Okay compo picks...I have been thinking about this in a fair way....what say this (and forget this year because that is life)?

The compo pick awarded to said club could be based on where they finish in AFL ratings. AFL ratings are obviously statistical....and every player is rated against a criteria. I understand there are flaws here....but I failed to think of something fairer.

Maybe it could be done over an average of 3 years....not sure but happy to debate.

In any regard whatever the rating of a player is the draft pick the club is entitled to. Means top 10 players will always be rewarded with top 10 compo picks.

Makes sense? Okay over to you experts to debate. Just remember my name when I am famous (except the frogman who has no clue ;) ).
I don't mind it - but if the Hawks want PD and he is ranked #3 - how do the Hawks get the pick?

The father/son style formula works better, using the values below to determine how you make up the points with picks ... the point value of a player could come from a similar table that allocates player value based on something like the AFL Ratings.

So Dangerfield is given a points value - receiving club needs to put together the points as a base. So it's the least that the source club has to accept. If the source club wants to negotiate a trade and forgo the picks - that is up to them - they can always fall back on the base.

As this has been mentioned before, there needs to be a discount for FA - so maybe a 20% discount on points ...

Although it will be touch and go whether we are granted a 1st round compensation pick, if the scenario plays out that we are not given pick 14, then the club will have to match, absolutely. Naturally the AFL are so manipulative with the way they run the competition, they don't take into account that a player like Dangerfield will go for less money to accommodate the move to the new club. That is between the new club and the player who is committed to playing for the new club, yet they might use it as a chance to screw us on compensation despite Dangerfield being one of the best players in the competition. This is absolutely ridiculous stuff coming from the AFL.

I think anything less than a 1st round pick for Dangerfield would be considered a "materially anomalous result" and they'd up it to a 1st round ie pick 14. Which is still not enough, so we should still match anyway, so ultimately not really relevant.

Might be old news, but I saw on Facebook that "Danger's catch" has been removed off the menu at the Alma.

Obviously Roo has moved very quickly to erase him from history, looks like Dangerfield's association with the Alma, thankfully, is done.

Well of course it is. He's not a Crow anymore, so he's not any good for promotional purposes.

I think the AFL deep down want clubs to match and then go to a trade. Instead of relying on the compensation band pick as renumeration.

Unless it's a Lance Franklin godfather deal, the AFL want clubs to match.

Yup. And I do expect Paddy to be openly favourable towards us in the negotiations. If he shafts us.. I will be pissed.

I doubt he's involved at all. His manager would have been asked whether he's happy to go via a draft if it came to it and Danger would have said yes or no. Geelong will play their cards based on that answer. But Danger will likely be fishing somewhere whilst this plays out.

There should be a trade for every FA movement. Either a trade of players/picks worked out by the clubs - or a one-way trade of picks forced by an AFL formula.

Dangerfield's manager saying if danger goes into the draft he'll be able to get him to Geelong. I'm not sure if this is the old news we've already heard but it was just mentioned again on radio.

I just don't see it. I think he must be posturing because he's got nothin'. The wnaker!

Hawks get PD (via FA) and we get the #3 draft pick regardless of where anyone finished...!

"He'll be able to get him to Geelong"

Isn't that manipulating the Draft, something we, Kurt and Blucher got pinged for? God I can't stand the double standards and manipulation in the AFL. What an amateur, corrupt competition this is.

I would have thought so. I'd like to know what deals he thinks will get him to Geelong that don't include Geelong giving up as much as they will have to give to the crows if they want to avoid him going in the draft.

"The committee can recommend alternative outcomes to the AFL's football operations manager Mark Evans if the formula produces a materially anomalous result."
In other words, the AFL can continue to make shit up as they go.

I do wonder if we force Danger to the draft and he then doesn't make it to Geelong how our dealings with Connors will go in the future.
