For some I think its seen as a way to get an experienced ex-senior coach into the coaches box, without them needing to take a "lesser" assistant's role. Personally I'd prefer to see them just called "senior assistant" or "strategy coach" or the like as it undermines the authority of the senior coach. There's already enough layers these days above the senior coach, without creating a confusing sideways kind of position.

In this case it seems like perhaps the powerbrokers at Geelong are a little nervous with their slide.

Geelong trade pick 9, next years first pick and murdoch. We should accept nothing less. Its unders for pd but this is where the clubs will meet imo. We are seriously misusing Hendo at the AFC, he should be playing on the wing to use his outside speed and booming kick into the forward line....he's essentially an attacking player and we seem hell bent on trying to make him a defender.

It's not called a 'priority pick ' ..... Thats what your club asked for this year , it is called 'compensation pick '. The idea is if the incumbent club can match the RFA bid then the player stays
at the incumbent club or requests a trade. There is no difference to any other trade scenario at this point . If danger wanted to get to geelong without
these potential scenarios he would wait another 2 years and make his way as unrestricted free agent whereby the incumbent club has no rights and no option other than receiving AFL designated compensation pick

Its very clear from what weve heard that we will not accept the compensation pick. I think the decision of including future draft picks in trades has come about from adelaide and geelong voicing their issues on this trade with the afl.

Doesn't seem to matter. If money was a big factor he would pick somewhere other than Melbourne I'm sure. Saint Kilda probably have a fair bit of cap space and much better prospects. I reckon Norf would have cap space and would be able to pay more than 800k and they played in a prelim this year.

I'll be seriously shitty if he goes to Melbourne after they supposedly offered 2 3 last year for him and we'd get shitty compo for him this year
