Wasn't it last year the AFL said that umpiring would crack down in incidents where "ball winners" were being impeded by their opponent at stoppages - I remember one match where before the umpire could ball-up, Ablett got a fair shove in the chest that knocked him over & the umpire awarded a free kick as per the idea to stop that sort of shit happening when play is stopped.

There were some in the media that weren't happy, said it was a soft free kick that those things are part of the game etc

Can't have it both ways - either the off the ball pushing, shoving & holding isn't part of the game & as such the umpires should pay some free kicks. And if they paid them early in the contest then it would stop that crap over the rest of the match. Or be prepared for ball winners to get frustrated at the continual harrassement even when they are a kick+ away from the ball.

If Danger had to push DeBoer off him when he was more than a kick off the ball, why wasn't it a free kick to Danger for being held in the first place - pay that and the swinging arms don't happen

It's more irritating when the forward marks it and also cops a whack. Hawkins is forever being smacked in the side of the head.
