So why didn't they match?carlton could have matched regardless of thomas, had they matched you would have needed to trade to get betts

No they could not have matched as well...there is this thing called the salary cap and Carltons is choccas...They had to choose between Betts or Thomas. To match you still need room in the cap yeahcarlton could have matched regardless of thomas, had they matched you would have needed to trade to get betts

On TF: Mark Stevens looking bemused when Carey says maybe the media shouldn't (and shouldn't have) constantly bring up the same discussion over potential player movement (ie. Dangerfield all year) week by week. Amusing, Stevens knows he'd be pointless if that were the case.

Betts would've stayed if Carlton matchedmatch then trade, then make offer for thomas
it can be done
Nope...the trade period comes after RFA deals so you would need the cap room for both otherwise AFL would not sign off on itmatch then trade, then make offer for thomas
it can be done
from betts himself, he said that adelaides offer was only 50k more and carlton did not want to match ... too bad for them.Betts would've stayed if Carlton matched
The free agency period starts before the trade period, and ends before the trade period does, but the two run concurrently for a number of days. It is possible to sign a free agent after completing a trade.Nope...the trade period comes after RFA deals so you would need the cap room for both otherwise AFL would not sign off on it

I've seen this line of thinking from many Geelong fans and I agree that given the state of Geelong's list, it might be prudent to keep as many high draft picks as possible.cats list is too weak to sell the farm
timing is out for geelong, they should have recruited him 2 years ago, when the list was stronger
we have 9 spots this year and another 6 next year
cant fill those with picks 50 plus
Wasn't aware of the over lapping but doesn't change much. If they matched Betts offer then he said he would have accepted their contract to stay. The free agency period starts before the trade period, and ends before the trade period does, but the two run concurrently for a number of days. It is possible to sign a free agent after completing a trade.
If only they had had you on their team - maybe you should hire yourself out?match then trade, then make offer for thomas
it can be done
There were plenty who who wanted to take you on... But too refused to reply like the slippery customer you are. I lost count the number of times...Yes I will
I offered to take bets on before he announced he was leaving but no one took these on
No chance. Will you man/woman up here when that doesn't happen?
Recruit essendon's recruiting manager as he over-rates their team & under-rates everyone else.Since you are here, how does Geelong intend on getting Henderson and Zac Smith?
I liked his statement that it's happened before, then had to reach aaaaaall the way back to Buckley in '91 for an example.
You might want to ring Chris Scott and advise him he shouldn't talk about how you pay the players if he has no effing idea
They also got warned by the AFL on doing such a deal, If they pay 1.5 for 2 then next deal they drop the $$'s massively they will cop sanctions.
Carlton now wish they matched Betts!Carlton had the chance to match
So do we!we only need to make an offer that the crows dont match
we have heaps of cap space
Yep, you are screwed!cats list is too weak to sell the farm
timing is out for geelong, they should have recruited him 2 years ago, when the list was stronger
we have 9 spots this year and another 6 next year
cant fill those with picks 50 plus
They rated Thomas ahead of Betts, so it was not possible...match then trade, then make offer for thomas
it can be done
he would put a price on his head and its all over, he would walk there for free at madness prices
doesnt help you as it would either be rfa or draft
carlton could have matched regardless of thomas, had they matched you would have needed to trade to get betts

See this is just rubbish too and I hope Dangerfield, Geelong and Conners have worked this out.Latest article on the Herald Sun says that if a trade isn't done then Dangerfield will nominate a 1 year contract to try and persuade other teams not to take him.
