Since Danger will be unrestricted in two year's time, he's only worth offering the value of two years of his services. For us to give you pick #9 in exchange for you guys to not match and also receive pick #14, I think that is more than fair. Personally I don't want to pay a king's ransom for a guy we can get in two years for nothing. Despite what you lot on here say, you don't have the upper hand. He's leaving Adelaide and only wants Geelong.

If Adelaide's demands are too crippling to the point that Geelong can't possibly satisfy what's being demanded, Danger will nominate for the ND where Geelong will pick him up with their pick #9. Unlike the PSD, club's will not pay a first round draft pick for a guy who has stated that he doesn't want to play for them and will only play for one year.

So in effect, Adelaide lose pick #14 AND pick #9. But you'll be stoked because you'll have made a stand and also kept your second and third rounders. Top logic there, bud!:thumbsu:
poor argument.
It depends on how long you have him and what you perceive his value to be. Eg top 5 player in the league etc.
Using hypotheticals now since you know hes going is meaningless.

You have clearly missed my point. Geelong may as well have told Danger to just bide his time for two more years as they aren't prepared to pay massive overs for two years of his services when he could be aquired two years later FOR NOTHING!
They should have.
PD may have weakened your club so badly by this trade you won't see daylight for years

I understand the emotions behind your mentality. In your situation I would feel the same. Hell, I've got a mad Adelaide suppoting wife who's also baying for blood. But it's simple really, if Adelaide match, a deal would have already been agreed upon before that happens. The trade will be something which falls somewhere in between a solitary pick #14 and two first rounders plus one or more quality players. It'll probably be pick #9 and either a second rounder next year or a player like Jordan Murdoch.

Why do you keep bringing up pick 14?

That's Sydney's pick, right? Are you trading for it?

This is a simple trade for an uncontracted player where you have to give appropriate value. You can't offer other club's picks.

It's two first rounders. Or go away.

Brisbane get pick 5, pick 25 and Jack Crisp for Beams who requested a trade to Brisbane.

Adelaide will get ........ For Dangerfield who after we match will request a trade to Geelong.

Dangerfield>Beams Pay up Cats.

At bare minimum pick 9, next year pick probably top 10 again and Murdoch/Gregson (preferably Murdoch)

I'll be pretty annoyed if we don't match just so Geelong can win this whole situation. Screw that, the Cats should pay.
As long as we get what we need to make the trades we need and draft the kids we want I'm not fussed

Our success is independent of Geelong's

We definitely shouldn't compromise on that though

Does anyone have any confirmation on whether Dangerfield has made the 1-year-deal threat?

If he has, **** him.

He won't do that.

If Mardi is pregnant the last thing he wants to be moved around for another year or even worse end at up at Brisbane via the PSD.

We will match and a trade will be arranged for him to get to Geelong that is fair for both parties, why does everyone try to complicate this?

Geelong supporters who say they will get him for nothing are just idiots.

It's no coincidence that Geelong supporters in the media are the ones who are heavily spruiking us taking the compo and that specific 1 year deal threat seems to be coming directly out of the mouth of Hutchi.

He has been quick to get rid of the crows stuff from his Twitter profile.

Starting to think he actually hated out club and couldn't wait to get out.

I hope we screw him over.

I'd hope we'd be looking at what the Bulldogs did after GWS lured a key player over last year and talking to Cockatoo's manager about the hole in our salary cap Dangerfield has left us with. If he's half interested in coming here whatever Geelong say now it's absolutely not unreasonable to be talking about a pick 10 whose had a reasonable but potentially exciting first year in the context of a trade for Patrick freakin Dangerfield

Time to move on... dont really care what happens to him now... hes now just opposition... just looking forward to seeing if our club really have changed.

We'll still see plenty of him. Probably wull be on the footy show every secomd week.

Bring on the fireworks this club needs

It's not about one, it's about the team

If I were Geelong, I'd say giving up the 2015 & 2016 first rounders for Danger is a pretty good result and all things considered probably still unders from their perspective.

Looking at the deal as a risk vs reward trade off, given the consistently elite performances Geelong are almost guaranteed to get from Danger for the next 6-7 years vs the alternative and what Geelong are likely to end up with from those 2 picks given their recent record in the draft, and the choice is pretty obvious I would've thought.

Smedts & Thurlow or a 3 time All Australian & perennial Brownlow favourite?

With the news WCE will match any offer made to Selwood it could well prove that Geelong (this much hyped destination of feeder clubs everywhere) may actually miss out on every single player on their hit list if they don't start getting their act together and coughing up draft picks and players. At present if the media are to be believed, Geelong want their cake and eat it too and I think they can forget about Zac Smith because they simply will not get a deal done.

I think it will be Pick 8, first rounder next year and a player now for Dangerfield, They will ensure they land the biggest fish.
