Either they thought we'd give Danger the golden handshake and let him walk for pick #14 (and who knows if Danger or Connors told the Cats that'd be the case), or that the AFL would give us the 2 draft picks we want and we wouldn't match, or they're convinced they can get him in the draft. Can't see any scenario where they give us what we want while also being able to grab all of Henderson, Smith and S.Selwood.
Im sure they have a plan.

I'd say Mardi did play a big role in the decision, because, you know, that's how a partnership works. I don't know either of the two, but I'd think if Dangerfield was absolutely adamant on staying, then he would have. From the outside looking in, it just seems like the two of them are the kind of people who like to be very close to their families. I personally couldn't think of anything worse than living in a small town, just a stones throw away from my parents house, but hey, that's me.

Hopefully this puts a stop to us recruiting any more "born to rule" types. Gunston, Davis, Tippett and Dangerfield all came from cashed up families and all have bitten us on the arse.

I think their grief over Phil's loss has been public and genuine enough to the point you should feel a bit embarrassed by this post to be honest.

For all we know Mardi could be quite depressed and need to be around family. Who knows - its not our right to know.
Don't follow - their grief and the decision to leave Adelaide are quite separate. Your linking it is just speculation as is my view. The only thing we know is he opted out and she was part of the decision making process. Sorry for not giving them the ticker tape parade like others on here.

As far as I'm concerned, he's gone and that's it. I don't really care why. I don't care if it was Mardi or not, I don't care if he goes for money or goes for family or goes for homesickness or goes because the voices in his head told him to go. It's irrelevant. He's gone. All I care about now is what we get for him.

I had an argument with a cats supporter.

Apparently dangerfield has courted the cats, not the other way around.

Totally agree

And didn't we go that way because we were worried after Bernie Vince got in trouble a bit that the country boys were too much trouble?

Angwin (drugs) and Pfeiffer (booze) probably scared us.

Good observation.
This is the one common theme amongst those players.

Homesickness was not a factor for Tip or Davis.

No more self entitled silver spooners.

Its about character as much as location. That being said, some boys do change after their names are called. Pfeiffer was a perfect example.

You connected the leaving with 'everything the club has gone through'.

I'm just saying I think they went through it to.. and now like you say its a seperate situation so don't go connecting them.

Yup. And I do expect Paddy to be openly favourable towards us in the negotiations. If he shafts us.. I will be pissed.

I would hope not. If the club thought Bernie's actions were so terrible that they needed to recruit players who were from the middle-upper class, I would be disgusted with the AFC. His actions were only offensive because someone chose to be offended. You need to be a sensitive and easily outraged person to dob in Bernie for his actions. I bet that's not the first reaction of outrage this particular supporter has done in the name of trivial social justice and I bet it wasn't the last.

I expect Danger's priority will be to get to Geelong & he won't really care how.

Not so sure. Geelong won't do us any favours no matter what Paddy thinks.

I'd have thought that any pressure that Paddy puts on the Cats to get a deal done is for his own self interest in getting home and not because he wants us properly compensated

Whatever. Grow up. How does that mean anything to us as AFC supporters?

If you think it makes you sound clever by referring to Mardi the whole time then I guess that's your choice.

You don't know either of them - you are reading into every word spoken through the media.

Would you be so brave and say those things to Danger and Mardi face-to-face? that is always a good way to check if what you are saying is all hot-air or not. I've got a feeling you wouldn't be quite so flippant.

I guess asking someone to show some class on an anonymous internet forum is going a bit far ... looking at your handle, it may be way too big an ask.
Wow. Talk about taking things out of context. It was you who posted to stop having digs at Mardi in response to a comment about her having a meltdown if he goes to Brisbane.

This fact is abundantly clear and not in dispute - Danger is leaving because he and Mardi want to start a family in Geelong. There is no sick grandfather or any other reason. Unless we are being lied to again.

However, since Danger himself has put Mardi in the thick of it by saying he is leaving to start a family and all the evidence of her family's pull in Geelong, then a comment that she would not like Brisbane drafting Danger is absolutely 100% fair game and in light of allefgib's post about what he thinks is acceptable or not, I stand by that.

So yes, if Brisbane drafted Danger and I bumped into him at an airport I would certainly feel comfortable asking him what his family thinks of the fact he's not playing in Geelong in 2016.
