how to win his own ball.

Probably a fair assessment at this stage, lacks the big man mongrel.

He is athletic though, and decent skills for a tall of 15 odd games?

Nice audition from Dan in front of his new club today ;)
So what you're trying to say is that Gold Coast's asking price just went up? ;)

Did see him take a very nice mark over the top of someone though. Was very impressive.

Your 1st rounder for Dan and their 2nd rounder ought to do the trick. :thumbsu:

Liked what we saw today....wouldn't worry too much about the lack of mongrel that Bassett mentioned pre game seems to be most an issue big guys have early in their careers...we know he can take a pack mark and is a great kick ....on the evidence of the shot from 55 out on the boundary today..he was never going to miss it from a time is lined up ..it was no fluke he knew it was going though...don't think it can be our 1st pick but we will work something out.
