It just isn't going to happen. If you match you'll accept what Geelong can trade to you which is reasonably better than pick #14. You lot bang on about how both Geelong and Adelaide's powers that be will ensure a fair trade is met for both, but don't consider what's fair and reasonable in the situation. Adelaide would already know what Geelong can offer by way of a trade BEFORE they elect to match. If they match, a trade will get done. Danger will not go to any draft, you guys will get better than pick #14 compo but nothing like two first rounders and one or more "quality players". You're just absolutely in la la land if you think that will happen.
Can you please explain the difference between this trade (if matched) and the Judd/Burgoyne deals?

Which begs the question, why did Geelong chase him now and not offer a godfather contract that we couldn't match? They are playing right into our hands.

My theory is that Danger expressed an interest in coming home for family reasons and Geelong didn't feel like they could or should say "wait another 2 years so we can get you for nothing". If they weren't willing to pay a sufficient amount they should either have waited 2 years or offered a huge contract. They have chosen not to and they have to live with the consequences of that decision. We will match and Geelong will have to come up with fair value as they would for any uncontracted player who nominates a club unless one of 2 things needs to happen 1 - the AFL up the compo or 2 - a side deal is done that gets us another first rounder or equivalent.

If he goes into the ND he will get picked up by a club who has him for one or 2 yesr and that club can then trade him to Geelong in exactly the same circumstances Geelong have now. I can't see Danger wanting to go into the ND and potentially ending up in Brisbane.

if Geelong won't come to the party I don't think Danger and Yoko staying in Adelaide for 2 more years is as far fetched as everyone thinks. We get 2 more years then GFC get him for nothing.
This is a really good point would we pay pick 14 to have danger for two years? Could get us a premiership in that time

Not sure what you mean by this post. I'm not suggesting that 14 for danger is a good deal but 2 1st rounders and maybe a player for 2 years of danger. I'm really torn on that one

Mean that if Patricks second option is to stay with the crows (if a deal can't be manufactured) then would the crows be happy to pay pick 14 for Danger and lose him for nothing in two years. Would any club? I think if you know you are going to get two years of danger at his peak the cost is worth it.

We still get a compo pick if he leaves as a FA in 2 years. Which part of this do you not understand?

How many times are you going to repeat yourself?

Judd just wanted to return to Melbourne. He had multiple suitors offering him huge dollars and WC ridiculous amounts. Eagles won that deal in hindsight. It set a precedent which I'd not wish to follow. In fact, it proved that selling the farm for one player is foolhardy.

Burgoyne IIRC, unlike Judd nominated Hawthorn from the outset. But the trade which netted Port pick #8 and #12 saw Port also hand back a some later picks in return. So in effect Burgoyne wasn't worth two first rounders at all and Judd wasn't worth what was paid for him either.

Danger isn't staying here, why do some of you bother with such scenarios?
Desperation drives even the sanest supporter into a flurry.

I want a Dagerfield who wants to play for our club. He doesn't, and therefore I don't want him. We move onwards and upwards.

That's not how I remember it. He picked Carlton after everyone expected him to go to Melbounre as his boy hood club and Collingwood with a massive media deal attached.

He said Carlton and only Carlton after meeting with a few clubs a week after saying he was coming back to Victoria.

Ok so danger who is worth more than Burgoyne (at time of trade , which I think we can all agree on) isn't worth two first rounders? When Burgoyne and change got two?

What? None of that makes any sense.

Judd had multiple suitors but chose Carlton who had to strike a deal with WC.

Port got 2 first rounders for Burgoyne, if they gave them some average picks back that's irrelevant.

That's like saying if Geelong give us their first 2 picks over 2 years but we give you pick 50 in return Danger wasn't worth 2 first Rd picks.

Nonsense.

Judd was always going to Carlton...two words...Richard Pratt.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Judd was the "green" Ambassador for VISY

Half the Carlton list were on the VISY payroll outside the salary cap at the time...
