Paywalled but essentially asked for caravans and expected them to be loaned for free. Everythings just a thought bubble for Dan.

You can't make this s*** up.

But of course... The cost blow-out and issues only came to light in the few weeks between committing to the games (and costings) in a public forum, and pulling the pin...

Consultants had just days to cost four sports the Andrews government added to the now-cancelled Commonwealth Games lineup at the eleventh hour, as part of a business case that fatally underestimated the investment needed from the state.

Three other sports still had no proposed venues when DHW Ludus assessed facilities for lead consultants Ernst & Young on behalf of the Victorian government in January 2022, hundreds of pages of documents published late on Friday show.

You mean the weren’t given enough time to pad out the chargeback via hourly rate?

Birmingham council UK. Last commonwealth games. Is bankrupt.

Comm games not the main cause though
"The situation is nothing to do with hosting the Games and is linked to a £760 million ($955 million/€890 million) bill to settle equal pay claims, but is nevertheless an embarrassment to the leadership of England’s second biggest city after Birmingham 2022 was so widely praised."

So Deputy Premier Marshall has rejected the new wage deal because they want an extra $117 million in bonuses.

Now, the $117 million is from savings the UFU run FRV have made, which means it has only lost $300 million over the last 2 years, but if they then spend the savings it’s not really savings and instead will take FRVs losses to over $400 million in a 2 year period.

This is what happens when the union gets control of a government department, it runs with no budget and a blank cheque book and we wonder why the government keeps racking up the debt.

Fireys’ wage war burns on as union demands bonuses 1693995420290.png

I'll be watching for the response to this closely.

When asked in a presser, Dan commented that the one year timeline was a bit short.

At a guess he's trying to kick the can down the road and keep the whole thing as quiet as possible until after the referendum and I wouldn't think we'll be hearing any more about it until after that.

The Birmingham financial crisis is a red herring as far as Victoria is concerned. The issue here is one of a broken promise all indications are the government knew they couldn't keep at the time they were making the promise.

I was at pains to say it wasn’t direct. Lots of UK councils in financial trouble. No need to build toilets the whole place will be a toilet

why raise it then in this thread?

Victorian Teachers currently protesting outside parliament requesting the government do more to address teacher shortages.

Geez Dan, who could possibly have predicted a teacher shortage when the government agreed to a new EBA with the Teachers Union which reduced the number of face to face hours for teachers? It's absolutely shocking to think that taking teachers out of classrooms would necessitate more teachers!

Everybody could see this coming, yet here we are.

IMO the Teachers Union have not represented teachers in the classroom at all well. There are a number of systemic issues that they appear to not be that interested in resolving.

Absolutely! That was reflected in the low "Yes" vote to the new EBA (ultimately it passed). Absolutely shambolic situation where a new agreement is entered into and neither the teachers or the schools are happy. For all the Union's chest thumping about it, the net result will be worse outcomes for students.

Dan has announced that teaching degrees will be free in Victoria, with conditions attached.

I think that's a good move, but what is he doing to keep teachers in the state?

The VIC pay scales are too low given the high cost of living compared to SA and QLD.

I wonder if there is an age limit? I wouldn't mind the free graduate degree. I've taught masters classes at Canberra University without a degree but it was a very specialised set of subjects.

Who wouldn’t want to be a teacher in Vic when you’re locked in to 1% pay rises every six months despite a high inflation environment?

The teaching union is an absolute joke of an organisation.
