I'm still firm on my opinion that I would be more than happy if the club put Danger in the draft, the compo pick should never be a consideration for the club.

I am not unrealisitic but I would be happy with either of these deals

• Pick 9 and Geelong's 2016 first pick
• Pick 9 and Cory Gregson

either of those deal I would rubber stamp and take straight away. I think they're going to be the best the we're going to be able to get.

^^this is true. The more Geelong and Dsngers mgmt play it out in the media the more worried they are getting. If I was the AFC, like Dangerfield did, I would be saying " No comment" right up until and during trade week. Keep the cards close to your chest and keep them guessing.

If Dangerfield is really looking at making everyone happy and really still truly does love the Adelaide Crows and just wanted to go home to Family he should tell his manager he is happy for the Crows to match the contract and then negotiate on trade.
None of this do the right thing Adelaide bull shit and accept the free agency value due to the scenario of Buddy Franklin and a few others.

FFS Buddy was offered a 10 year contract on 9 million a deal no one else would have ever matched that.
Patty will be on only 800 thousand for 5 years something Crows would have definitely looked at paying him if not more.

I agree but there have been times when AFL could do nothing about it because it was within the rules and went on to "tighten" the rule for the following season. Resting players is the latest one that will get changed. Remember the Veale deal where Bulldogs traded pick 6 or some such to Hawks for Veale who was on the verge of delisting at Hawks so that Hawthorn would let Jade Rawlings into the draft and not trade him to Kangaroos where he wanted to go to play with his brother? AFL brought it the rule to prevent that but I am sure that the clubs would be looking at the way to exploit the rules without breaking them.

The AFL cannot punish you if you are playing within the rules. They might not be thrilled that you exploited them but they cannot punish you for exploiting the rules. They can only punish you for breaking them.

I think draft tampering is pretty broad, we were deemed to have draft tampered by telling Tippett he could be traded for a second rounder, and that wasn't even in our favour as a club.

Look, I know everyone wants the best deal for the club but I can't see the AFL setting a precedent that clubs can get a compensation pick for free with some other prearranged lopsided trade outside of the compensation pick, essentially making the club he's going to circumnavigate the system and pay less for a player, and the club he's leaving receive more than the compensation pick. It would be a crazy precedent to set when they can slap draft tampering on just about anything.

It's not in the AFL's favour and the perception that the AFL are scared little boys, nervous about how this deal works out because the big bad AFLPA might get grumpy is ridiculous.

Can I just say this. Motlop, cockatoo, Gregson, these guys are untouchable, all under contract and are happy where they are. Now Adelaide are well within their rights to try and get the best possible deal for themselves, unfortunately for you guys whatever it is will be not great value considering you'll be losing Dangerfield.

Bernie Vince had a contract, too. Contracts in the AFL aren't worth the paper they're written on. If a club needs to move a contracted player to get a deal done, then they'll do it. Doesn't mean the player or club are happy about it, but it happens.

The only reason that Hawthorn took the compo for Franklin was because they weren't prepared to match the ridiculous deal that Sydney offered. Hawthorn had implied that they were potentially going to match any realistic offer for Franklin and Sydney simply priced Hawthorn out of the market so they couldn't match.

That's essentially how RFA works, you either take the hit through your cap or take the hit at the trade table for a restricted free agent.

Geelong are attempting to circumvent the RFA system by wanting us to give them free access to sign a RFA on a contract that is well below his market value and have to pay nothing in return. They either offer a Danger a deal that we won't match or they accept that they will have to trade in order to get Danger to Geelong on a ridiculously lowballed deal.

I bet if Selwood was wanting to join Hawthorn as a RFA for 600k a year, Geelong would be doing the exact same thing that we're going to do and all their supporters would be urging the club to do it.

In isolation that Tippett for a 2nd rounder seems so innocent - but actually you need to look at as "If you stay with us, we will agree to trade you wherever you want for a minimum 2nd round pick next time around".

It was an inducement to keep him on our list.
