Such a stupid threat.

So effectively a club could draft him for 1 year and turn him into more the following year when it's their turn to trade him plus they get him for a year.

Besides there is no way Danger will want to go through this again.
Is that journalist an idiot or am I wrong that the main draft contract can't be less than two years and a player can't stipulate conditions. That's the PSD so the "using a premium pick" argument is bullshit.

Players can stipulate years + income in the psd. The difference is that any team that gets a pick has the option to take it on.

Seriously what the **** did geelong think was going to happen. I dont understand the reasoning in not paying premium (over 1 mil per year) for pd. when every other free agent has left his club and they dont match its because their new club has dropped a rich offer infront of the player which effectively rules out the other party.

carlton could have matched regardless of thomas, had they matched you would have needed to trade to get betts
i am not trolling

They could have matched, maybe. They didn't match. We will. They should have.

I can't see what your point is??

Could it be a case of Geelong telling us what we want to hear when really they are giving danger a monster deal we can't match.
Good way to blindside us. Also a good way to burn a bridge though.
Tell me, how would we be unable to match? No matter what it is, we can match because we won't get "stuck" with him - he's going. He'll reject our "matched" offer. Hawthorn couldn't match Buddy's deal because he would have stayed! This is especially true given the exact terms (front end back end) dont have to be matched but rather, overall years and dollars.

A really low number like that - that'd be worth thinking about. Didn't Frawly result in pick 3?…hmmm not sure Frawls and Danger are in the same class though.

Will be better than a couple of mid to late first rounders that we'll get from Geelong

Ricciuto this morning:
'Any team that picks up Dangerfield for 1 year could then trade him for good value'

Then Dittmar plants the Melbourne offer (so set up).. It was great

So he is happy to screw over someone who gave his all to the club for 8 years, and deny him the right to go home/where he wants?....Not saying you dont deserve adequate compo, but seems like a dog thing to say from Roo dont you think?

So do we!

We have already been through this numerous times...

You will need to offer a buddy-like deal to outprice us... But cats have already said they won't as have a pay structure.

Damn, guess you will need to offer a trade.

You must be the thickest person on bigfooty, as you have only been told this a gazillion times!
The same pay structure they were going to break to keep Ablett
Don't believe the whole media spin

Heard rumour that geelong have gone to initial trade discussions with pick 9 and GHS as a potential offer

Crows wanting 2 1st rounders and a player and NOT GHS

Think this will end up somewhere in the middle of those offers

Not if Adelaide and Geelong can't work something out. Roo makes a valid point. If someone like Melbourne pick him up for a year for free he loses his FA rights and if Geelong want him they have to give adequate compo at the trade table for him. If I were Melbourne I'd do it in a heartbeat.

The thing I liked about this is that it brought the flip side of the coin to my attention. I knew that Melbourne would obviously get really good trade value for him at the end of one year, but I didn't really consider the other side of that being that Geelong will have to offer a lot more to get him in that situation than what they would have to now.

Ie Melbourne could quite rightfully ask for two first rounders, a second and not budge. We don't hold that type of currency.

It is actually in Geelong's best interests to avoid that situation. As well as Adelaide's, Dangers.

Pretty confident a reasonable deal will get done - just not sure what that is.

Disagree. A dog move would be not giving an adequate trade to a club, for a player who has put himself out there, by telling his current club he wants to move to a new club who has approached the player with a contract.

It would only come to that if patty tried to screw us over first, so somehow I don't think we'd care.

You lot must be getting nervous all of a sudden. Thought you were getting him for free, didn't you?

Carlton now wish they matched Betts!
Haven't followed this thread lately so this might be out of context but its more than just Betts.
Carlton really stuffed up with their forward line when you add up all the goals the players they let walk have scored.
Betts 63
Waite 42
Garlett 40

Their revised and improved offer is rumored to be: "Here, have a first round draft pick and a bag of potatoes".

I don't know who has what salary cap space. I doubt anyone on bf does either. Can't rule it out unless we know for sure.
