Its not crazy to think that, but sometimes these guys get wedded into their opinions and can't change. No different than Kane Cornes and his rant on Tex.

For me it wasn't the picking one or the other, just the dismissive way he treated Thilly in the discussion. It goes back to me thinking every time that "if they played for a Victorian club..." then the adulation would be more. It is probably an unconcious bias on their part but as it is a national competition they'd probably need to be more balanced.

It was interesting on the other side of that was Matthews was far more balanced (living interstate) in the view between the two.

I agree, people have overlooked Thilthorpe due to him not being in a Victorian team. That will always be the case.
But, I'm happy for all the attention to be on Darcy and not on Thilthorpe.

This one is really funny.
Paul Haselberry saying a late first rounder for Dan Curtin and Rowie saying he would trade Dan for pick 6.
Talk about clueless.
Someone needs to ring AA and put Rowie on the spot about this call.

Ridiculous statement by Rowe

Ridiculous.

Curtin is contracted until 2029, which means even if he does leave, we will get 4 years out of him while we should be in the window.

The only way I’d even consider a trade offer for Curtin is if it meant we got Dyson Sharp, and even then I don’t think I’d do it.

You also have to consider the impact you have on the whole squad with a trade like this. What message does it send to your playing group, that you’ve sold this idea to Dan of what he can do and how important he is for the club and convinced him to stay for 3 more years, only to turn around a few months later and ship him off because you think something better came along?

In fairness to Rowey, that was from 2 months ago

Sure, it was still extremely dumb at the time but not at the world record breaking dumbness level such an opinion would be now

I reckon Curtin will be better than Dyson Sharp

Important to note that Rowie clip was from May, before Curtin's new contract and before his form upswing.

But as good as Sharp has been, he doesn't appear the multi-dimensional unicorn that Curtin could become, so I wouldn't do that trade. Back ourselves in to keep DC and get Sharp through other means, whether that's now or later.

We shouldn't be trading out gun players to get gun players... unless they really want out.

Best we use picks say if the likes of NWM chose us.

In fairness, why is anyone even bothering to listen to Rowie fullstop...

Not condoning gambling but just want to brag that I got DC at 26//1 for the rising star and even though there’s a long way to go he’s doing no harm to his chances.

Another couple of 25 disposal games and display the enormous talent that he is and I will be very happy.

Still, you don't go trading out a first round pick until you've given them a chance to be all they can be. Only times you see it happen for value the same as the pick you used in the first place is when they want to go home. E.g. JHF. Otherwise you're kind of nuts as a club to not back the player.

And now, the fruit is borne! We'd be asking for a shitton to even entertain the conversation.

Well, Kingy has him winning it, for what that's worth.

He's taken the third most bounces of any player in the side this year (admittedly only 6)
NWM has taken more bounces this season than our whole club combined

The argument about Darcy vs TT is irrelevant I reckon. TT was the perfect choice for us being an SA lad and Crow's supporter growing up meaning we've got him for life. That's exciting.

Yep. The Bulldogs got a third generation Darcy in their club who looks legit and should stay there for his entire career, and we got a SA lad who was a Crows tragic, and should play his career with us without demanding a 2million a year salery that he could get on the open market.

The bigger lol was Haselberry thinking a late first would get it done for a pick 8 who had only improved his value when he made that comment.

Taking lots of bounces isn’t always a good thing. The ball moves quicker when you kick it than when you run with it.
True. But it also stretches structures

As does picking out targets and moving the ball quickly by foot.

Being able to run and carry the footy is a great weapon, but it can be overused a lot of the time. NWM is a great player, but I think his impact on the game is sometimes overrated, largely because the Saints don’t use him as well as they could.

On the most simple level I could put it, if you’re a forward in a 1-on-1 and the ball is 75-80m away. All you want is enough time to create some separation, and then you want the ball kicked out in front of you. A player running 5-10m is generally the perfect amount of time for you to do that. If they take a bounce and run an extra 10 metres, all of a sudden the defender has a chance to recover, the forward has to put in a hard lead, and then needs a perfect kick to avoid the spoil from behind.

I sometimes think NWM is so skilled, that he’s looking for the perfect kick, instead of releasing the ball quickly and to his teammates advantage, which is generally a better option.

I don't disagree, but there's more reliance on half-backs in St Kilda's current scheme because they don't have another efficient way of moving the ball. With our midfield and contested marking power, that's less likely to be the case here. I've been fairly open about NWM (or someone like him) being our biggest current list need. We struggle to move the ball against the best defensive sides - it's our clearest flaw. Hinge and Milera have both been fine this season, but they're upgradeable.
