Was it just me or was Dane swan clearly best on ground again today..

surely he is in contention for brownlow voting for this year

thoughts?

No doubt absolute gun.

Jones was on Dids but because Swan was tearing St.Kilda a new arseh*le, Jones had to go to Swan. hahahahaha. Swan is untaggable and ripped Jones a 2nd arseh*le and then Dids carved them up toboot.

I hope he wins it- he deserves it.

He was best on ground again today and he should go on to set the MCG on fire for the remaining 6 H&A games.
He should poll very highly this year.

Swan should win the Brownlow but then again he should have gotten more votes last year.

Relatively confident he will win though, I heard the umpires are into tattoos on a man.

I won't be shattered if Swan doesn't win the Brownlow, a lot like the great man himself, who would love to have one, but doesn't really care if he ever wins one.

But if Dane Swan doesn't finish in the top 5 of this years brownlow, the Collingwood Football Club should boycott the 2011 count.

best game I've seen from Dane Swan ever.

35 QUALITY posessions. No cheap shit, no one twos. Best game this year from any of Judd, Ablett or Swan.

Amazing game. I'm slowly being converted on Swan. I always just thought of him as another cheap stat getter, but he's starting to put some bite behind that bark.

Now Ed, I think there is a Ben Reid thread waiting for you.

Oh cmon, he's just been converted to Swanny (our best player), give him some time to warm up to Reid.:p:)

Dane Swan was excellent today but I actually thought he was better last week.
Suppose that just shows you how good he's becoming. I swear if he doesn't get any votes from these last 8 to 10 games I'll go down to AFL HQ and protest.

I remember him burning off Jones and thinking "How the hell can he just do that???" Literally just afterburned away from him in typical waddle fashion... The guy has a tank the size a ocean liner...

Did anyone see how far he ran to mark that ball inside 50? Absolute freak.... He just runs and supports and provides options and never lets you down...

Thank you Dane Swan

Having said that I reckon Pendles might have snagged it from him. Umpires love him and I think his class in close quarters was brilliant.

Swan should get the votes, but he wont IMO.

This may be the alochol talking, but WATCH OUT BUCKS.

Seriously Swan is just behind bucks as the greatest player i've seen, and the way he is going he will overtake him very soonm

DW that is not just the alcohol, it is a very fair statement, dane is not there yet but **** me is he getting close :)

Lol, I love Swanny, but at the moment he is nowhere near the player of Buckley's caliber. He is a top class player, potentially A grade. In fact, nowhere near is potentially an overstatement :P. But I don't think it's actually possible for him to overtake Buckley, simply because he doesn't have the natural ability Bucks had.

For me, Buckley was the perfect player (or the nearest you could realistically expect).

He was a captain with leadership qualities, he was intelligent and well spoken (which clearl influenced his decision making on the field), was a superb kick, mentally unbreakable, strong physically which enabled him to shrug tackles etc etc.

Meh, you could probably say a lot about Swan too and I think he's clearly in the top few players in the competition. Unfortunately at their peak (or even their average) I'd happily pick Buckley every day of the week.

How'd I get on that? Damn you Frankie lol

as much as I love Swan (see my avatar), I'd have to agree with you there Syphoncom.

Agreed with all you have said about Bucks. Also for the fact that Bucks has singlehandedly carried the team during the darkest years of our club, and that he has been an elite player almost right from the start of his career, his class and consistency is second to none.

However Swan is almost as important to us as Bucks was back then. Swanny lifted when we needed him to (re. games vs. Scums, Dees this year), and that is leadership quality as I see it. I am amazed to read that some of our own supporters are only starting to rate him

I  Swanny :D

I watched Dane Swan really closely when you guys beat up on us earlier in the season.

He is just a really smart footballer. He has this uncanny ability to be able to run his opponent into a contested situation, lose them in traffic and then find the ball in space when it comes out of the pack. In my opinion, this makes him almost untaggable.

He is a star and has become my favourite non-Hawk.......and I hate Collingwood as much as the next guy.;)

Swannies only threat for Brownlow is Hodgey imo. Hodgey stands out more in Hawks team than Swannie does in Pies team where there are more players that are likely to steal votes off him. Ablett has had too many poor games to be considered I think.

In terms of match impact, I think both Hodgey and Swannie are very close. Contested possessions for 2010 are 159 for Hodge and 157 for Swan. So people that say Swannie gets alot of easy possessions should shut their blooody mouths. Swan has heaps more total possessions than Hodge, 508 for Swan (leads competition) vs 425 for Hodge.

End game is that Umpires have no excuse and cannot ignore Swannie in their votes this year like they bizarrely did last year.

There are of course 6 games left...

hodge n goddard are a lot more noticeable. swan plays like is on speed and does not look classy. pendlebury is more class andmay poll more votes again

Swan plays the modern version style of Robert Harvey. Harvey was a big accumulator and did it by endurance running people into the ground. Swan does it by repeat sprinting efforts followed by short rests in the modern rotation style. I think that's really the comparison player you would look at.
