Traditionally in the highlands they are pronounced mcpinski and mcgoey, despite the spellingI don't think McLipinski or McDe Goey work terribly well.

De Goey is a Dutch name & the correct pronunciation apparently sounds like clearing your throat before spitting it out.Traditionally in the highlands they are pronounced mcpinski and mcgoey, despite the spelling

I think the De part serves much the same purpose as Mc, more or less meaning "son of".

A balanced reply HR we simply aren't in the financial position to look at young A raters this year.Welcome Daniel. Not the player I wanted, but hopefully the player we require.
Feels like we got ourselves another mihocek tbh Good be a good thing

Yeah happy days - I saw Macca play often enough - takes pressure off the mids and the backs.I get it. I just dream of a Travis Cloke like body in our forward line.
Does that force Cameron or Cox out?23 possessions, 10 hitouts, 6 marks, 5 tackles and a goal in the elimination final against Richmond is an impressive recent performance that suggests he is just hitting his prime. Lions have given him 150 games to develop and now we get the finished product.
He kicked at least two goals in 9 games this season.
He and Kreuger as our keys with Mihocek as a third tall and then Johnson as a mobile fourth is going to create matchup headaches for oppo teams

I get what you are saying Q, but gee I’m sick of the structure debate.I think that game shows McStay can stand up in big games, he'll compete well as a ball winning 2nd ruck (poor in hitouts though) and works as a break glass 3rd string ruck.
I don't think it says much about what he offers as a forward though because that's not the role he was playing.
I'm hoping he can provide structure, compete in the air, and stay on the park. I hope our quick play offers him more offensive opportunities and he can hit or improve on his best goal scoring form, but I'm honestly skeptical about that.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a forward who just kicks goals?
Elliott in there somewhere? I'm not sure there is enough arial ball coming into our forward line to keep 5 marking-first players fed.23 possessions, 10 hitouts, 6 marks, 5 tackles and a goal in the elimination final against Richmond is an impressive recent performance that suggests he is just hitting his prime. Poor old Travis was maligned from day one, but what would you give for a contested marking beast like him next year.I get it. I just dream of a Travis Cloke like body in our forward line.

McStay should get the opposition's best defender. Leaving our other forwards to more opportunity.Agreed. If Johnson is in the AFL team then I think Elliott's role changes. Higher up the field, getting more possessions and drifting inside 50 to kick goals. Also playing as a mid, which we know he can do.
I feel like we have about nine forwards - Mihocek, McStay, Kreuger, Johnson, Elliott, Ginnivan, McCreery, Hill, Cameron/Cox (whichever isn't playing 1st ruck) and we can assemble seven of them to take advantage of the weaknesses we perceive our opposition to have. They each have different strings to their bows. It's not a bad position to be in with what is supposedly our weakest line

Master-stroke from our Coaches.
McStay will also kick goals as a CHF and a main focal point..
Ginnivan, Hill , Elliott , Johnson, Mihocek will feast.
Our only missing puzzle was Tom Mitchell. Quality inside mid.

I think Elliott would be a good player as that second change mid, but he is an excellent player as a bullet leading forward from the goalsquare, and I think that is where he spends most of his time.
So what does your setup in the forward line look like? Are a fit Mihocek, McStay or Kreuger missing out?
HF: Sidebottom, Krueger, Mihocek
F: Elliott, McStay, Ginnivan
Hill on interchange, we play one ruck (Cox ahead), and McCreery goes to the VFL to develop as a midfielder
McStay the deep target, Kreuger and Mihocek the workhorses up the ground. Elliott the quick leading deep forward. Ginni first crack at small forward role, but Hill, McCreery both probably snapping at his heels.

No one is recruiting McStay to be a big goal kicker - although I think he'll play deeper with us and kick more than he has previously done. He's been recruited to give us a better aerial contest. Our forwards are a walk over in the air, unless the ball is kicked significantly to their advantage. He averaged less goals per game than quite a few of our 2022 forwards ( Checkers, Elliott, Ginnivan, Johnson, Henry) and was ranked 6th at the Lions…. just saying, McStay may not be that panacea.
