I've got $100 on Ashcroft so if he wins, I win close to my payout anyway.
I just have the $10 on Curtin at $21. I’m holding off a bet on Ashcroft as I figure if Curtin comes in more, Ashcroft will drift out in the betting. I think the winner comes from those 2.

I wonder if they'll continue to let him be the best and most damaging wing in the competition. Or try to have him graduate into "kind of OK" midfielder like Rankine.

I mean, Rankine was averaging 25+ disposals and 2-3 goals last year in the midfield when King declare he will be a top 3 player in the competition in a few years. A bit down this year with 20 disposals and 1 goal.

Like any prospect, you try to see if they'll excel at inside midfield and settle for a lesser position if they can't do it well. Though if you can't excel at inside midfield from wing, it's not likely you're going to be a gun wing for long either.

Being titled as the most damaging wing in the competition in a era that does not care for wings at all is damned with faint praise. The wings who were worth their salt transitioned to being star inside mids.

Like Norm Smith medalist Isaac Smith?

You don’t think Curtins role has been crucial to our recent form?

If wings all performed like Curtin is, then people would care more about wings.

I think it's more likely that Curtin stays as a wing, at least for the first half of his career. And if we have any kind of success, I think that we will see a spate of clubs trying to copy the model and prioritising tall, fit wings with clean disposal.

Agree. 365 is not life changing money.

1k is

also not life changing money, but its almost 3 times more.
Well mine is $35 @80/1, $2835 return. They are currently offering $1015.

I’m in panic stations, I put $250 on Ashcroft the other day @$3.00, just in case.

Gamble responsibly

There have been few wingers like Dan over the years. Mostly through the years they were almost rover size. The earliest tall winger I can recall was Des Meagher from Hawthorn (yes, I’m THAT old) and the earliest tall winger I can recall in the SANFL was Barry Stringer at the Roosters

I think Curtin will have some inside mid time in the next couple of years and that’s probably where he will end up. You’d want him around the ball as much as possible given how’s he’s developing.

Curtin's played inside mid, forward, back and been somewhere between incompetent and mediocre in all of them. Until he moved to the wing and suddenly became one of the best players in the competition.

For some reason, the one that comes to mind for me is Matthew Richardson towards the end of his career.

You’re obviously a lot younger than me…
