That's why I think we'll take the compo pick. So that we can enter trade week without any unknowns.

Personally I hope we keep them separate - use our existing picks/players to engineer whatever trades we are aiming for and independently try to max. out whatever value we can get for Dangerfield.

I fear we will take the path of least resistance though.
What if we could get what we wanted with picks 13 and 14 and we didnt need pick 9 to get the deal we want?

You might be right, neither of us knows. I'm happy with that

But I don't accept the revisionist nellies pretending we weren't trying to woo woosha in whatever role

My view.... Woosha was plan A, we had an early red hot crack at him and was advised at that time Coaching in Adelaide was not an option and knowing Woosha's position early we were able to move the provess to assessing other candidates and as a result has Pyke in our sights for some time now.

Pyke technically may be our plan B however like I've said previously it may just turn out to be the best decision

With the teams negotiating as we talk, the trade that they agree upon will be interesting, no doubt the Crows are fired up on the matter from what Fagan and Roo have said and Geelong will be keen to get Danger, as any team would be. Dangerfields part in the move is interesting as I doubt he is sitting back with his fingers crossed and having Mardi have a meltdown if they end up in Brisbane.

Danger will not end up at Brisbane - and marty, stop taking side-swipes at Mardi ... it adds very little..

Wasnt a swipe it was a opinion, could not imagine she would be too happy not ending up in Moggs, can you? Lets face facts PD is gone if the crows lose out on a trade for him, cant imagine him having a great respect from the majority of Crows supporters, you may still like him, but I can tell you he will cop a fair bit from the rest of us. If we are compensated fairly he will save face with thousands of crows supporters.

Don't be surprised if this turns into a three way trade, something like:

Carlton
Gain: Geelong's second pick 2015 (pick 28) plus first and second picks 2016,
Lose: Henderson and Menzel, second pick 2015 (pick 20)

Geelong
Gain: Dangerfield, Hendsrson
Lose: First and second picks 2015 (picks 9 and 28) plus first and second picks 2016

Adelaide
Gain: Pick 9, Menzel plus Carlton's second pick 2015 (pick 20)
Lose: Dangerfield

We still get significant unders but we won't end up with much better.

Geelong cannot afford to draft away their first two picks for the next two years given they have an aging team.

I'm getting a feeling Geelong are wanting us to facilitate the Henderson trade then they'll hand over pick 9. Lucky if we get extras. If we continue to try for more they will just clean out the pick for Henderson when the period overlaps leaving us nothing to trade for then compo it will be. It all depends when they table the offer. Straight away we've worked something out. Later there is an impasse.

Trade Radio were suggesting Walker to Carlton with 2nd and 3rd picks for Henderson. That seems excessive but if they are giving up Walker no chance they will get pick 9 as well.

Well if they are trying to work out a trade for Henderson in that manner without #9 then it is better. Again it will be a waiting game to see if that happens or not.

I just don't get the underlying tone of this post.
If I read it correctly it seems as though you are suggesting that Henderson is a priority over Danger and we need to watch what we request otherwise we could lose pick #9 and that goes to Carlton for Henderson.

In what world is Henderson work pick #9 and if he is PD is worth 10 first round draft picks.

Henderson is the steak knives compared to PD not the other way round.

Its Geelong that need to be wary of what they give up for Henderson not us.

Who do the Cats want more and who do they rate more highly??

Then they should stop trying to recruit established players from other clubs and focus on recruiting and developing young players.

The problem with their whole approach here is that they want to get everything and give up nothing. They seem to think the rest of the comp owes them a favour - other clubs should just let free agents go without matching their laughably low contract offers, or if they match should just accept whatever scraps Geelong feel like tossing their way in terms of trade instead of giving up fair value.

They need to get serious about the trade and accept that you need to give up something of value to get something of value, or accept they may miss out on one (or more) of these players they're chasing.

I'm just stating what I think the tactics may be. I personally think they may threaten to use #9 on Henderson to get us to baulk. No way have he's a priority. Just a tool they can use in their heavily weighted position. If you go back to the start of the thread Geelong mod catempire stated a scenario like this.

It's a great strategy when it works... when you've got first pick in the PSD.

Geelong don't obviously and their supporters do not understand that this may be a problem.

I am not as sold on Danger as others. Don't get me wrong, he IS a very good player but I just feel he is not nearly as irreplaceable as some think. I suppose next season we shall see if I am right.

I have confidence we will make out okay...I just really believe that.

Well I like your optimism.

I think it all rests on our coaching selection. If we nail that, we will bounce back quickly.

Maybe we should threaten to use pick 13 on Hampton so we can Aish for unders.

Geelong using pick 9 for Henderson is no threat to the AFC. Once they use pick 9 that sort of eliminates Geelong from getting Danger in the National Dreaft. He would be forced into the PSD and neither Geelong or Danger want that
