Dangerfield re-signs

You choose the best "leader" whoever that might be.

I seriously disagree with you that the players aren't fit to choose their own captain. I can't think of anyone better qualified, not even the coaching staff.

What are your thoughts on the North Melbourne situation then? In 93, Pagan appointed the 21yo Carey as captain, in a decision which stunned the playing group - especially the older players.

I dont think some players are capable of determining who of their "mates" is the best man for the job. It would be like a group of employees being able to choose their own boss.

Fair to say that North didn't have a "leadership program" in place, like the Crows do now (and have had for several years)?

Carey was a great captain for North, aside from the indiscretion which sent him in our direction. Different time, different people, different philosophies.

Who is to say that the players' choice would not have turned out to be an equally good Captain? We can play these hypothetical games all night, but we'll never really know because things didn't turn out that way.

The club are doing a great job of signing up all our stars.. Only Knights & Thompson outstanding at this stage.

I wonder if this puts paid to all the suggestions that Craig had lost the players and that there were "serious problems" - at least amongst the playing group. For all of them to be more than happy to sign contracts, you'd have to assume that as far as they are concerned, everything is ok?

There was never ANY substance to those rumours. It was just a case of "the team is performing badly, therefore the players can't be happy, therefore the coach must have lost them" logic. The jump from step #1 to step #2 is deeply flawed, the jump from step #2 to step #3 even more so.

Yet a number of highly intelligent people, both on here and in the media, took the flawed logic to heart. I guess it's easy enough to make the mistake when it's about something close to the heart :o

I guess it's a lesson for the future, but we've all said that in the past too :p

I knew that, and you knew that... but by god it was hard to convince them of that! ;)

Please don’t be so condescending, like me, you have no idea what the hell happens inside the inner sanctum of the club.

You don’t know if the he lost the players or not, you don’t know how or what form of negotiations the club has taken to get the players signature. So don’t post stuff to discredit people who are very anti Neil Craig and make them sound stupid.

Like me, you don’t know and are only surmising on an opinion.

Nobody has to post anything to make you sound stupid. You manage that all by yourself! :D

For what it's worth, I wasn't complaining about being picked on at all. Just made a fair (I thought, given the schtick I received) observation that perhaps my thoughts were closer to the mark than the conspiracy theorists. He may well have lost the players... like you say, we'll never know. What is clear now, though, that he has certainly got them back.

The game against port adelaide really showed us naysayers.

Showed you what? Geez Louise. Give me a break. It's a fair observation that having good young players re-sign (Tippett, Dangerfield, Mackay etc etc) with the Club is an indication that the Coach hasn't lost the players - as had been previously espoused in here. I didn't say "oh, look, they've all signed, must mean there's no problems whatsoever". Read what I said properly before you go off half cocked.
